Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Brings Entire Gears Collection To Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Program

The Coalition announced today that the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, launching this August 25, will let fans re-live the entire saga on Xbox One with a backwards compatible Gears Collection that includes every game in the series.

No, not all titles are getting the same Xbox One makeover the original Gears game is, but anyone who plays the Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live between August 25 and December 3 of this year will receive free tokens to download the Xbox 360 collection to play on Xbox One some time this fall. The collection includes the original Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and Gears of War: Judgment. Eligible recipients must be 17 years of age or older.

The Coalition says more details are to come in the future, but for now, Xbox One users can get the full details on Xbox 360 backwards compatibility here.

UPDATE: According to Xbox’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb, Xbox One Preview members who already own the original Gears of War on Xbox 360 can play it on Xbox One starting today.

Along with the news, the studio also supplied Gears fans with a new behind-the-scenes video that showcases how developers are giving those classic Gears characters you know and love new life on a new generation of hardware. You can check out the progress in the video below:
