During the pre-show to the multiplayer reveal ceremony at the Call of Duty XP event in Los Angeles, CA., Major Nelson made an interesting announcement.
He stated that the 6,000 fans attending the event will receive a code in their limited editions of Modern Warfare 3 that they can use to digitally download the game on Xbox Live the moment it is released on November 8th. None of these editions included the actual retail discs inside for obvious reasons (the game hasn’t gone gold yet).
The question we have is whether or not this digital copy is only available to attendees of CoD XP. Will the rest of the worldwide PS3 and Xbox Call of Duty fans also be able to download the game on day one as well? Or, will the rest of us have access to it on a later date, as with other CoD games that became available to download later? Speaking of which, many of these CoD titles have had a recent price drop on Xbox Live and PSN. Also, will traditional retailers try to put a block on this since they could lose substantial business? Activision could possibly make an extra $15Â per copy if they were to sell them all digitally.
What do you think? Would you prefer to download MW3 the day it releases, or buy a hard copy?

Maybe this is just me, or maybe it is how things are currently set up, but when it comes to PC games, I prefer a digital copy about 75% of the time. Why? Because I already have an extensive collection on Steam, and owning a physical copy sometimes seems silly (at least in my eyes). Now, for consoles, I always prefer a hard copy unless the deal is just THAT great. XBL/PSN arcade games are a different story, but when it comes to full games, hard copy is the way to go (for me anyways).
Especially since there’s much more storage on a PC, it’s nice to have all your games in one place. I feel the same way about consoles. I would much prefer the hard copy. I only have a 60gb HD so It’s not like I can have an extensive game collection on there anyways.
But, In terms of MW3, it’d be nice to have the slight advantage of being able to play the game literally the minute it is released. All those poor chaps having to wait to get home from their midnight launch party to play it đŸ˜‰
Another way to get MW3 early is to join MP1st and write an article everyday and that active writer (not Veselka) MIGHT get a an early review copy. đŸ˜‰
