Call of Duty Announces ‘Major Community Event’ This Fall, COD 2016 Gameplay Will Be At E3

Call of Duty celebrations are ramping up this year as Activision sets out an exciting roadmap leading up to E3 2016 and beyond.

The publisher announced its future Call of Duty plans in a blog post earlier today, citing last January as the month with the highest number of Call of Duty players ever recorded.

Unsurprisingly, Infinity Ward, who recently announced their return to an “innovative” new Call of Duty project in 2016, will have something to show at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. While Call of Duty 2016 will get its time in the spotlight during gaming’s most exciting week of the year, Activision revealed that they will not have a booth on the E3 show floor.

“In June, we’re going to be at E3 showcasing gameplay from Infinity Ward’s ambitious new game. We’re looking forward to sharing exciting new details about the next great Call of Duty game in partnership with our friends at PlayStation. We’re proud to be participating in this premier video game event, but won’t have an Activision booth on the show floor.

Meanwhile, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is, of course, headed to the Call of Duty Championship, a $3 million global tournament, later in the year. Interestingly, Activision’s blog also makes mention of a “major community event” that will give fans “insight and access to the world of Call of Duty.”

“We’re also going to be celebrating the community this fall at the Call of Duty Championship, marking the epic conclusion of the first season of the Call of Duty World League, and holding a major community event that will give fans special insight and access to the world of Call of Duty.”

Activision says fans ‘shouldn’t be surprised to find them in some other unexpected places as well.’

In 2011, Activision and Infinity Ward, along with Sledgehammer Games, hosted the one-time-only Call of Duty Experience (COD XP) that celebrated the coming launch of Modern Warfare 3. Could a similar community event return for Infinity Ward’s next title?

Keep your sights on MP1st for more Call of Duty updates.
