MP Talk – Star Wars Battlefront Rumors, Speculation, & Expectations

It feels like the next bit of Star Wars Battlefront news is still galaxies away, so we decided to fill the void with some of our own speculation on what DICE might deliver to Star Wars fans this coming Holiday season.

Denny, Jimmy, Tom, and I discuss some of the recent rumors while sharing both our hopes and concerns for the anticipated shooter. We also ask how it might live up to our fierce expectations and bet on when we might see Star Wars Battlefront’s first gameplay trailer.

Have a listen and join the discussion!

Can help but think this was at least a week premature. Let’s see how broken Hardline is at launch before speculating on EAs ability to deliver

I’m not sure we’re as concerned with EA’s publishing practices as we are with DICE’s development practices on this one. Drawing on their previous history with Battlefield 4, Battlefield 3, and older Battlefield titles, I think there’s plenty to speculate on. Visceral Games, who are launching Hardline in just a few days here, won’t necessarily have as much of an impact on Battlefront.

In terms of server stability and online support, EA will either fail or succeed with Hardline, so there really isn’t much to talk about there. The beta showed promise, but we’ll see.

        Bloody well said.

    • Hardline

Beta of Hardline ran better then BF4 today so maybe premature is your specialty.

I didn’t play it for more than 5 hours, so I can’t say it was better, but definitely just as good as, which is rather sad if you think about it.

Has tons of audio glitches and frame rate hitches for me. What a freaking joke.

Really don’t know how this game will turn out, Dice seems to be spread too thin over multiple titles and along with a game on this scale, 2 years seems to be not enough time. If they are upgrading the engine again, I wonder if the game will be stable at launch, The original frostbite team from 2008 seems to be gone as evident with the launches over the past 3 1/2 years. How close will Dice keep true to the original battlefronts? Are they going to revolutionize it like how they did with bf3 and 4 compared to BF2?

Hopefully the game is amazing, but we’ll have to wait and see

I’m hopeful but my inner cynic is warning me….

  • Hardline

This is going to go 1 of 2 ways.

    1. DICE succeed and make one of the best shooters and Star Wars games ever made and jump starting everyones faith in them again.

    2. Or they fail and completely tarnish all reputation they had left after BF4 catastrophe and destroying hopes and dreams of Star Wars fans and BF fans.

IMO I still have faith in DICE and despite BF4 problems I think DICE is the ONLY studio who could pull off a Battlefront game.

It’s too bad EA added Pandemic to their studio bodycount. DICE keep lowering the bar with each successive release but maybe they’ll finally pull out of this nose dive they’re in. *cough* fire Gustav Halling *cough*…..

      It’s going to be 1.5 (between 1 & 2).

The internet will trash the game as they do with 90% of the games that release these days. While most of the video game players will enjoy the game, and will not be aware or annoyed by the bugs & issues.

Give me something like Battlefield or Destiny with a Star Wars skin, and I’ll be happy. Give me something better than that (I’m not expecting it), and I’ll brag about the game to everyone I know, even if they don’t play video games or like Star Wars. :)

Apparently it got a standing ovation behind closed doors where they showed some footage. Hopefully it not only lives up to the hype, but also up to the other games in the series. We need a good Star Wars game. Especially a MP shooter like Battlefront

  • Rex

Battlefront 2 on PC is 32v32 and it’s 10 years old so it’s easily achievable now.

I can’t get the feeling of a broken launch out of my head. It feels natural for exactly that to happen. Only for the game to get a dozen patches and net code updates to fill in the gaps. Only time will tell though, so all we can do is hope and wait.

I wonder if they’re daring enough to put any Dino hints in the game. I say they will. :]

  • dpg70

Boy if they screw up my Star Wars…

  • The anonymous employee

Anyone playing harline right now on ea access

  • waveRaiin

I personally can not wait for this. I KNOW that EA and DICE can do a boss job on it. Just because they had some problems when releasing the Battlefield titles doesn’t mean they will with this.

  • roland0811

I’ve been having some epic LAN battles on Battlefront 2 on my Xboxes and I’m still amazed at how it’s stood the test of time (at least for me). Anxious to see if DICE can measure up to what Pandemic did ten years ago.

I think the biggest problem with Battlefront may be the fact that multiplayer in general is changing.
5-15 minute matches over the same landscape is becoming stale. Give me the Endor Space battle, but also give me 6 player strike teams flying from ship to ship during the battle, disengaging enemy weapon and defense systems. Once one enemy craft has been dealt with, board your shuttle craft with your team, then proceed through all the hell going on with X-wings and Tie Fighters (other online players) onward to your next target.
    Execute Order 66!!!

    • DerpDetector

Teams? Requiring actual teamwork? Lol. Guess you haven’t been paying attention to the kinds of little dummies that play shooters these days. They run around like chickens with their heads cut off and if you even suggest they follow some teamwork they’ll tell you about all the bad words they learned at the playground.

      • Asylum Saint

Thats a very good point, and the reason I feel todays multiplayer model doesn’t work. Destiny, however works because there is a real incentive to work together, with substantial rewards on the line. I never see people goofing off during Nightfall and Raids, too much on the line and they’re lenghty missions. People will goof off in COD and Battlefield because the only thing you lose is the match and maybe 10 minutes of your life. I guess I was loosely suggesting multiplayer in Battlefront should follow a Borderlands / Destiny model.

    Battlefront 3-D with VR technology!!!

Battlefront 3-D now with VR technology!!!

I expect Star Wars Battlefront to be visually disappointing and a mess online.
