DICE Shares Battlefield 4 Improvements Based On Beta Feedback

Insisting that the Battlefield 4 beta that took place during the first half of this month on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 was an actual “beta” and not just a glorified “demo”, developers DICE have shared their learnings from the experience and outlined a few of the changes they will be implementing before the game’s release later this month.

Fortunately, there are points here to make both PC and console users quite happy, as DICE will be improving PC frame rates by reducing CPU usage as well as giving console players a few more controller options to play with than the beta allowed. There are, of course, a number of balancing fixes outlined in the notes below as well.

Check out the changelog via the official Battlefield Blog:

Low frame rate/stuttering

PC players may have experienced trouble in the Beta getting the game running at a good frame rate. Rest assured that we’re using the information we received to optimize the performance for the launch of the game. We also released three game client updates and a number of game server updates during the Beta to address some of these issues and to gather more information to ensure a smoother launch.

Stuck on loading screen

We have identified some of the reasons why players, mainly on PC, were getting stuck on the loading screen and are currently working around the clock to decrease the rate at which this occurs. The latest PC patch for the Beta helped for some players and we are confident we will be able to minimize this issue for launch.

High CPU usage during the Beta

CPU usage could sometimes skyrocket for dual, quad and six-core processors. We identified some of the reasons and released three patches with fixes that went live during the Beta, to address the problems. This was a true Beta, and as such all the crash reports that were generated during this period will actually help us make a better game.

Controller layouts (X360/PS3)

We’ve increased the available controller options in Battlefield 4, including the new controller layout and multiple alternatives that we hope will make you feel right at home. If you’re more comfortable with the controls from Battlefield 3, we’ve got you covered. Just by bringing up the options menu, you can choose the “Legacy” layout, which is similar to that in Battlefield 3.

Empty server listings (X360/PS3)

While in the Server Browser you may have seen lists of empty servers. By changing the filter options, you’ll be able to find populated servers that you can join. You can also use the “Quick Match” function to quickly get into the action.

The elevator catapult (All platforms)

Although an interesting concept, elevators were never designed to act as a catapult or teleporter. The bug where the elevator button would catapult you up into the air is fixed for the final game. But we did enjoy all the crazy videos you’ve posted. Thanks!

Gameplay balancing

We are still balancing gameplay, and in true DICE fashion will continue to do so well after the release of Battlefield 4. Below are just some of the gameplay changes based on your feedback that we’re making in time for the launch of the game.

Infantry Changes
  • Fixed how the player only receives a single local damage sound effect if he or she was the victim of a quick, clean kill.  The sound and camera impact effect had too long a cool down between hits. This should improve the responsiveness of being killed and taking damage.
  • Reduced the fire rate of the AK12 in burst from 1000rpm to 750rpm. The rate of fire was too high when combined with the low recoil of the weapon, making it more powerful than intended in burst mode.
  • Tweaked the compensator and muzzle brake so they’re properly less accurate in sustained automatic fire.
  • Reduced and rebalanced full auto accuracy based on rate of fire for all automatic weapons to balance low ROF weapons. Low ROF weapons were remaining accurate long enough to get easy kills outside of their intended optimal range.
  • Increased the default throw distance of the portable ammo and med packs. This makes it easier to throw these packs to teammates.
  • Portable ammo packs now reload 2 magazines of bullets instantly and up a total of 4 magazines per pack over time. The player must stay on top of the ammo pack in order to benefit from all of the ammo reloading. Grenades, RPG’s, and other explosive launchers do not benefit from the instant reload function of the Ammo Pack.
  • Increased the muzzle flash of the 25mm and 40mm launchers to make their threat position more visible.
  • Fixed an issue where the knife stab didn’t align with the kill event.
  • The revive time has been increased from 7s to 10s.
Vehicle Changes
  • Fixed some descriptions of weapons for vehicles that incorrectly described the function of the weapon.
  • Increased the damage of the Stinger and IGLA to 3 hits to kill attack choppers (was 25%, now 35%).
  • Increased the speed of all TOW guided missiles to 75m/s from 50m/s so they can catch-up to fast vehicles like the Quad bike.
  • Increased the sustained fire accuracy of the Coaxial LMG on armored vehicles because it was underpowered.
  • Reduced the damage the 40mm and 25mm infantry weapons do to armored vehicles to highlight their anti-infantry role.
  • Reduced the damage main gun on the IFVs against other armor to highlight their primarily anti-infantry role.
  • Fixed an issue where the tank main gun did not correctly hit the center of the crosshair at all times.
  • Multiple options are now available for controlling how your vehicles steer with a joystick on all platforms, as well as improved the responsiveness of steering while accelerating.
Locking Weapon Changes
  • RPG7 and SMAW can no longer lock on to Laser Designated Targets. It was inauthentic and not balanced.
  • Fixed some projectiles not warning vehicles when they were fired on a Laser Designated target. Reduced the lock on distance for RPGs, SMAW, and MBT LAW missiles to 350m from 500m. This gives the IGLA the clear long range AA role for soldiers, and keeps the team play element of Laser Designation.
  • All Laser Designated missiles now do a maximum of 90% damage to Attack and Scout helicopters (down from 100%). This was done to give helicopters a chance to use their Fire Extinguisher countermeasure even against Laser Designated weapons.
General Changes
  • The kill string in the score log now appears sooner, making the UI more responsive to a kill event.
  • The aim assist on X360/PS3 has been tweaked to be more consistent at all ranges. The assist was over powerful at close range, and not powerful enough at medium range. Players should now find that close combat requires much more player input and the snap to a target is far less forgiving. At medium range the player should experience a bit more assistance tracking targets, but generally still reduced aim assist effectiveness.
PC Specific Changes
  • Fixed a string in On Foot PC key bindings that should have read “CROUCH (TOGGLE) / PRONE (HOLD)”.
  • Removed an unused “Underslung” key binding on PC, the “Select Gadget 1″ key binding now controls both of these actions as expected.

