Call of Duty: Ghosts Free to Play on Steam This Weekend, Double XP Inbound

On top of some heavy discounts, Call of Duty: Ghosts will be free to play this weekend on Steam, served with a dose of Double XP to sweeten the deal.

Spotted by Reddit user Trollin_Thunder, the game’s Steam page highlights a couple of weekend deals for Call of Duty: Ghosts, including sales on the base game and the Digital Hardened Edition. The game will also be free to play for the duration of the weekend.

In addition, a banner indicates a Double XP weekend event, which we presume will apply to all platforms. As of this writing, neither Infinity Ward nor Activision have made an official announcement on the event, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.  Check out the details we have so far below:

UPDATE: Infinity Ward has officially announced Double XP across all platforms this weekend.

If you missed it, the PC version of Call of Duty: Ghosts received a game update last week that added a FOV changer and slightly “nerfed” the Riotshield and C4 combo, among other things. You can check out the details right here.

Heard mixed feelings about Ghosts… Glad I can give it a try to see what it’s like, rather than dumping $60 in a game I don’t know I’ll like!

With how broken this game is on PC, it should have been free to play to begin with.

IW, or the husk that’s left of them, can shove it. First MW3 and now this junk.

    • MeisseN

MW3’s like freaking Game of the Year compared to this one.

After Totalbiscuits review, i’m not even going to try it for free

  • ButteredBread

Never played the game but not really seen any favorable comments. It’s pretty obvious that they are doing the double xp to get more players on so that the free playing players think a lot of people play it. Pretty sneaky!

Ghosts on PC really sucks.Terrifing high hardware requiring but low improving of graphics and textures.WTF is IW thinking?

This wasnt worth the 25gb download. Not only is the gameplay boring but my computer is good enough to run BF4 on high with a good FPS, ghost is getting choppy on medium :L

ok maybe im just to impatient but where is the link to install the game for the free weekend? Steam really needs to make the dern thing more obvious. EVERY free weekend i want to try i catch hell finding out how to get started.

    • Vikerii

Did you ever find the link to install it? I couldn’t. Maybe they took the link away knowing it wouldn’t finish until after the free period ends.

  • yogesh_gamer

I am downloading this game, it will take some days to download so can I play it later or this game is free for weekend only and later i have to buy this game ? Please clear my doubt

I have to say, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more layoffs in the video game industry. By that I mean with Infinity Ward. They’ve underperformed compared to Treyarch. 3ARC has only improved since CoD 3. IW went down since MW3. Also Sledgehammer being introduced now officially as a main dev team is probably to give IW a second (or third) chance by giving them more time. That and of course to help the CoD games be more polished. Maybe Activision is scared of CoD going down from now on. Hopefully in 3 years IW delivers something good or else I feel they’ll be fired or at least most of them.
