Black Ops 2 – Xbox 360 and PS3 Patch Improves Multiplayer and Zombies

Treyarch has deployed a brand new patch for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 today looking at number of multiplayer and zombies issues with a few feature improvements along the way.

The update will set you back about 39 MB in hard drive space. Check out the full notes below:

Feature Improvements

  • Party Members now appear on the mini map as purple when colorblind assist is turned on.
  • Added hint text tool tips for map voter buttons.

Multiplayer Issues Addressed

  • Resolved a known issue with stats resets caused by a failed save process, indicated by receiving a “Persistent Rank Data has been corrupted” error message. Further information can be found here on the Customer Support site.
  • Fixed an issue where players could lose functionality and have a blurry screen after viewing a Gamer Card during the round-ending killcam at the end of the first round of a round-based game.
  • Addressed an exploit where players could gain XP privately without matchmaking.
  • Addressed an issue where the player’s EMP grenade blast would cancel out the effects of an enemy’s EMP.
  • Players will no longer fly into the air when knife lunging other players on certain types of inclines.
  • Addressed multiple exploits where players could clip into and shoot from within certain areas on Downhill.
  • Fixed an issue with the Skulls Camo Challenge for the RPG unlocking by using other weapons in conjunction with the RPG.
  • Addressed an issue with taking control of an AGR while next to a friendly player causing loss of functionality for firing rockets.
  • Resolved an issue where spectating would default to 3rd person even though it had been disabled if the player was previously spectating in 3rd person.
  • Resolved an issue with dog spawns in Slums.
  • Fixed an issue joining Split Screen bot games in-progress when the host had altered party privacy settings.
  • Addressed an issue where players could not link their Twitch account in the Multiplayer Party Lobby Options menu.
  • Fixed an issue where the player may not die by the train running over them in Express.
  • Players in a Split Screen game can no longer access the MP Pause Menu during the round ending killcam, the final killcam, or after the game has ended.
  • Addressed an issue in the Split Screen Pause Menu where the Game Mode below the map was being cut off.
  • The System Link/LAN Party server list now sorts the available games by Host name.
  • Players can no longer set their Clan Tag in non-Public Match lobbies if they haven’t reached the unlock level for the Clan Tag feature.
  • Addressed an issue where the Expert Challenge Calling Card was not appearing for the Peacekeeper in the Combat Record after completing all the Peacekeeper challenges.
  • Players with Level 1 profiles will now see their XP bonus in the After Action Report after a League Play match.
  • Resolved an issue where the damage feedback sound was not occurring for the Combat Axe or cluster bomb from the Hellstorm Missile.
  • Addressed an issue where the UAV Scorestreak was not being called in for Multi-Team Hardcore matches.
  • Addressed an issue where the mini map for tablet Scorestreaks would not appear on the tablet under certain round transition conditions.
  • Resolved an issue with care packages bouncing unusually high.
  • Fixed an issue where players could not accept invites from the Xbox 360 Dashboard.
  • Addressed an issue where players with the Riot Shield could survive dog attacks while prone with the Riot Shield on their back.
  • Rapidly pressing the Swap Weapons button no longer inverts the player model’s left hand with the M8A1 equipped.
  • Resolved an issue where the lobby score for the winner of a Gun Game match didn’t match the ending score of the match.
  • Addressed an issue during rewind in Theater Mode where the waves in Hydro were jittering while the flood is occurring.
  • Fixed an issue in Downhill with the light effects on the gondolas not appearing after a Host Migration or round change.
  • Players can no longer get out of the map in Downhill by going prone and getting run over by the gondola in the station.
  • Dead bodies no longer float if the player dives to prone into a gondola just before getting hit by it.
  • Players can now earn the Thief Challenge if they use Black Hat to steal an enemy care package.
  • Resolved an issue where the Equipment statistics for the Smoke Grenade were not accurately reflecting in the Combat Record what was achieved in game.
  • Fixed an issue in Mirage where players could fall outside the map by diving to prone through a section of door on the Southeast side of the map.
  • Addressed an issue where players could get on top of a tent in Grind.
  • Fixed an issue in Grind where the player could see outside of the map.
  • Addressed exploits where the Dragonfire could get under the map in Mirage and Hydro.

Gameplay Balancing

  • Reduced the red flash damage indicator when using the Toughness Perk.
  • Reduced Guardian damage in Hardcore modes.