  • TheDerpPolice

DICE dev also confirmed RPG lockon was removed for final game. Phew. Such a scrub mechanic.

    • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

Yes. If we’re lucky, some one like Alan Kertz might do up a giant balance changelog like he did preceding some of the bigger Battlefield 3 patches.

    • http://www.facebook.com/datkidfromawendaw Clay Johnson

thank goodness! That thing was like the RPG from BC2 with no need for a tracer dart

    • XFistsClenchedX

So they removed the one thing that could take out a helicopter? I can see that they’re looking to make the air support overpowered again.

      • oofy

I wouldn’t say ‘the one thing’, but it was really overpowered. OHK. I’m sure if choppers are OP in the final game, they’ll make changes once again.

        • XFistsClenchedX

It could have been toned down a bit, but they made the stingers so weak that only a clueless heli pilot would be killed by them so something had to be capable of taking out choppers aside from the weapon you can pick up at the skyscraper.

          • oofy

I agree. When I unlocked the Stinger, I was surprised I hit a chopper with only the pilot in it 4 times before it went down. Now that’s a bit much. If the pilot sees me, there is NO way I’m taking him down before he downs me.

            • XFistsClenchedX

The amount of hits it takes probably makes sense on a big map where the sky is open and everyone has a clear shot at air support, but on a map where there is a lot of cover for the helicopter, it’s too much.

            • oofy

Brings back bad memories of Sharqi Peninsula vs a Chopper pilot/gunner before they took away the flares/ecm of the gunner.

If anything was a lesson in futility, that was it.

            • XFistsClenchedX

There was that, but I also think that jets are overpowered in BF3 right now. They can decimate people/vehicles on the ground and unless you have an equally good pilot on your team, which often times doesn’t happen, then there is nothing you can do to defend yourself.

            • CoDforever

Why didnt you say this during BF3′s fucking lifecycle !????? Are all BF fans that fucking sensitive to a fucking piece of entertainment ??

            • Katana67

How? Jets, are in my mind, vastly underpowered. All a tank needs is Vehicle Smoke and AGMs are entirely ineffective, and everyone uses smoke (lord knows they will keep on using it in BF4 with four slots). The main cannon requires a ton of damage to disable a tank, and there’s no magnification optic to take out infantry (I’m really good at this regardless, but it’s not easy).

Again, the implication of needing a good pilot on your team to take their jets out is that the enemy has a good pilot in the first place. Something that shouldn’t be “balanced” by shutting down jets. So because the pilots aren’t always good on your team, jets are overpowered… Doesn’t make much sense.

There are plenty of ways to take out Jets, especially when they disable at such a high damage percentage. You can’t/don’t repair them most of the time either, whereas with tanks you can repair all day.

All you need is one guy with a Stinger, and the effectiveness of a jet is halved. Not to mention dedicated AA vehicles or AA turrets.

            • XFistsClenchedX

What a bunch of nonsense. Any good pilot is going to do strafing runs with the machineguns. A few strafing runs by a jet and the tank is done, which is easier for a good pilot to do than you’re making it out to be.

Actually, it does make sense. A good jet pilot in BF3 is virtually impossible to kill. There are not plenty of ways to kill a jet pilot. They will kill you in vehicles or while running around on foot. If you get into a helicopter, they will kill you in that too.

Stingers are pretty much worthless against a good jet pilot. Any stinger kill is basically pure luck and fairly rare against a good jet pilot. In most Battlefield games, maps with planes/jets have AA stations littered in various places on the map. This is what Battlefield 4 (and 3) needs so that ground forces can defend themselves against jets and at the same time, it allows jets to fight each other without any problems. The regular BF3 maps don’t have AA vehicles and the AA turrets are worthless because they’re only useful if a jet is spawn killing.

