Grand Theft Auto 5 Delay Explained – Rockstar Wants It “To Be As Good As It Needs To Be”

Last Thursday, Rockstar announced the unfortunate delay of Grand Theft Auto 5, now releasing September 17, instead of the originally intended release time frame of Spring 2013.

In an update on the official site, the team explained the decision, stating that “unfortunately sometimes such delays are necessary in all forms of entertainment, and especially in the case of a game experience as massive and complex as GTAV.”

“Those of you saying or seeing various conspiracy theories about there being some other ulterior motive for this delay, rest assured that they’re all nonsense,” the post continued to read, dispelling all rumors floating about as of late. “Literally the only reason we’ve delayed the release is because we want the game to be as good as it needs to be.”

Lastly, the post also briefly mentioned the anticipated reveal of the official GTA V box art, which will now “be coming out a bit later as well.”

Keep your sights locked on MP1st for more GTA V news!

Thanks, IGN.

  • this is what they always say……and it always comes out AWESOME.

  • it’s GTA.. GTA is worth waiting for.

  • Wish more developers did this, don’t release a crap game and then try to patch it 6 months later.

    • Casavult

      *cough* DICE *cough*

I really wish other devs/publishers thought like this instead of rushing games out every year.

  • GTA is a cancer to gaming. Its for the scum of the gaming world! Feel free to get mad bros.

    • Hol_Up

Yeah, I’m totally mad about an opinion over a video game, bro.

    • I agree with you. Have an up. GTA is an escapists game, pure and simple. The industry needs to bring back more inventive challenges instead of cinematic immersion. I’m getting sick of playing CG movies.

This is the same reason I didn’t like Metal Gear Solid 4. It was more of a movie than a game. Devs are just padding their games with cutscenes instead of making fun, playable experiences. And most of the ones that are playable are barely that and terrible as well (Crysis 2, BF3, RE 5 and 6, etc.).

        • roland0811

But props to Rockstar for wanting to release a FINISHED and polished game. EA and a lot of other publishers should pay attention.

      • And you’re looking at this article why?

        • Because I am concerned about the direction of the entire industry. I’m a gamer who is faced with the possibility that there may be no new games coming out – ever – that interest me.

          • CaptainCaskey

            Perhaps you’re too picky?

  • I hope so !!

  • Mogwai Warrior

I would imagine all developers would do this, it’s probably the publishers who rush it out the door and since Rockstar is both they are one of the few who can.

  • Zwabber046

probably won’t buy it when it releases, probably wait until it gets a version for ps4

  • Bladeshiner

Would have loved to get this right before summer, but I guess it will be worth the wait.