Zombies Issues Addressed

  • Addressed an issue where the players could not access the in game store.
  • Addressed a long black screen issue while players watch the Intro Zombies movie when loading System Link / LAN Party games.
  • Players will no longer be seen clipping into the concrete when sliding from the Green to Orange building in Theater Mode on Die Rise.
  • Fixed an issue in Zombies Theater Mode where the Who’s Who swirly vision can be seen for players who are not in the mode when switching from players who are.
  • Addressed an issue for Split Screen users on Turned Diner in Theater Mode where the eye glow was missing from zombies when viewed in third person and jumping to start.
  • Disappearing fog addressed in Theater Mode when flying through the laboratory in Tranzit.
  • Fixed a spawn issue for players in Die Rise that spawn on top of the escape pod after a host migration in a 2+ player game.
  • Players will no longer be given momentary control of a character before being put into spectator mode when Hot Joining a Custom Game on Nuketown.
  • Addressed an issue where players had in-game functionality during the loading countdown timer on Tranzit if a Host Migration occurred during the first 5 seconds of a game.
  • Player names will now appear above players when in spectate mode upon hot joining a custom Grief game mode.
  • Fixed an issue where Zombies were not spawning in after a Host Migration in a Bus Depot standard match.
  • Addressed issue where Sliquifier would create too many slippery spots.
  • Addressed an issue in Turned where Zombie vision would disappear after several host migrations occurred.
  • Addressed an issue where the players controller would vibrate for a long duration after the player hot joined a game of Tranzit
  • Resolved several instances in Die Rise where players could jump above a barricades and avoid Zombie attacks.
  • Resolved several instances in Die Rise where players could hide in objects in the world and avoid Zombie attacks.
  • Addressed several locations where players can survive a landing in unplayable space.
  • Fixed an issue in Die Rise where Zombies could not path to players depending on Tramplesteam positioning
  • Fixed an issue where users could not play the game in offline mode.
  • Players will now hear announcer dialogue in the Turned game mode.
  • Addressed an issue where players are able to start a game of turned with only one player.
  • Resolved several instances where players could avoid Zombie attacks by hiding in objects around Tranzit
  • Addressed an issue with taking screenshots in Theater mode
  • Addressed issues with the Buildables system
  • Addressed issues where players would say the wrong dialogue
  • Addressed several issues in Die Rise where Zombies had trouble pathing to players.

      Exactly. ALL the issues that people complain about have not been addressed. How about sorting out lag comp and connection? No, we’ll fiddle with the stuff that 99% of players don’t ever notice.

      well tbh honest fixing lag might not be that easy because its P2P. now if it was server based than i can see most of these issues disappearing. That said i assume due to the wide amount of people who play its hard to fix something that may not be broken for others but fixing it for those who have problems may cause those who didn’t have problems to well have problems….

      But there are some things you can try i guess. Like not having shared internet(if you have to share) well try and play when another person isn’t downloading things , don’t run your internet via WiFi for cod, possibly have/get better internet that may help or ask ISP to fix any issues your net may have, etc. but these are are some ways to help,

      Personally it runs fine for me but either I’m the lucky few or majority not really sure

    Yes, but can they make the game even remotely playable for anyone who does not like running around like a chicken with its head cut off? This game could be fun for me, if tactics was a word you could use in it. Ill have to stick to Arma and BF series until Activision realizes not everyone who plays is 12 years old.

        while i laugh at your complete lack of understanding about what BF is all about, I can only feel sorry for your console experience of 12 players per team… if you werent a child whose welfare parents cant afford a PC then you would know that a 64 player infantry game of RUSH on Damavand Peak isnt exactly “slow paced”

          Also 64 player servers are nice but for me infantry isnt as smooth as cods is but then again BF3 has been balanced in general around vehicle play so not really infantry on infantry play. And I do play BF3 on PC so don’t say I’m a console kiddy crap.Have to say i prefer Cod since i prefer more action packed and back into the fight then BF3 wait 10 seconds for spawn or get medic revive to die by the guy who just killed you 2 seconds ago. Not saying CoD is better since BF3 does sound/visuals/atmosphere of war/vehicles/variety of map/destruction in maps and more weapons which is way better than CoD in that regard. But for me Cod makes you feel like your a god of war in human form/more camos for guns/streaks and having more modes. Comes down to preference really. But i feel i interact with randoms alot better in CoD 12-18 player games than in BF3 64 player servers.

          Then again cant really compare these 2 since CoD is arcade like and BF3 is less arcadey. Also stop with the PC elitism crap its stupid and I am primarily a PC gamer.

    • Well i’m not sure about console kiddies, but the top pub stompers use strategy. I play mostly HC ctf on PC, it’s faced paced and spawns aren’t random so it’s enjoyable. The biggest thing is lane control and spawn containment, you “trap” the other time on a side cover your crosses and you’re set.

