New Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Update Incoming, Pistol Changes In The Works

Developers Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment are busy working on the next update for the popular online first-person PC shooter, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the studios announced today.

Details aren’t out yet — they are coming soon — but the dev team is giving players a heads up on what’s coming by highlighting their learnings from previous patches like the Arms Deal Update. According to the team, results from data-tracking the relationship between players and new weapons like the M4A1-S, USP-S and CZ75-Auto are having a direct impact on CS:GO’s next update.

Thus far, the Arms Deal Update has been successful in adding variety to commonly used primary weapons in every day matches. Specifically, 10 months after the update’s launch, the M4A1-S is now seeing much more use in comparison with the M4A4, AWP, and “other” commonly used weapons. Here’s the breakdown:

The CZ75-Auto, on the other hand, has had the opposite effect when it came to balancing out pistol usage among highly skilled players in Competitive Matchmaking. According to stats, the CZ75-Auto’s new-found popularity has cut into the usage of all other pistols — an unintended effect:

As a result, “you can expect us to make some pistol changes” in the next update, said the studio.

We’ll have to stay tuned for more details on other tweaks Valve and Hidden Path might have in the pipeline for the next update, so keep your sights on MP1st.
