New Battlefield 4 DLC Trailer, Final Stand CTE Servers Open Today

Final Stand is taking Battlefield 4 to the ice cold landscapes of Russia amidst a collection of secret military installations, rounding off the season of downloadable content as the game’s fifth and final expansion pack.

Interestingly, the add-on’s debut trailer, which you can catch above, offers no actual gameplay, but an extended look at some of the chilly new environments instead. It seems that DICE LA has been listening to fan feedback and is happy to deliver four snow-covered battlefields to send Battlefield 4 off in style. On display are four new maps, Operation Whiteout, Hammerhead, Giants of Karelia, and Hangar 21.

According to DICE LA’s Kristoffer Bergqvist & David Sirland, the studio wanted to “evolve the Battlefield experience and offer weapons and vehicles that behave differently than anything else on the battlefield.”

“Taking place on the arctic landscape of Russia, where the scientists of today are experimenting with technology that will define the battlefields of tomorrow (Battlefield 2142, anyone?), Final Stand will deliver four maps that are unique and distinct. With its military installations set against a wintry landscape, expect intense, infantry-focused combat.”

The duo also mentions an advanced Rail Gun Battle Pick-Up that fires a single round of powerful kinetic energy and an experimental hover tank that uses eight jet propulsion engines to maneuver that will be available to all players.

In a new move for the team at DICE, the studio is going to be running servers in Battlefield 4’s Community Test Environment that will host one new Final Stand map per day, starting today, September 9. To accommodate more players for the special event, the team has opened up additional CTE slots, so if you are a BF4 Premium member on PC, get signed up right here.

According to the CTE Forums, Operation Whiteout is the first map to go live in the rotation.

No official release date for Final Stand was mentioned.

Clearly, Final Stand aims to take Battlefield 4 in a whole new direction. What are your thoughts on the new vision?