            • Katana67

I don’t know what game you’re playing, but BF3 jet main cannons don’t really have any affect on tanks (largely because it’s very difficult to track tanks with the main cannon sans optic, or on console, some things just don’t render properly until you’re close). Most of this is also because engineers can just repair and drive off, but the cannons themselves (save for the A-10/Frogfoot) are useless against tanks. It takes a full salvo of 25mm as well as an AGM to get a disable on a tank, much less kill one.

It doesn’t make sense from a logical point of view though. All of those things you listed, are dictated by that player being good or not. It’s not the fault of the jet being overwhelming, but that players use of the jet. And don’t be disingenuous, there are tons of ways to kill a jet, the most important one being another jet. If jets are so overpowered then why do I rarely see people do well in them? This is all anecdotal of course, but as is your experience as well.

By that logic, a tank is overpowered because someone is really good at killing folks in a tank. Therefore, that tank is overpowered because nobody else on your team can match it. That’s what you’re saying with regards to jets.

Likewise, killing a jet isn’t always the goal. Clearing the airspace of jets, is a secondary objective to that and is where Stingers can be a debilitating inhibitor to jets. If the average infantryman could bring down a jet as easily as a jet could get a kill, then jets wouldn’t be an asset or fun to fly.

You’re placing a premium on “kills”, rather than disabling the pilot to have free reign of the skies, and thus the ability to kill you and your teammates efficiently. I rarely get killed by Stingers, but they cause me to go off-target to dodge to an overwhelming degree (which is why I think they’re overpowered in BF3, mainly toward helicopters though which have far longer loiter times).

I absolutely agree about having AA stations like in BF2, those were great! However, I have often expressed the desire to see those AA stations REPLACE Stingers entirely. They add significance to taking objectives, and are a finite yet effective asset to be controlled. Rather than the endless supply of Stingers that one receives.

            • oofy

I’ve played in plenty of matches (I’ve logged over 500 hours) where a good jet pilot just wrecked our team. This is really apparent when playing Rush. Our tanks could not make any headway on the objective because the pilot was VERY good at strafing our armor with his guns and rockets.

While it’s true that any vehicle can seem overpowered if it’s in capable hands and the other team is incapable of taking it out, I wouldn’t be dismissive of what gripes other people bring to the table.

            • Katana67

Like I said, the A-10 and Frogfoot (meaning the RUSH jets) are very effective at killing tanks. As they should be. The defense gets a smaller ground presence, mostly resulting in fewer tanks. That and there’s only one of each. I personally, think the defense should get no aircraft (in lieu of more tanks) and the attackers should get aircraft. Rush used to be an asymmetric battle, now both sides get CAS aircraft which just end up dogfighting each other 90% of the time anyhow.

And I’m not dismissing anything, I’m merely providing a counter-argument.

            • oofy

And those are traits of a good and healthy debate.

            • XFistsClenchedX

The problem is that there is virtually no defense for ground units from a good jet pilot. They’re basically unstoppable unless you get a lucky hit with the tank. The jets are simply way too effective. Certainly more effective than in any other Battlefield game.

            • Katana67

Again, Stingers are the main defense. Mobile AA vehicles. 50 BMG turrets on tanks. Tank shells. Javelins. All available to the ground units, not to mention the DEFENSIVE advantages of ground targets (i.e. being able to hide and repair easily). A tank is disabled and it’s fixed in place, hop out, repair, and you’re good. A jet is disabled and you -have- to bail or you die. There’s no coming back (most of the time), that jet is done. I personally think that jets should have an eject timer, but that’s neither here nor there.

Either way, ground units shouldn’t be able to take out jets easily though, jets wouldn’t be an asset if they were put on relatively equal footing with ground targets.

That and it’s very difficult to be good at CAS in BF3, hence why I rarely see people do well in jets.

That, and your argument is ignorant of the myriad of ways the jet can be killed from the air. Attack helicopters are a huge threat, likewise with other jets. Deeming something as “overpowered” implies that it is insurmountable across the board, you can’t then just pick and choose “well it’s overpowered against ground targets because they have no means of fighting back”, when there are OTHER ways of fighting back.

Even in your own argument, you’re caveating the “overpowered” nature of jets by saying that it’s derived “from a good jet pilot”. This isn’t the fault of the jet. Remove the “good jet pilot” from your argument and it doesn’t hold water. Stick a good player in any vehicle and it can be considered “overpowered”.

            • TI_21

You don’t use AGMs with a jet, you just don’t.
Rocket Pods are much more reliable, disabling tanks in a single salve.
Also, the cannon is highly effective when attacking the rear of a tank, causing up to 90 dmg per salve. That’s for the CQ jets.

            • Katana67

I use AGMs for the camera, not the AGM itself. Rocket Pods require you to go low, and thus you are easily able to be plucked out of the sky by tanks.

Plus, on console, infantry do not render without the camera. So if I didn’t use the AGM, my infantry kills would be halved.

Right, and so because the main cannon is effective in VERY specific circumstances (i.e. a 100% accuracy salvo, hit on the back of a tank, sans reactive armor, with nobody repairing, and the tank itself is out in the open) it cannot be considered “overpowered”.

