Advanced Warfare Exo’s and Gadgets “Won’t Be OP” in Multiplayer, Dev Team Includes Current and Former Pros

According to information Call of Duty YouTube personality Drift0r was handed through a phone call with Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey, Exo’s will definitely play a part in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer and will have an effect on player movement.

“We spent a ton of time designing them and building our game around them,” said Condrey, one of a number of quotes that Drift0r was able to paraphrase. “Not yet ready to say exactly how they will be in multiplayer though but we didn’t spend all that design time just for the campaign.”

“We wanted to make [movement] feel familiar to other CoD games but also added a few changes. We wanted to make a really fast paced CoD game.”

Condrey wasn’t able to dive into any details on gadgets, but he did want to “make it clear that they won’t be OP.” Many of you might have noticed the modular grenades that could alternate types and other devices like the ballistic shield from the Advanced Warfare gameplay reveal and wondered what sort of effect they might have on multiplayer. But it looks like we won’t have to worry too much to about it.

“Multiplayer is a core part of our game. It is getting a lot of attention and development time,” Condrey assured Drift0r. “We are not ready to reveal what gadgets will be in multiplayer.”

Interestingly, Condrey then explained that “Most of MP dev team are former or current CoD players, some eSports guys. They played through the last few cycles.”

“That’s why we are working hard right now to make sure everything is balanced before launch,” he added.

Commenting on the out-of-the-blue phone call, Condrey once again assured Drift0r that the they “take community and eSports feedback very seriously. The game is made for you to enjoy.”

Be sure to watch Drift0r’s video above for more details.

Please no explosives you can place down.

    • George

How about not mixing all the explosives you can put down into one equipment like how the ied is the bouncing betty and claymore combined but on crack.

      • DanDustEmOff

I don’t see why people don’t just use Sit Rep. Easy cheap counter that turns the IED into a beacon for an easy kill.

        • awkenney

You could create counters for every aspect of COD and you’d eventually wind up with bloat. The best solution is to include more gunplay and less things that need counters. UAV for example got absurd when they introduced counter-UAV. Then you had EMP, which is also a counter to UAV. It just gets ridiculous.

      • MrMultiPlatform

IEDs don’t shoot up in the air.

        • George

          Yes they do

        • Xtrendence

No, they just explode everything in a 10 mile radius :P lol, it’s like a single IMS, it’s… bad

    • DanDustEmOff

I would like to see them gone too. However if there’s an effective counter that doesn’t throw the balance out then that’s fine also.

      • awkenney

Counters automatically throw the balance out.

        • DanDustEmOff

Not if they do more than just the one thing. I know you want a sticks and bones fps but that’s not CoD and it’s probably never going to be that way ever again.

          • awkenney

Sticks and bones worked for COD4 and World at War, COD4 being widely regarded by gamers. MW2 effed it all, but introduced an entirely new set of children to the series… probably because MW2 had to be more chaotic to appease ADD victims.

            • DanDustEmOff

Even CoD 4 had nooby perks like Last Stand, Juggernaut and Martyrdom. CoD 2 was probably the last barebones CoD to exist and nobody really wants to go back that far.
My step daughter has ADD and Asperger’s. I’m normally tolerant of people labelling all kids with ADD, as a joke, but I do take a certain amount of offence to them being labelled as victims. I would appreciate it if you edited that last word out.

            • awkenney

Fair point. I’ve edited to make the point more clear.

            • DanDustEmOff

              Thanks.

  • SupremeVishnu

I just hope that the smart grenade is not in… I feel that an one in all grenade is kind of ridiculous. Plus it will take away a bit of the tactical side of what’s left of CoD. I like the idea of giving up one thing for another. ex. smoke for a stun.

  • Yevgenij Pekurovskyy

Maps probably gonna be shitty again. They haven’t decent level designers since years

  • john

but will it let be laggy?

    • Yevgenij Pekurovskyy

of course, activision is not going to give you dedicated servers.

      • alexrr10

Ghosts doesn’t have dedicated servers and there’s no lag

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/WildChildTactics WildChildTactics

We shall see once we get to play the MP. If it’s tastefully done, AW could be one of the coolest COD game in the past few years.

  • xHDx

Someone, please just ask them about Dedicated Servers.

    • thatoneguy

Werent we supposed to have Dedicated Servers in Ghosts and then they did a “fuck you we don’t care” and decided just to go half ass and use peer to peer anyway? I mean considering they make the most money out of an gaming company you would think they have a couple million to throw towards some server banks.

      • xHDx

Yes. Mark Rubin announced that the new and old consoles would have dedicated servers only to leave people confused when it launched with P2P like you said. It’s an utter disgrace. He should have lost his job title by now and that company should be sued and put into bankruptcy. All they want is money. Just a bunch of greedy twats.

