PS4 Firmware 2.0 ‘Masamune’ Available October 28

Sony’s massive firmware update ‘Masamune’, originally slated for this Fall, has an official release date of October 28th.

Last week, Playstaion’s Official Blog revealed specifics about what would be included. Users can expect to see oft requested features such as an official YouTube app and Themes in addition to Share Play, the much ballyhooed option from Sony which was first on display during E3 2013. Share Play will allow gamers to give control of their game to a friend remotely in addition to joining their session for co-operative action. This feature will have a time limit, so don’t expect to 100% any of your friends game library.

Another big addition is the return of the USB Music Player. Users now have a reason to dust off their multi-terabyte HDD’s filled with music as your PS4 can now play custom soundtracks without needing a subscription to Sony’s Music Unlimited. (Side Note: It appears custom MP3 support is limited to external storage as there is no officially supported way of playing them of the PS4’s HDD).

You can check out the full details over at the Official Playstation Blog. Any of the additions catch your eye? Let us know in the comments below!
