New Star Wars-related “Next Gen Open World Action Game” In Development at EA Canada

As indicated by recent job postings from the Vancouver, Canada division of publisher Electronic Arts, a “New Next Gen Open World Action Game” is allegedly in the works and is in need of “an experienced Animation director”, among other positions.

The listing, originally discovered by Kotaku, reads that “EA Canada is looking for an experienced Animation director to help define and deliver on the vision for a major new next gen open world action game.” The positions will “oversee the development of animation, and work closely with the Creative Director, Game Director & Combat Designer to establish and realize the vision of the game.”

While the description itself does not appear to be related to anything Star Wars, the studio’s then-recruiter indicated that the studio was looking for a “Lead Combat Designer for Star Wars @EA,” confirming that a new Star Wars project is indeed in the works at EA Canada. IGN points out that “two other executive producer position listings may indicate a collaborative process between EA Canada in Vancouver, and Visceral Games in Redwood Shores.”

As per EA’s recent contract with Disney, Digital Illusions CE, Visceral Games, and BioWare are all on track to produce “new games based on Star Wars characters and storylines,” spanning “all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres” for the next 10 years. As of this writing, we already know DICE is hard at work on Star Wars: Battlefront, which EA CFO Blake Jorgensen stated earlier “will most likely come out around the same time as the Star Wars movies start to come out, probably in the summer of ’15.”

EA Canada in Vancouver might just be the latest addition to an already impressive roster of Star Wars video game developers at EA.

We’ll keep you posted on any other Star Wars-related findings we might come across. For now, how would you fancy an ‘open world Star Wars action game’ for next-gen?