      • Katana67

One Hit, infinitely rearming, long-range, insta-lock, rapid reload, ECM/Flare ignoring Stingers don’t count? I’m sure that if they’ve changed since BF3, they’ll be brought back up to speed

I remember the days where aircraft were purposefully made powerful, because you know… they’re aircraft. They were designed to provide CAS to teammates and not to dogfight one another (helicopters included). They were designed to be sparsely respawning assets to be used or the benefit of a team, not something to be decried as “overpowered” like everything else and promptly nerfed. After all, there’s only a few aircraft on the map, why should they not be a cut above everything else?

        • zakrocz

And I remember the days when tanks were powerful, actually it wasn’t that long ago, we had real tanks in BC2 but they got nerfed to hell in BF3. So I see no reason why jets and choppers should escape the nerfs.

          • Katana67

Tanks also received a third seat, the ability to have GUIDED SHELLS, the ability to lock-on to aircraft of all things, as well as the ability to use MULTIPLE specializations. It’s virtually impossible to counter Vehicle Smoke (because it recharges faster than a Javelin/AGM reloads) now if you’ve got a lock-on AT weapon.

How did tanks get “nerfed”? As far as I can tell, they’re more capable now than ever. Not taking into account the fact that there’s 3+ tanks per side on the map.

      • WarBroh

“So they removed the one thing that could take out a helicopter”

LOL, did you know your own team also has a helicopter?

        • XFistsClenchedX

Yeah, but everyone knows that you can’t count on the guy in your teams chopper being any good and even if they were, you still need to be able to perform anti-air because they could get shot down. Many maps won’t have mobile AA, guided shells only work on air vehicles if they’re designated with a laser painter and that almost never happens in Battlefield anymore. TV missiles aren’t anti-air. You are making a ton of assumptions. You have to assume that your team won’t work as a team because 90% of the team, that’s what happens in Battlefield these days. By the way, you sound just like the guys who complained about Battlefield 3 after it was released, which led to a long line of DICE patches that ruined the game.

          • xrefusedx

            My T.V, Missile is anti-everything!

          • Katana67

The huge assumption you’re making, is that DICE should tailor their game design based on the fact that most people suck at the game. You can’t design games this way.

            • TI_21

You can, nowadays it’s called Call of Duty. ;p

    • Don Fourth Horseman

That was ridiculous as well. A straight shot RPG that locks on?? Fugz no!

    • leeroy_newman

Yay, no more teamworks like we had in bf2.

    • Katana67

Yes, this is good. No idea why it was even considered.

  • One point

they need to nerf aim assist on consoles,my screen was swaying side to side as if i had aim hack

    • NinoBr0wn

      Turn it off.

      • Shorty5782

Em if you turned off aim assist in the beta you would be at an serious disadvantage! But hopefully with this tweak it will be no more. Then I will turn it off.

      • Don Fourth Horseman

Its always bothered me that they throw in aim assist for FPShooters, I quite frankly think its a gimic and a lack of skill and compensation. The automatic sway/follow is so nasty to look at. I avoid Shooters that have an automatic implementation of Aim assist, unless I have the option of turning it off, which was the very first thing I did before I even jumped into the Beta

        • XFistsClenchedX

Yeah. I don’t think shooters should have aim assist. Games need to allow the good players to be good and the bad players to be bad. They hand hold way too much.

          • Jake Jeckle

Well considering there is way more bad players then good players this would never work.

    • Shorty5782

Em did you not read this article all the way through? ;-)

      • One point

they didnt have the added notes when i commented

  • Justin Mckay

I would kinda like to see suppression brought back for all guns i liked it in bf3 i personally feel like it brought an added sense of realism.

    • http://www.facebook.com/datkidfromawendaw Clay Johnson

The penalty could have remained but the blurry screen had to go, I hated everytime I’m in a firefight even indirectly my screen blurs like he took off his coke bottle glasses or something

    • born2expire

Less random garbage in FPS games please. The blurring of the screen fine, but not the random bullet deviation.

    • oofy

      Random deviation. I…HATED…THAT.

      • roland0811

Nothing like someone shooting in your general direction making you go blind and your rounds go everywhere BUT where your barrel’s aimed.

        • oofy

Yes. I can handle the blurred screen, but if I am still able to line up my shot, but the bullet goes off in a random direction other than where I’m aiming it, that’s plain infuriating.

    • Katana67

I think suppression will be better in BF4. It helped ruin the CQC in BF3, and exacerbated the massive problems with “random spread”.

It’s also disheartening to see that snipers can still be getting shot in the face and still are able to accurately snipe you. I will never understand the logic behind this in games.

  • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

UPDATE: Official Blog started working (was down for me previous to writing this post), so the FULL change log is now up, including specific balance tweaks.

  • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

“Fixed how the player only receives a single local damage sound effect if he or she was the victim of a quick, clean kill. The sound and camera impact effect had too long a cool down between hits. This should improve the responsiveness of being killed and taking damage.”

