MKX “Cage Family Trailer” Shows Off First In-Game Footage Of Johnny Cage and Sonya, Last-Gen MKX Possibly Delayed

Get ready for to meet Earthrealm’s deadliest family: The Cages. The latest Mortal Kombat X trailer focuses on the deadly trio, showing off Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and their daughter, Cassie Cage, in action.

According to the GDC folks who’ve played Mortal Kombat X’s first story mode chapter which focuses on Johnny Cage, here are his three variations:

  • Fisticuffs: (Gold ‘CAGE’ knuckle-dusters)
    • Adds Fist Bump and Flashy combos and normal attacks.
  • Stunt Double: (Green tinted sunglasses)
    • Adds the ability to create Stunt Double Mimic moves.
  • A-List: (Black forearm bandages)
    • Can Charge Normal and Special moves for increased damage.

It’s also been reported that the “boss” for the chapter, Shinnok, has moves reminiscent of Shang Tsung as he’s able to summon projectiles from the ground that travel in a vertical trajectory. One of his variations is also being called “Imposter” which lets him borrow moves from his opponents, much like Shang Tsung. With that, it’s entirely possible that Shinnok will be playable in Mortal Kombat X.

From the reports that came from the first experience of MKX’s story mode, it appears that the following characters will be in the game but won’t be playable:

  • Sindel
  • Kabal
  • Stryker
  • Smoke
  • Nightwolf

We also see Fujin in the new sets of images that have been released of Mortal Kombat X, but his status in the game is still up in the air.

Additionally, those who will be playing the mobile version of Mortal Kombat X can look forward to unlocking console/PC skins for following characters:

  • Klassic Kitana
  • Farmer Jax
  • Injustice Scorpion

Now, with all of the great news about Mortal Kombat X out of the way, there may be a bit of bad news for those who will be purchasing the game on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 platforms. During the Cage Family trailer, the icons for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 appear to be missing on the April 14th release date. Furthermore, Amazon lists the release date for the last-generation consoles as June 30th. It could simply be a placeholder date, however, until the delay is officially announced. For now, keep your eyes peeled.

Mortal Kombat X is set to release on April 14 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
