Black Ops 2: Be A Better Teammate

With the latest entry in the COD franchise just days old, YouTube has been flooded with how-to videos telling people about ranking up fast, getting scorestreaks easily, and having a better K/D.  As a long time gamer and lover of playing the objective, I feel like it is my duty to offer a different perspective.

Don’t get me wrong, I have a deep appreciation for guys like TmarTn and WoodysGamertag, their videos are what inspired me to start my own channel.  Additionally, they are by far some of the most respectable COD commentators around.  My goal isn’t to replace them or denounce their content, it’s simply to fill the void.  Not everyone is interested in being the best teammate they can be and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to do well on your own.  But as a competitive COD player I want more than to just do well and have a high K/D, I want to win.  I want to beat strong teams not just by myself, but with my friends.  Hopefully the passion and expertise I have shows through in this video.  More importantly, however, I hope it helps you be the best teammate you can be.

I have several more “Be a Better Teammate” videos planned and would greatly appreciate your feedback to shape the series into something really worth watching.  Please let me know what you think in the comments.

Happy PTFOing and thank you for watching.

  • Niosus

This is great! Definitely keep making these!

    • BOSS jediZOHAN

      Will do. Thank you!

  • rubbish

At least it is more accurate than Tmartn’s rank up fast video. There are so many incorrect facts in that video.

    • BOSS jediZOHAN

I think he has to sacrifice a lot of fact-checking because his obligation is to be the fastest source of information. He’s very good at making tips videos, but so are a lot of other people.

  • Retro

I’ve been critical of all of your articles, but I have to give you props for this video. Well done.

    • BOSS jediZOHAN

Thank you for keeping an open mind.

  • Theres a differance between camping & defending.

    • Joe

No there isn’t. You don’t have to clip in a corner or lay prone to defend an objective.

      • Really? Let the dislikes rain down for your ignorance.

        • Joe

Like I give a flying fuck about likes/dislikes on Disqus… Talk about ignorance. Go hide in a corner, you fucking scared little scrub.

      • You don’t have to stand out in the open inviting bullet fire either. Flashbang before entering a room and you take care of the people laying down or crouched in a corner.

    • where is the different between them?

  • pro rusher

camping is fine in OBJ based games; its when you are in FFA or deathmatch that camping makes you look like a cowardly pu##sy.

    • It’s not actually camping if you’re playing the objective.

      • Voice of Reason

That would be what logical people call “Defense”

      • DanDustEmOff

U can’t camp and play the objective u play the objective or camp the objective camping the objective is not the same as playing it

    • DanDustEmOff

In ffa and death match the objective is to get kills locking down a high traffic area of the map is perfectly acceptable sitting in a corner watching a flag or bomb site however is cowardly and requires little to no skill especially playing with a team of good players

  • David

Team mates and cod don’t mix. Not to the level of battlefield and MOH, theres just too much emphasis on K/D take it out of the game/score menu and people will play as a team

    • fuinniest thing ever

    • Anon

IDK about Warfighter but BF3 has always been plagued with shit teams… I’ve heard earlier BF games were much better in terms of teams working together though.

      • Joe

BF randoms are just as bad as cod randoms, the only people who say otherwise are BF fanboys. Play any BF game solo & enjoy the 3 useless sniping campers you’ll get in your squad. I’m not saying one game is better than the other, people should play whichever they like, but shitty randoms is not an epidemic exclusive to cod.

        • GoMonkey66

Some randoms actually play objectives in BF3 but the ones that don’t, ie: the “true campers” are so aggravating it is ridiculous. I mean the guy that is going to lay on the floor in a corner nowhere near an objective, balls deep in the wall, with his silenced LMG waiting for someone to run past. You know the guy…the one with 10,000 kills with one gun, an SPM under 150, and a W/L of .10. In BF though, I don’t mind people that are actually good at things that help the team and DON’T ptfo, like great tankers or pilots. But I feel ya…it always seems that when not playing with a group of friends that understand how to win I always get stuck on the team of people tat are content to snipe from their base while full-capped and drag out the ticket bleed by being complete pussies. It’s one of the reasons why I can’t play on a server that I’m not an admin on. It isn’t that I want to stack things in my favor, it’s so that we can keep the server full of people that actually TRY to win. More often than not, I’m kicking and rebalancing the whole time, and leaving my team short-handed. If we full-cap, I will swap sides to the losing team with our friends, and fight back to a full-cap the other way simply to keep the game interesting.

Having played a bunch of both COD and BF, I don’ tthink it’s that “team mates and COD don’t mix”. it just comes down to the pacing of the game…COD is all action all the time on tiny maps, but BF is much larger maps and options that cater to different playstyles and tactics. On a large map with vehicles, you have the time to plan a route, to decide which flag to take, who is going to play what role, etc. Also, perks and streaks in COD benefit you as a player, rarely are they things that help the team (except UAVs)…there is no class specialization or skills that you could take advantage of to be a better team mate. Communication is also different. In BF you could call out an enemy or describe what you see, but in COD you just don’t have time. At the most, you could say “blue room”, before your info is outdated and useless. It doesn’t mean you CAN’T use tactics and team play in a COD game, it just means you need to be solid on it before you dive into a round. But even then, the best planned strategies can fall apart quickly once the game starts because COD is a much more fluid and dynamic fight. I’m not saying one game o another is better or worse, they are just apples and oranges. The similarities are multiplayer gun battles, that’s about it.

