Call of Duty 2014 – ‘Competitive Scene is Very Important to Sledgehammer Games’

Our first real peek at Call of Duty 2014 is just around the corner as we approach the month of May, but already we’re learning about the sort of plans studio head Michael Condrey and his team at Sledgehammer Games have in store for their debut entry in the series.

I had the chance to sit with Condrey for a brief period of time, watching the 2014 Call of Duty Championship last month, and based off of my own impression of the Seldgehammer co-founder, I could tell that he and his team were passionate about fostering a strong competitive community around their upcoming, unannounced Call of Duty title.

Studio members at Sledgehammer attended both Call of Duty: Ghosts’ and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Championship last year where they were seen actively taking notes about the experience as well. As Call of Duty YouTube personality drift0r points out in a recent video, they were serious about picking up on tips and gathering feedback.

In response to that video, Condrey confirmed on Twitter that “The competitive scene is v.important to @SHGames,” adding that they “Can’t wait to talk eSports!”

While it hasn’t been officially announced, it’s more than likely that Sledgehammer Games will be host to a 2015 Call of Duty Championship event.

In March, Sledgehammer co-founder Glen Schofield told his audience at GDC 2014 that Call of Duty 2014 will be the “most ambitious, most creative game [they’ve] ever made”. We also know that the studio will be taking a “next-gen first” approach to the game, focusing development on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC versions of the shooter.
