Bungie Trademarks “The Taken King,” Possibly For Upcoming Destiny Expansion

Destiny developer Bungie has filed for a trademark for “The Taken King” last week, according to a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The name is presumably related to Destiny, as the “oxblood” logo beneath the title itself strikes a close resemblance to the symbol for the enemy race known as the Hive.

According to NeoGAF user Kifimbo, the attorney who filed the trademark is also responsible for filing “The Dark Below” and “House of Wolves,” the names of two previously announced expansions for Destiny.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg stated earlier that the studio has already planned a “major content release for Fall” of 2015, which this filing might pertain to. He also confirmed a “very robust pipeline plan after that.”

It was previously rumored that a major Destiny expansion called “Comet: Plague of Darkness” was planned for a September launch with additional DLC packs to follow.

Bungie plans to reveal new content for Destiny’s upcoming House of Wolves expansion at 11AM Pacific today on the studio’s official Twitch.tv channel. A short teaser was released yesterday.

With the House of Wolves DLC out in the hands of players by this May 19, it’s possible we’ll soon here more about Bungie’s future plans for Destiny.