        • Wiz

They said they put in “listen Servers” (mix of dedi and P2P)
          I call bullshit!

          • thatoneguy

“Just a reminder that we are using a hybrid system for Ghosts online play to deliver the best possible connection. So sometimes you might be on listen-servers and sometimes you might be on dedicated servers, depending on which offers the better connection. We’re making tweaks every day to improve the experience across all platforms, more updates to come. And yes, with today’s launch of Xbox One, there will be dedicated server support.”

That’s what he said about 7 months ago…I think what they did was made their login screen/create a class and their stupid squad matches dedis yet actual gameplay is still peer to peer. Almost every single game I play I will watch the kill cams only to realize that none of them match up, I still get one shot, I still get shot around corners. The game is a disgrace.

            • Wiz

Probably. After what IW did with Ghosts ( all the BS lies ), I think that I’m finally done with CoD. Advanced Warfare looks pretty cool but I don’t trust any CoD developer anymore and will most likely not purchase Advanced Warfare.

          • xHDx

It’s more than bullshit. They put Dediservers ‘Somewhere’ just so they can claim they have them. At the end of the day, they don’t need to prove what those servers are used for, so they can lie out of their ass as much as they like. Although I do enjoy watching the sales figures drop year after year. It has to end somewhere.

      • DanDustEmOff

To be fair I have played Ghost’s on PC, X1 and PS4 and the connection quality is superb. Especially when stacked against it’s rival that manages to run worse on dedicated servers. Out of the three platforms though the X1 has the best connection out of them all, can’t fault it one bit.

        • ThisGuy

Honestly the only real problem I have ever had with connection was entirely on my end. Otherwise the connection has been great.

          • DanDustEmOff

What system do you play on?

        • Jonah Thrillz

Yeah figures an XBonehead fanboy would say that.

I can just easily lay claim to having all three platforms but conclude the PS4 is the better out of all of them for having “the best connection”.

One thing we can all agree is that Ghosts has a higher resolution on PS4. 1080p @ 60fps.
          XB1 is only 720p.

          • DanDustEmOff

You could certainly make the claim that the connection is better on the PS4. However The X1 has Azure dedicated servers. If your ping to them is low enough to them, you will get dedicated servers every time you play.

Please explain to me how I can be a fan boy of a system I don’t own or intend to own. The PS4 has it’s pro’s and con’s and so does the X1. Neither system has dazzled me yet and neither has a must have game to make me buy one.

If the PS4 brings out a must have game that isn’t on PC then I would buy one. I have no loyalty to either MS or Sony, unlike yourself. I’m just a gamer I don’t care about which corporations system I game on. I just want to game on the best system I can get or the best games I can get.

            • ckpinkham

Kinda why most of the hardcore console gamers wanted Xbone for dedicated multiplayer… but M$ dropped the ball so much with forced Kinect & less power for games, pretty much everyone I know has gone to PS4. Including me. And I’m afraid that Sony won’t do anything to compete with dedicated servers… and with my average connection speed of 770kbps… well, I’ll be fucked in multiplayer. I was really hoping for an Azure-like announcement from Sony at E3, but no such luck :/

        • thatoneguy

Tbh I played on both x360 and X1 and neither reached my “standards”. Both of which I died behind corners, both of which had to host migrate every other game, the connection is garbage, and this is with a in wall connection, on verizon fios with 50mbps down. No matter what, unless with dedicated servers the multiplayer setting will never have consistent results due to the fact not everyone is running on the same internet, with the same ping, and the same input lag, it’s virtually impossible.

          • DanDustEmOff

You must be too far from the Azure data centers to get on them. Been playing on my friends X1 two or three times a week since January. Never seen a single host migration, never died around a corner. Game runs flawlessly.

        • Wiz

Yeah but they promised dedi’s for all platforms then when it came close to release, they changed it to listen servers, and now they abandoned the pc community and lied about the “server browser” just to make some more money.

          • lukazo

they did more than abandoned the PC community!

when infinity ward makes the next cod no fucker will buy it on steam!

          • DanDustEmOff

No promises were made only claims. But yeah it was a shitty tactic.

      • awkenney

Mark Rubin twisted the truth by referring to matchmaking servers as dedicated servers. He spoke the truth, but he knew better when he said it.

    • Rosemeadshredder

      Dedicated Peer-to-Peer confirmed, lol.

    • MrMultiPlatform

Have you never played a game with them? All dedicated servers do is stop host migration.

      • DanDustEmOff

Not true, by removing the host every system is on a level playing field. When someone acts as host their system has to act like a server as well as running the game.

