Call of Duty Elite Shuts Down This Friday, Members Get Double XP

As of this Friday, February 28 at approximately 10am PST, Call of Duty Elite’s services will officially shut down.

The service that was first introduced near the end of Call of Duty: Black Ops’ life cycle went on to heavily support Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in 2011. With minimal support from Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, the service was eventually phased out and replaced by the official Call of Duty App in tandem with the release of Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts in 2013.

To commemorate Call of Duty Elite’s retirement this Friday, Activision is offering two hours of Call of Duty: Ghosts Double XP to any one who has logged into the service since January 1, 2014. According to the company, the bonus Double XP will show up in your Call of Duty: Ghosts profile “soon”.

Aw poor baby. I just love how they spend so much money and time for this.

  • dieger

Funny thing is is that this is better then the current one

    • Jason Lane

      100% agreed .

  • MegaMan3k

If COD Elite had a historian feature like Better Battlelog, I might miss it.

  • Leon

How generous of them. The whole two hours of double XP! CoD Elite must have been a really important undertaking to celebrate its retirement in such a lavish way. I will never know, as I was never able to use it on PC.

If they didn’t offer double XP you’d complain about that too.

      • Leon

And if I didn’t complain you wouldn’t have the opportunity to complain about me complaining. Try to appreciate this opportunity I created for you so you could feel better.

Didn’t sound like he was complaining about you complaining.. But anyways.

At the time of Black Ops 1, Elite made sense. Players were crazy about the tracking of their overall COD stats. Unfortunately, people’s obsession with their performance in gaming didn’t last very long as the shift from competitive games to casual games took hold.

    • Jason Lane

Yea it’s a shame competitive gaming is no longer a thing. I guess all the E-Sport stuff that’s been exploding over the last couple of years is just a figment of our imaginations 🙁

Thank god.. Worst service I’ve ever spent money on and the overall layout of the site was horrible. Looked ugly and loaded slow. Something I won’t be missing when Treyarch’s next CoD rolls around.

I haven’t read this yet, PLEASE ADD: I just went into Black Ops II (trying to unlock Elite Backgrounds for Ghosts on PS4 because they’re still LOCKED) and found I got the Elite Premium Founder Emblem + Calling Card for free! I went into Elite this morning because I didn’t remember if I had already went on Elite since Jan. 1st 2014. Btw, didn’t get the Founder title+emblem in MW3 🙁

  • IceKoldKilla

OK good I guess but please, I got Ghosts on Monday for PS4 (yes I like it unlike 90% of you. I know. Respect my opinions.) and still after playing a game of BO2 and MW3 on PS3, still no backgrounds unlocked under Elite Backgrounds in Ghosts. I’m top rank and Prestige on both MW3 (Prestige 20 Rank 80) and BO2 (Master Prestige). Activision Support page always gives me an error when trying to get into a Live Chat Support room and the Facebook page told me to play a couple of games on MW3 and BO2 and try again. I’ll wait 48 hours then complain more. I already tried the CoD Forums but I only got a reply asking if it was the same PSN account. And yes, since 2007 -_-
