Blizzard Developing Diablo 3 For ‘Xbox One and PS4 Simultaneously’

Microsoft has yet to officially announced Diablo 3‘s arrival on the Xbox One, but it is in development, says Blizzard.

Speaking to VideoGamer, lead producer Alex Mayberry said that the Ultimate Evil Edition of Diablo 3 is in development on the Xbox One, along with the previously announced PlayStation 4 version.

“I don’t know where we are with Microsoft right now so I can’t really comment on what that contract looks like,” Mayberry explained. “The point is we are developing for Xbox [One] and PS4 simultaneously. We hit those major platforms and then our goal as a development team is to make them run.”

According to Mayberry, “it makes more sense” to develop for both next-gen consoles simultaneously, even without assurance that it will appear on Microsoft’s platform.

“We have that pipeline worked out,” he continued. “We’ve already done it with the 360 and PS3, so that team knows how to develop at the same time for both of those platforms. That’s just what we do. And then Blizzard and Microsoft can work out whatever they work out.”

Mayberry added that the launch of Diablo 3’s Ultimate Evil Edition is “not far off… [The console team] work in parallel development with us so they’re not far behind.”

Blizzard is currently gearing up for the launch of Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls expansion set on the Mac and PC tomorrow, March 25.
