The Last of Us Upcoming New DLC Maps Will Be Free, Update On Matchmaking Issues

Teased late last month, Naughty Dog has announced that the two new upcoming maps for The Last of Us will be released at no cost.

They stated on their official blog post that the maps will be free due to many still waiting patiently for the match making system to be fixed. This certainly is great news as many have felt that the new maps, if they had to be paid for, would divide the community up too fast. As for an update on the match making system, despite the recent patch fixing it for some, Naughty Dog continues to find more ways to improve it, and has stated that they have something in the works that is estimated to go up in a matter of weeks.

“Over the last two weeks, we’ve discovered that the most significant improvements may come from working with other teams at PlayStation to make updates to some of the existing matchmaking libraries. Since we are working with multiple groups inside and outside of the studio, we don’t yet have an exact date on when these updates will roll out. Our current estimate is on the short side of weeks, rather than months. We’ll be sure to keep you updated the moment we can provide more specific timing, or an actual date.”

The two new maps currently do not have a set release date, though a developer live stream showing them off is suppose to happen soon. They will be free for both new owners of the Remastered PS4 version, and for the PS3 version.