Knew it! I’m 100% positive this is what led to the alleged “insta-deaths”. Weren’t really insta-deaths, just bad hit notification.

    • Soldier

Yes, this is correct. Figured this out while playing the beta and evidently it was confirmed by DICE themselves.

    • XFistsClenchedX

I assumed the insta-deaths were caused by overly aggressive auto-aim that made headshots too easy with most weapons.

    • oofy

Hope they fixed the bug where there was no “sight” in the SCAR-H iron sights. A few times it would just a big solid chunk of metal.

      • XFistsClenchedX

I’m sure they know about that one. That one seemed like a bug that just hadn’t been cleaned up yet.

    • acealchemist

I don’t see why so many people complained about damage, bullets do 17.50 damage after 75m and 25 damage under 25m. It took more than 6 bullets to the chest or 2 too the head for a kill. I hope to see Hardcore improved.

  • NinoBr0wn

LOL the elevator was catapulting people?

    • kurt99

      ehehe yep :P

  • Orcun Acik

BF4 will fall big. Most players are from current-gen consoles and we still can’t get even 25fps. Frostbyte sucks.

    • asfhf

      I have a sure-fire solution for you!

Buy it for Next-Gen consoles (Whenever possible/if you even want it) or have a PC ready, because BF4 was never meant to run at full potential on Current-Gen technology.

      • Orcun Acik

I have some brain for you!
BF3 was also never meant to run on current-gen consoles that’s why DICE kept saying BF3 is best perfoming on expensive powerful PC’s. But it only sold about 2.5 million copies for PC while PS3 and X360 total sales was nearly 15 million and both consoles total hardware sales is nearly 150 million. Now DICE betrays not just current-gen users but also themselves. Because next-gen consoles will not sell well at first year. Clear?
I am a BF3 premium member but I am not going to buy BF4 for current-gen and for next-gen because they don’t deserve it. It is worse than its predecessor.
I am going to buy CoD Ghosts which runs 60fps on current-gen with more features.

        • XFistsClenchedX

COD Ghosts will have terrible gameplay. Enjoy that.

          • CoDforever

no. He’s not ready to upgrade yet and the better choice for him on current gen will be CoD ghosts. All he’s trying to say. Gameplay wise is completely opinion based.

            • Zatanna XOXOXOXO

I agree with what you have said, but he was not just expressing an opinion. He was insinuating that “asfhf” is stupid in this quote “I have some brain for you!”. Which is ironic considering most of the logic he used it is off base, and another thing was just 100% wrong. He used insults and made up facts (like the whole next gen consoles won’t sell, but in reality the pre-orders have already done great) to attempt to make his point.

        • Ryan Hoffman

will jnot sell well during the first year?
says who? all the systems preorders have been sold…

        • WarHero
        • Zatanna XOXOXOXO

Do you have any evidence supporting that next gen consoles will not sell well at launch? There is plenty of evidence that say the contrary, so you really have the burden of proof here. Stop making baseless assumptions. Clear?

      • CoDforever

Why make it for current gen then ?

        • James Mulhall

Does it look like EA are going to make more money if people buy a next-gen console + their game? No. They would they make more money selling it on current-gen and getting even more money just so people can upgrade.

          • CoDforever

Yea i know but that doesnt mean they should purposelly make the game shit on current gen. This dude has a problem with the current gen build of BF4, so let him express it. After all, this is a BF article and i dont know why everyone is giving him flack for that.

            • Craig

It’s not a matter of purposely making the game run bad on current-gen.. it’s the hardware limitations

            • Jake Jeckle

BF3 was far from shit on current gen. I enjoyed it and still am enjoying it. Maybe you are just not good at it. Graphics is not everything.

    • kevin lemur

you’re complaining why the game doesn’t run well on your old hardware, but instead you should ask why your old hardware can’t run well with the game. the reason COD is able to run at 60fps on current hardware is because the maps aren’t as big as BF, it doesn’t have destruction or huge buildings falling, it uses the same engine every year, and it doesn’t have huge amounts of players playing at the same time. at most COD’s ground war goes to 18 players. it’s time to stop catering to those unwilling to upgrade, because it’s holding back the game for those willing to play a better game. you’re asking them to dumb down their game to play 60fps on current gen consoles is laughable. it’s been dumbed down even further than the lowest setting on PC. it’s been like 8 years since the xbox360 release time to move on. DICE has no loyalty to consoles, their first 4 games are for PCs only. go ahead and buy COD, but don’t say it’s because BF couldn’t run on ur old console.

      • CoDforever

Why didnt anyone say this about BF3 back when that was released ? COD’s aimed at doing something else rather than BF, and BF is also. And its not like he has a fudgin ps2, he has the CURRENT hardware. Even though all of that cant be done on current gen, why even make a current gen version then ? why not instead work on making PC and Next gen versions better ?

        • kevin lemur

BF3 runs a lot better than BF4 beta, so with everything BF4 is adding it’s only going to get worst for current console players. not everybody can afford to upgrade at launch, so luckily DICE decided to give a dumb down version for those still wanting to play BF4 but cannot upgrade. the only downside is that ppl deciding to stick to current gen should be aware what they are paying for. A lot of ppl have unrealistic expectations for the performance of BF4 on current gen merely because it’s the next iteration. Just because it’s current doesn’t mean it’s not outdated in a technology standpoint. There’s already incentives for the consumer to upgrade you get 64p servers, higher graphics, 60 fps, commander mode, and spectator mode which will not be in current gen. Unlike COD this will be the last BF game for a while due to DICE shifting focus over to Battlefront and Mirror’s Edge. i’d rather they did not hold anything back to cater to the current gen players so that this game will last a long time like BF2.

          • CoDforever

But you said DICE has no “Loyalty to consoles” ? The man you replied to is not able to to upgrade right now, yet you bashed the hell out of him. He cant upgrade if the updated tech is not out yet. The incentitives mean nothing, almost all of those are on BF3 on PC yet did everyone wanna get a pc for the PC “Incentitives” ? This WONT be the last BF game in a while, DW about that ! EA is not backing out the FPS fight just yet ! Its so close they think, they can just feel that shit !

            • kevin lemur

i’m “bashing” him because he’s putting all the blame on DICE for BF4 not running well on current gen, “frostbyte sucks”. I’m saying he’s asking the wrong questions and blaming the wrong ppl for his bad experience. He didn’t complained that he couldn’t upgrade, or his experience with next gen was terrible (if he had played at E3 or something), he was complaining about his current gen experience “Now DICE betrays not just current-gen users but also themselves”. when i put DICE has no loyalty to consoles i meant consoles will always get the second rate version to the PC. they didn’t create the game with consoles in mind, they modified the game to fit consoles after they finished making it. if those incentives are not enough to merit an upgrade, then ppl like “Orcun Acik” should not complain about a terrible experience. EA has Titanfall and Battlefront after BF4, no i don’t think they’re out of the “FPS fight”. But i do believe another BF is not on the agenda at DICE considering they just shelved the next Bad Company iteration.

        • Jake Jeckle

Maybe because there is over a 150 million install base out there for current gen. Not everybody will be able to afford or get one do to the consoles being sold out. It is not hard to figure out.

      • PuddingAuxRais1ns

They should have dumbed down the graphics on the current-gen versions in order to attain 60 fps. Frame rate -> fancy visuals anyday. Why you think that CoD is played more on current gen than it is on PC? Because the game is smooth. 30 fps is unacceptable for a competitive shooter. It’s one of the reason why i will one day buy a PC which runs BF at 60 fps. BF is a superior game, but the frame rate alone makes CoD better on current gen IMO.

        • James K

Very off-topic but…a man with a shirt and hat. Am I looking at your avatar properly?

        • kevin lemur

the run and gun formula of COD is what works with majority of console players. the fast time to kill, hipfire, low recoil, massive killstreaks, 100-10 kdrs, and shiny gun skins connect with the average console player. COD Ghost is going to run great on current gen, so BF lost the market on current gen. instead DICE should just look to create the best game they can without needing to cater to old hardware.

      • Orcun Acik

If it is big maps…did you play GTA 5 on current-gen? It has a huge map running smoothly. It is about sucking Frostbyte not maps.

        • pot51e

GTA V, running smoothly….Really? Multiplayer much?

Don’t try and hold GTAV up as something its not – yep, big map and great game, loads of fun, good mechanics but also shit multiplier due (mainly) to poor platform with performance issues, glitches and its own small douche-bag community.

          I share the sentiments here:

          http://games.on.net/2013/10/gta-online-rockstar-battles-crashes-lag-and-ancient-console-hardware-to-give-you-a-brief-glimpse-of-fun/

Its easy to have a big map – but not so easy to have a big multiplayer map where everything works.

          • Jake Jeckle

90% percent of people that bought GTA5 could give a shit less about the multiplayer. Your comment invalid.

            • zakrocz

Nope, not invalid. The person he was replying to was trying to compare GTA V single player to BF3/4 multiplayer.

        • That guy you might know

That was probably the dumbest thing anyone could even say.

First off you’re comparing two different games, one being made for current-gen, next-gen, and pc. They want to make it an optimal experience for the high end consoles.

While the other one is just current-gen, and pc. So they can work to fit the standards of the system and how much the hardware can take.

And GTA Online has so many texture pop-ins and issues its not even funny, I was playing this morning and drove into nothing, a few seconds after I hit it a road sign spawned in front of where I hit. I’ve suffered frame-rate issues before, but not as much anymore.

So either, A) You don’t play online, and just ignore all the bugs and issues with it. Then get all pissy with Battlefield because it didn’t live up to your ridiculous and ignorant standards.
          Or
          B) You obviously don’t know shit about anything, and just claim the whole thing is bad because you weren’t satisfied. Get over yourself.

          • Orcun Acik

Neither A or B. It is C. I’ll not talk about it anymore. Please go and buy BF4 Premium show your love.
btw I am playing GTA5 online with latest update from this morning (1.04) I have no problems on PS3 and also I haven’t since 1.03.
It is not about making for next-gen or current gen. It is about quality of work. Check the sea water on GTA5 and BF4. They made a cheap slack game. Go and buy it. I am not against that.

        • zakrocz

Lol, you haven’t got the faintest clue about what you’re talking about have you? :D

    • ANTHONYxSOPRANO

You’re always bitching about a game that’s not even out yet..smh. The real problem is that you except a 2013 game to work on a 2005 console!!!!! Are you mad because DICE didn’t make BF4 for the burger flipping 2005 console crowd???? Don’t bitch because your sorry ass can’t afford a new console, suck it up butercup

      • Orcun Acik

So how other games like GTA 5 with huge map runs smoothly on a 2005 console with far better graphics. Check BF4; same vehicles, same environment objects, containers, boxes, very low poly cars that you can’t move or smash over with a tank ( You can do it in GTA 5 )
I am angry to DICE because they made a cheesy game. And you will see how fast internet speed BF4 is demanding on next-gen consoles to play smoothly. It also sucks on next-gen. Because Frostbyte sucks!

  • http://www.facebook.com/datkidfromawendaw Clay Johnson

“A bug that caused an elevator to catapult players.”

Lol how did I miss seeing that?

    • oofy

      I never saw that either.

      *heads to youtube*

  • Jack S.

What about on consoles when you reloaded, you lost all your ammo? Or was that part of the game?

    • Don Fourth Horseman

They said that was just part of the beta and the alpha videos you seen played. DICE said that was a option, so im guessing specific servers will implement that-ive gotten use to it through Beta, but I dont like it, personally

      • Jack S.

Same, I think it should be for hardcore.

    • Ryan Hoffman

it will be availible as an option, it will no longer do that on normal servers but will still do it on hardcore servers. this is realistic due to the fact when you take a used mag out in a fire fight you arent going to sit there and refill your mags. you would throw the mag away.

    • Gannon

I really wish they would keep it, in my opinion it was really cool, we just needed those mags to be kept instead of chucking them. Just reload one that’s already partly used up if you run out of ammo. Makes sense to me.

    • WarBroh

Now you have to think tactically rather than just mindlessly spamming reload. Adapt or go back to CoD where they embrace EZMODE mechanics.

    • zakrocz

I read somewhere that this was a hardcore setting, so it will be like this in bf4 hardcore but will be same as bf3 normal in bf4 normal :)

  • DanDustEmOff

I had massive fr drop near the mall which was still happening after the patches. I’m sure it’ll be sorted out for launch tho.

  • Jamie Marques

this all sounds good to me, but I just want them to bring back the old revives, or at least only reduce the charge time by a couple seconds.

    • http://www.facebook.com/datkidfromawendaw Clay Johnson

Pressing RT/R2 to revive is the dumbest thing ever

      • Jamie Marques

well I play on pc, so that doesn’t affect me. what I mean is the time it takes to revive, and how long you charge it affects their helath. I think a 1.5 second charge time for the defibs and a standard 60% health after revive would be fine.

  • leeroy_newman

“elevators were never designed to act as a catapult or teleporter” they was scripted to teleport players, because DICE cant makes moving elevator.

    • WarBroh

      And apparently you can’t english.

      • theplantain

        lulz

  • BF Noob

Coming from COD and never playing a Battlefield game… which controllee layout is most similar?

    • Robenter

      “Veteran”

      • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

I believe “Veteran” was more similar to BF3, no? I think the default layout in the beta was closest to Call of Duty’s (right thumbstick = knife, B = crouch).

        • Craig

I think they said “Legacy” was supposed to be the closest to BF3

          • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

In the final build, yes. I believe in the beta, the only two options were “Default” and “Veteran” which was close to BF3 but with the right bumper as the spot function and B as the melee function.

I assume “Legacy” will keep the right bumper as melee and B as enter/exit vehicle/arm/disarm.

        • Robenter

Hmm, that sounds right. I think I was confusing Resistance controls w/ COD.

    • CoDforever

In BF4, they use the same control scheme as COD’s default control scheme. Hope that helped.

  • WarHero

Looks like DICE took an account for the 90% of things I was worried on for Launch, only thing they need to resolve is the bugged Levolution where the Skyscraper stays up after it was destroyed.

    • AtheistMason

You need a better graphics card lol..

I never encountered that problem when playing on my desktop PC (with GTX780) but the first time I played it on a laptop with GT750M all destructible stuffs (incl. Skyscraper and those stone lions) stayed up after their destruction…

      • WarHero

Does the 2x 7990 answer your question?
It happened to my friends as well who have powerful rigs and the only way to get rid of it was to exit the server and rejoin but that’s just a hassle. I guess I’ll have to wait and see for retail release.