This means that the host has a disadvantage especially in CoD. With the engine basing it’s maths on fps lower frame rates mean the host moves slower, has slower fire rates and a bunch of hinderances.

Thats before we even get to connection quality. Servers have a better network when compared to local ISP’s. Meaning the traffic to and from the server has an easier time getting around because the servers network has a higher bandwidth than your home network can handle.

        • ckpinkham

Ever hear of Host Advantage? Lots of times the host actually gets to obliterate the competition because he has no ping to his own internet lol and all his shots count first. All he has to do is not suck at aiming, and he wins most encounters that start face-to-face. Sometimes the lag of the other person is so bad, they (the host) will get hit once in the back, turn around, kill the enemy, and walk away before any other hits are detected on the host.

          • DanDustEmOff

That was at a time when the systems weren’t being fully optimised and people had terrible connections. BO2 and MW3 also has a host disadvantage. BO2 was the absolute worst, I used to max out my connection just to avoid being host when I played on console. It was horrible being the host in that game.

            • ckpinkham

The host disadvantage is only in the COD games, and that’s due to their shitty lag compensation. Try playing ANY other p2p game and host gets advantage not disadvantage.

            • DanDustEmOff

Lag comp has nothing to do with host disadvantage. I described how host disadvantage works above. Its happens because the engine thinks in frames per second. When the frame rate dives so does your run speed and fire rate.

            • ckpinkham

Explain the theories all you want, in practice, host often gets ADVANTAGE, not disadvantage. I don’t claim to know exactly how it works out that way, but I’ve played many many hours against hosts with advantages.

        • awkenney

This is only the case IF the dedicated server is not using any anti-lag technology. The moment the anti-lag gets turned on, you can have any number of issues with hit registration as well as priority of hit registration.

          • DanDustEmOff

There are many if’s such as hit registation type. I’m talking about an ideal situation. Crysis 3 is a perfect example of how to do things right. Ghost’s gets a B+ in my experience.

      • xHDx

They host the game for you instead of you hosting the game. That’s how Host Migration is removed and the lag, people only lag if their internet is bad. Everyone else plays fine. With P2P servers, someone in that lobby has to host the whole match i.e giving them a disadvantage and an advantage which can flip the lag in the game. As much as you you get Host advantage it doesn’t always come in your favor. If people have bad connection, it leaches your internet (COD) and you lag and get put at a disadvantage. Also the host has to run the Server on their console, straining the consoles power compared to non-hosts which gives out a disadvantage for the host.

  • thebulky1cometh

“We wanted to make a really fast paced CoD game…”

Does this mean “random” spawns where I’ll get shot from behind within 2 seconds? How about the insta-deaths prominently featured in Ghosts? I sure hope not. I haven’t been truly happy with COD since Blops1. Here’s to hoping that “learning from mistakes” is more than just typical lip service.

    • Scary69l

Majority of my deaths are from being spawned in-front of the apposing team and how it pisses me off you will never know.lol

      • thebulky1cometh

Haha I have an idea of how much it pisses you off- this is why I felt the need to comment about it!

    • Guest

Haha, blops 1, terrible game too, began the whole fiasco with lag comp

      • awkenney

That is somewhat insane. Maybe because I played on PC, the anti-lag wasn’t nearly in Blops 1. This makes me want to play it on a console just to see how bad it really is.

        • Guest

Did you play BLOPS 1 on PS3 and PC at launch? the game was unplayable……….

          • awkenney

Not PS3, but PC yes. I seem to remember the server code having some issues in the first few weeks, yeah. I don’t abandon a game when this happens.

  • Bobo

They can take esports and shove it up their arse, the esports modes in BO2 and especially ghosts are so restricted and unfun and this also goes for promods.

I try to imagine what kind shit esports version of Goldeneye 64 would’ve been made if it were made now.

    • Guest

Pubs are shit and cater to morons, esports only make the game harder and more competitive

    • awkenney

That’s a matter of opinion. COD became far less fun for me when they started adding more and more to the game (starting with MW2). I don’t enjoy the COD games at all when the determining factor in how well you play is in your selection of loadout, killstreaks, etc.

  • roland0811

“We wanted to make a really fast paced CoD game.”…… Every CoD game after CoD 3 just felt like a “run-shoot-die-respawn” fest on corridor-centric micro-maps. So they’re saying they’re doing nothing different?

    • Guest

COD 4 was good, particularly Cod 4 SND is one of the best modes ever

      • roland0811

COD 2-4 are my favorites. But with 4 I saw where the series was going and have been disappointed with every release after it.