      I can’t even play BO2 anymore — every time I load it up, the game freezes requiring a hard reboot (and then PS3 automatically runs through the rebooting process, telling me that the system wasn’t shut down correctly, looks for corrupted files, etc. — a 10 minute process). Other games are fine. There’s something seriously wrong with BO2 even on my new PS3 system with all updates. According to the forums for this issue, tens of thousands of gamers are searching for answers to this problem. Out of precaution of not wanting it to harm my system, it looks like BO2 is going back in the box until some serious patches are released.

  • Wow… just wow. So we may still miss 50% of all our shots due to bad hit registration, but GOD BLESS AMERICA we can use TWITCH.TV again. DAMMIT this game would be the BEST COD EVER if they’d just fix the technical issues FIRST.

        its because COD uses the same netcode from COD2 when most players had 512kbps connections, why do you think the game shows your connection in bars instead of displaying your actual ping?


        4 bars: 0-200 ms UNPLAYABLE

        3 bars: 201-400 UNPLAYABLE

        2 bars: 401-600 UNPLAYABLE

        1 bar: 601-800 UNPLAYABLE

        this is why this game is fucking shit, because people are connected to games with ridiculously high ping times, then lag compensation punishes everyone else… in todays world the MAX latency for ANY game should be 150ms.. which IMO is still unplayable

      You realize network stability and hit detection are two core fundamentals for any shooter, right? Resolving these issues need to be the absolute top priority. Difficulty level aside, we at least deserve acknowledgement of said issues, we would at least know that Treyarch are working on a fix.

I was hoping in the back of my mind “Maybe they’ll address it next patch and if it’s true I’ll might buy it again” CoD forums is filled with complaints about lag but Treyarch says “Fuck that we’ll fix other stuff instead.”

    Give the snipers more recoil when scoped in and more sway.

    • The sniper should be the most feared weapon inthe game, it’s not. It should be like “OH shit!!! Sniper left side we need smoke or sometin. Wish me luck i’m going in!” Instead its like “meh… 360 dive lazer smg spray hs…take that noob! *insert tea bag here*” From a hardcore players perspective on PC, the b23r makes a better sniper. They should reduce sway and scope in time for hardcore for a purely balance issue. M1216 could use a boost too

    I’m really interested to see just how angry people will get over Treyarch’s refusal to acknowledge the lag/connection/hit detection issues. I would LOVE to see an organized blackout (didn’t the BF community do this?). I still enjoy this game, and I’ve been a “cod guy ” for years now, but I’ll be looking for a different FPS when PS4 rolls around.*

    *Unless COD on ps4 looks absolutely amazing haha

    You guys are idiots… they can’t just FIX lag comp… they don’t have dedicated servers. lag comp has been in every COD. If you have a better connection you don’t get the basic lag only lag comp. Either fix your own internet or quit complaining…

    I have 13 days played (some straight up looser shit) on this game and I just deal with it. There will be good days and bad. If you’re suffering from “bad connection”, find a new lobby. If you get into 4 shit lobbies in a row, hang it up for the day and play something else. My friends and I’ve been playing lots of Multi-Team lately as we seem to have much more fun. 3 reasons for this. 1.) The maps are less cluttered since there are only 9 players total. 2.) Its much easier to party up and coordinate 3 people. 3.) This last one is pure speculation, but the connection seems to be better since less people are in this game mode. For other game modes I seem to have better connections in the morning. I pretty much avoid this game at peak times like evenings and weekends. I feel like that’s when I get smashed with lag comp (mystery 4 bar lag comp) much more. We probably won’t see an improvement until the next generation of consoles are released. Thankfully, they’re only months away….. We will just have to wait and see.

    If tonight’s gameplay on PS3 is an indication, this patch has seemingly done the impossible: made the lag worse.

    I played for roughly 3 hours and experienced maybe 10 lag-free firefights (not games, gun battles). Shit is ridiculous. I’m practically choking with disgust right now. Oh new maps on the 28th? I’m already cringing while thinking about the shit storm that will bring upon the servers. Seriously, the cod community needs to organize a blackout.

    I never had so much bad lag in a cod game. not even mw3’s lag was this terrible. thou I heard that ps3 has worst lag than 360 ( which is where I had bo2 for ). they really need to do something about this. I even upgraded my internet connection but instead of improving my connection, it made it even worst! lol.. maybe it’s a sign that i should just give up on cod..

    COD is dead to me at this point, I don’t even remember seeing lag talk back in MW2 and COD4 days, oh that’s right, the original creators of COD multiplayer left activision. This is probably why these games feel off sync.