  • Smelly, ugly and fat wife: Be a better husband!

  • jonchr2

good video. I hate campers that just camps. without any objective in sight. they may kill u once, but you are retarded NOT to just throw a grenade or tactical grenade at him.

  • Alex, what do you record with?

    • BOSS jediZOHAN

      The Elgato Game Capture HD

  • sgt_mofo

Put this video at the forefront of your resumé. Big strides in production value and cohesion in this one. Keep’em comin.

    • BOSS jediZOHAN

      Thank you!

  • WarHero

It’s hard to win games for me and I am an objective player but the majority of the players of CoD is in it for K/D. It’s really unfortunate that 90% of the time I feel like I am the only one supporting the team. I really wished K/D would only be affected by playing Deathmatch Modes.

    • StealthShot24

Completely AGREE! My tdm kd is very good but not domination, because i play the objective. Some of the funnest games I have is with a full party of friends on DOM where we constantly jump on flags to win a close game the goes to the last seconds.

K/D doesnt show anything in MW3 or BO2, as the TDM or FFA k/d does. Idk how many people i saw with horrible TDM k/d’s but their overall is high because they kill whore in DOM or infected.

It would DEFINITELY encourage PTFO in DOM if you removed overall K/D from it.

    • BOSS jediZOHAN

K/D has nothing to do with winning in OBJ-based games. I second your opinion,

      • DanDustEmOff

I third a cap ratio would be a better suited stat

    • agreed

  • Joe

You appreciate Woodysgamertag? Why? The dude is one of the biggest pieces of shit in the world — not just in gaming. He prestige hacked & charged people money (with Wingsofredemption) to get in hacked lobbies in MW2, he’s threatened to fight people who call him out, he charged a teenager over a grand for a shoutout, etc. Woody is a fucking piece of dogshit. Fuck that dude & fuck his apathetic minions.

    • trepicz

I have never heard about anything like that and I’ve been watching the YouTube gaming community for over 3 years

      • Joe

Can’t have followed too closely then.

    • BOSS jediZOHAN

Firstly, who didn’t prestige hack in MW2? If he charged people to do it, they’re idiots for paying. As for threatening to fight people, he didn’t threaten obviouslyjesus, he invited him to own up to the absurd shit he said and threatened his family with. Additionally, when obviouslyjesus backed down, woody let it go. As for charging someone for a shout out, do you have any idea what kind of exposure woody’s channel offers? If I could pay a thousand bucks to gain thousands of subs, I probably would.

I’m not excusing Woody’s mistakes or bad behavior. Personally, I think he’s a chauvinistic jackass, but I’m not going to say fuck you to him because I don’t think either of us know him well enough to come to any real conclusions about who he is.

  • what a ridiculous article.

    • BOSS jediZOHAN

What’s so absurd about using my skills and exposure to help players be the best teammates they can be?

    • Dirtknap

Your comment makes no sense, you’ll have to make a far more constructive argument than that. Come back when you can cobble an actual, informed opinion together.

  • do you really hoping that CoD player will ever play as a teammate and play the objective … that won’t happen at all

  • the specialist

my can’t say to anyone how to play.players play the game as they want.i think that’s the right thing to do.

  • The comments on this article remind me why I bought halo…

  • I feel like you’ve make some assumptions about guns in this game that haven’t actually proven to be true. Like the concept that semi-auto or burst rifles have the best effectiveness at range. This WOULD be the case, but unfortunately poor hit registration/lag comp causes a scenario where these weapons are not 100% reliable to produce the same effects from lobby to lobby (even on a four-bar latency) once the game is on the Internet. Even some full auto rifles become unreliable for this same reason. Thus, the most effect weapons at range are more likely to be those that can dole out more possible hits: hire fire rate rifles like the MTAR or Type 25, or even the PDW SMG thanks to super low recoil and great range. For extended long ranges, I agree you cannot beat LMGs or snipers.
But, for shorter ranges full auto ARs cannot compare to SMGs and do not combine the effectiveness of an SMG at that range unless you slap a laser sight on the beeyotch and fire it from the hip. Some ARs do not even respond well to this and are simply unreliable at shorter ranges due to hit reg/lag comp yet again. I find in close encounters, I want to be using an SMG with a laser, or I want to have fast hands available to pull out the Remington 870 (a shotgun which unfortunately at point blank range can also be FUBARed by hit reg/lag comp issues).

  • Brezzyboss (PSN)

Great explanation regarding play types. I played PSN since PS2 with COD3, and never considered what type of player I am. I know how I play, but never thought more deeply into it, the way you explained. I’m a TDM player, and I’m a rusher that rarely sprints. I normally walk or crouch walk.

  • Great vid… one thing I would like to say the fal with a tf and sf are an amazing combo… the stopping power of a auto and the acurracy of a semi auto…