        • AtheistMason

          AMD! xDDD

          • WarHero

What’s wrong with it? I’m a NVIDIA fan for over 3 years and AMD for over 3 years.

  • swipe_06

Sooooo it seems this game will play more like BF3 and less like MoH Warfighter after balancing.

  • CoDforever

Im pretty amazed on how they were able to change so much two weeks before the game comes out, (Games are usually finished by then) but i think all these issue could have been fixed after the game came out as a patch because it would be the final build and the problems would be much easier to spot

    • mechcell

Beta build was over a month old on consoles.

    • swipe_06

Technically most of these tweaks only involved changing a number in the code (tho probably they ran a few rounds to test them out)

  • CoDforever

Im not hating or anything but i wish they removed the building collapsing element in siege of shanghai because lets be real here first, no ones gonna give a shit about the collapse animation 1 month into the game, they are just gonna be like “the buildings down”. I want the skyscraper to be the main focus point on the map, so like both the teams are trying to take over and hold it down. Wouldn’t that be sick rather making it collapse so badly as soon as the game starts ?

    • That guy you might know

Most people didn’t bring it down just for the hell of it. I’m only saying most because I sure as hell did when I first played.

But later on it became a tactical thing. If the enemy took that position and we had a hard time getting it back, we just brought the building down. Why would they take something like that out?

You don’t realize how the destruction could be used for things other than show.

      • WarBroh

You’re arguing with the resident CoD troll, do not feed it.

        • That guy you might know

          Don’t worry, I’m counter trolling him….
          Mentally . _.

    • uwantSAM0A

Sure, it annoys me by dropping the draw distance because of the Los Angeles smog, but it’s an element that adds a tactical aspect to the match. If they were to put two of the columns inside the skyscraper, or add an MCOM station that has to be set off after the four pillars are taken out, it would give more reason to defend it from falling. It was mentioned in a JackFrags vid. Also, with customizable servers, I’m hoping you can choose to turn Levolution on or off.

  • DatGuy

“If you’re more comfortable with the controls from Battlefield 3, we’ve
got you covered. Just by bringing up the options menu, you can choose
the “Legacy” layout, which is similar to that in Battlefield 3.”

Similar does not mean exactly the same. Why fix something that wasn’t broken? How hard is it to let console players bind their own controls like on PC?

    • mechcell

Because of Microsoft and Sony. You can able to bind you own controls like a PC on Steam machine aka steam box.

      • DatGuy

There are plenty of games on PS3/XBOX that allow you to bind your own controls.

      • http://www.facebook.com/datkidfromawendaw Clay Johnson

What are you talking about? CS:GO among other games ;ets console players remap buttons

    • BillyHoWCR

Exactly… if they haven’t fixed the issue with Melee, and spot controls then it is all for nothing. For some reason they have made it so spot/commorose can’t be changed and only able to be married to fire button. (being above it for Xbox 360) If this is not fixed then I won’t be purchasing.

  • ROCKMONEY

SO ONLY THE WEAPONS IN THE BETADEMO GET FIXED?????

    • James K

      Well…they can’t ignore it.

      • ROCKMONEY

True but knowing Dice you just know that there’s another USAS-12 w/frags situation in the retail version waiting to get abused…

        • James K

Yeah. It’s only a matter of time until someone found the masterkey combination.

  • Peter

I want you all to know that I’m currently playing through and attempting to beat Pokemon Blue on GameBoy to tide me over until October 29th. FYI

  • Nick

RPG7 and SMAW can no longer lock on to Laser Designated Targets. It was inauthentic and not balanced.

…. Reduced the lock on distance for RPGs, SMAW, and MBT LAW missiles to 350m from 500m. …

Which is it? RPG locking has been removed, or RPG locking distance has been reduced?

    • Leon

It is just a typo and has already been corrected on the official blog to “Reduced the lock on distance for MBT LAW missiles to 350m from 500m”

  • MC-ARNIE

“We are still balancing gameplay, and in true DICE fashion we will continue to do so well after the release of Battlefield 4.”

In other words every weapon will eventually end up exactly the same again a few patches down the line! Battlefield has ALWAYS been my favourite FPS title (5x Veteran), but in my an generally all vet’s eye’s, B3 was by far the weakest of the series, it’s way to commercialised now and lost it’s gritty feeling earlier Battlefields had, even the bad company series aswel. I’ll probably get it next year when I upgrade to PS4 but it’s for the first time ever not a priority title for me.

  • BillyHoWCR

They didn’t mention anything about actually fixing the elevators. Just the glitch that launched you into the air.

Currently elevators aren’t even acting like elevators. I can be on top floor ‘inside the elevator’ and someone can be on the bottom floor ‘inside the same elevator’ and we both can go up and down endless times without even seeing each other. What magic elevators are these? They need to make it so you have to call the elevator down if it is at the top of the roof and visa/versa, This teleportation thing takes away any sense of reality in the least.

I’m on PS3 and I would get stuck either loading the game or after I had set up my brightness and visual margins. Hope they put a fix out for console aswell as PC.
