While we already know that Red Dead Redemption 2 multiplayer is indeed coming to the game, we’re mostly left in the dark about it — at least until today. Rockstar Games has announced the first details for Red Dead Online, which is, as you guessed it, Red Dead Redemption 2’s multiplayer component!
According to Rockstar, Red Dead Online is a “new online connected experience set against the backdrop of Red Dead Redemption 2’s enormous open world.” It will feature both co-op and competitive gameplay and is “an evolution” of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption. And as expected, it’s a games-as-a-service model, with Rockstar stating it will “feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.”
Rockstar has also confirmed that there will be a public beta sometime in November 2018! The studio is already expecting “turbulence at launch” given the multiplayer mode’s size and scale. As is the case with Grand Theft Auto V, anyone with a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be able to play Red Dead Online for free on PS4 and Xbox One.
With Rockstar’s opus set to shoot out this October 26, 2018, expect more news for Red Dead Online to make its way soon.
