Splinter Cell: Blacklist Multiplayer “First Look” Incoming Next Week

Ubisoft has outed a brand new Splinter Cell Blacklist trailer, but in place of yet another display of stealthy heroics by main protagonist Sam Fisher, we’re teased by the hint of an incoming reveal of the title’s multiplayer component.

The teaser reveals an image of two agents facing off, both with the signature red and green goggles, as the screen fades to an image displaying the words “First Look” and the date “05.02.13.”

According to Ubisoft’s official Twitter account, it appears the reveal will be of an updated take on the Spies vs. Mercenaries game mode.

Be it co-operative or competitive, multiplayer has always been a part of the Splinter Cell series since the second entry, Pandora Tomorrow, where the game mode Spies vs. Mercs first appeared. 2010′s Splinter Cell: Conviction featured a rather robust and highly-praised co-op experience, but we’ve yet to see an adversarial multiplayer experience from the series as fleshed out as what you would find in, say, Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier.

Needless to say, this has us at MP1st excited to see what the multiplayer team behind Splinter Cell: Blacklist has to show us this May 02.

Any thoughts or predictions as to what we’ll see? Let us know in the comments below. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the actual teaser:

Splinter Cell: Blacklist sneaks onto the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 August 20.

    Is this coming to pc?

    • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

Silly me. Added it to the article. Yes. August 20.

      • DanDustEmOff

        Yay

      • MegaMan3k

And Wii U. Although maybe not the MP and maybe not on Aug 20.

        • WarBro

And maybe not ever. Developers announcing a WiiU version seem to have a habit of never following through and you never hear about it again. Dead platform unfortunately.

          • MegaMan3k

Other than Aliens: Colonial Marines – which, I mean, come on – when did that happen?

            • Jay Zero

they actually cancelled the wii u version of aliens colonial marines because of poor reception to the 360, ps3 and pc versions

            • MegaMan3k

That would be what the “which, I mean, come on” was referring to haha.

Sorry. What is a Wii U?

          ;)

I loved the multiplayer in Double Agent, I hope it’s just like that but a little smoother.

Double agent is a joke, kid. REAL Splinter Cell players quit playing that a month after it came out and went back to Chaos Theory. A game that takes skill and at least takes you a month of playing to be good. Double Agent was made for kids with one equipment. What a joke. The best Splinter Cell laugh at all you Double Agent dick riders.

I’m concerned about how the spy vs. merc gameplay will pan out. For years, “old school” fans (including me) have been asking for Chaos Theory-like spy vs. merc back. Not only did we not get it, Ubisoft stripped it completely in Conviction (lost a sale on that one Ubi!). Then, last summer, we hear something like “spy vs merc like Pandora is coming back.” Then, up until present day, we keep hearing how the devs want there to be one fluid game where you can bounce from the single player to coop to multiplayer and still feel like you are in the same game. The devs in the past indicated that they didn’t want to have two distinct games (which is what they did, like it or not)…single player and multiplayer. I have a sad feeling that the devs are really going to “f” this up because they want one cohesive game. Who cares about having one fluid game??!! The multiplayer fans (old school) want the Chaos Theory spies vs merc back in ALL it’s glory!!! We don’t want to have a stripped down spy vs. merc mode just because there were features that didn’t “melt” in with the single player!! When are they going to learn!!! Or, maybe they have. We’ll see what happens with the preview footage. The spy vs. merc gameplay will determine whether I buy this game or whether I throw this one in my mental garbage can like Conviction.

Double Agent and Conviction was made for little kids. Chaos Theory was a truly in depth type of chess game where you have to be smart how you play. Kids use to get destroyed and then they would complain, say it sucks then jump on Halo 2. it was hard to get games because so many noobs played “Deathmatch” instead of story. Splinter Cell is NOT for kids ubisoft, otherwise if it is easy at first I’ll know the game is a piece of shit like the last two games. I played Pandora Tomorrow the day it came out until chaos theory came out and then I played that until they shut down the servers.
