Destiny Grosses Over $325 Million Sold Worldwide In First Five Days, 100 Million Hours Played

After being named the biggest new video game franchise launch in history, Bungie’s latest project, a shared-world, sci-fi first-person shooter from the talented minds at Bungie called Destiny, is confirmed to have sold-through more than $325 million world wide in its first five days of launch.

Publisher Activision made the announcement today, based on “Chart-Track, first parties, retail customer sell-through information and Activision Blizzard internal estimates.”

In addition, the company also notes that, thus far, gamers have already logged more than 100 million hours of online play within the first week — a number on par with Activision’s Call of Duty titles — and have participated in 137 million activities.

“Millions of gamers are having a great time playing Destiny and can’t put down their controllers,” writes Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg. “And this is just the beginning. Destiny is a platform that will grow and evolve and we will continue to work closely with our partners at Bungie to bring a long line of new experiences and content to life in the game.”

Earlier, it was reported that Activision budgeted $500 million to the new IP’s development and marketing costs. Clearly, the company is on course to make profits sooner, rather than later.

More Destiny content is on the way, including a handful on in-game events as well as two expansion packs, The Dark Below and House of Wolves, both included in Destiny’s $35 Expansion Pass.