  • Guest

Hopefully the maps will be designed good and spawns will make sense, the reason why spawns are bad is too prevent spawn camping, which still fails and I feel like the spawns are just trying to get people kills for a more casual focused game

  • lukazo

i really do hope sledgehammer can pull it of this year and show people that cod can change for the better, and be innovating, new and fresh!

    • ckpinkham

“Fast paced COD” = same bs multiplayer. I don’t want slow multiplayer like Splinter Cell Blacklist or Gears 3, but I’d like them to slow it down just enough that I get 2 seconds to think between firefights, like I had back in the glory days of MW2. An easy fix for that might be larger maps, like Ghosts had.

      • Guest

no it’d be higher TTK(Time to kill)

  • Mus1ckFPS

I Was actually stuck in between buying this a Halo Master chief edition, but seeing as its will be the first game on my XB1in november, i think i’ll go with Halo

  • xbox rules

I feal like no one will give 2 shits and a damn about this call of duty, it died down once cod ghost came out. Its the same fken Game over again. Who cares more better games are coming out besides cod like halo master chief collection destiny elder scrolls online and many more.

    • http://MP1st.com Denny Kovacs

Oh the irony of this comment.

They have a winning formula and a relatively good upkeep of fans and such. Call of Duty is successful because they fail to stray into territory that the mass amount of players don’t like. They keep the game simple with a dash of variety and the quality differs based on developer decisions for each installment.

This Call of Duty effectively brings in a new, more advanced theme that gives players a bit of hope.

      • ckpinkham

Lol winning formula? It’s copy and paste every year. Blops, MW3, and blops 2 all had the same gameplay minus dolphin diving, and shitty balance. And really, other than MW2 being amazingly balanced, it was the same as those 3. Ghosts TRIED something new, and every COD fanboy I know whined and complained about how it was the “worst COD ever” which just tells me that it must be amazing with how shit COD has been for the past 6 years. AW doesn’t bring much difference… at least Ghosts tried to innovate with Squads and Extinction. Since they can’t make a playable multiplayer anymore because nobody outside of DICE seems able to balance their fucking weapons, at least they tried to include some fun, not broken stuff like Horde. Yeah, it’s basically Gears 3′s horde slightly tweaked, but it’s the most fun I’ve had in a COD game since it wasn’t a broken series.

        • http://youtube.com/user/extremenameHD extreme_name

DICE? Balanced weapons? Hello, it’s the medic speaking.

        • Guest

Dice loves dumbing games down as BF3 and 4 are prime examples………..

  • dieger

    famas party everybody

  • PewPewTank

I have more faith in this than EA’s Battlefield Hardline

    • ckpinkham

Lol Hardline isn’t a broken piece of shit. The closed beta is practically perfectly balanced, and the fewest bugs I’ve encountered in a beta. COD has been broken since MW2 and will stay that way, because for some godforsaken reason, that’s what sells.

      • awkenney

Too bad the players in Battlefield are broken and will spend more time effing around in their sandbox and making “only in Battlefield” moments on Youtube than they will playing the objective.

        • ckpinkham

Lol not in BF3 on 360. That’s mostly PC players I bet, because it’s easier to do game caps and stuff from what I’ve heard. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some shit teams, but the vast majority at least attempt to ptfo. And COD players don’t play objectives at all! They play tdm instead lol

          • http://youtube.com/user/extremenameHD extreme_name

          • Guest

BF3 has the worst players in FPS history, the stupidity is insane

            • ckpinkham

lol no, COD does. At least on console.

          • awkenney

Never played BF3 on 360, but I imagine you’re right. The Xbox crowd seems to still appreciate competition.

COD on the other hand is exactly as you call it on all platforms. I blame the designer for this as the scoring doesn’t drive the player to complete the objective.

      • http://youtube.com/user/extremenameHD extreme_name

Isn’t broken but is the same, exact same, as BF4. With the exception that BF4 is better.

    • 失われた魂

Somebody had to mention it and start an argument. Way to go man.

Dedicated servers will not FIX THE DAMN LAG!!! All it will do is stop host migration. Look at BF it has dedicated servers & there still is lag.

    • ckpinkham

Look at BF3. No lag. BF4 still has issues because EA pushed DICE to release it at least 6 months early. This is the result of not letting DICE finish a game… but when dedicated servers & net code are done right, there is no lag.

      • HotHam

Lol no lag. You are absolutely funny. If your playing over an internet connection there will always be lag. You can’t get rid of it

        • ckpinkham

There’s some latency issues every now and then, but no lag. Barring the Siene Crossing load up lag.

      • Guest

Bf3 has has horrible hit detection. It was overlooked in BF3 because of the balancing issues the game had and bugs and now it became a bigger problem in BF4.
