Respawn Says They’re Not Making Titanfall 3

While Respawn has posted job ads pertaining to what we assumed is for Titanfall 3, and Titanfall 2 fared very well critically (currently at 89 on Metacritic), it seems we won’t be getting Titanfall 3 anytime soon.

Respawn Lead Producer Drew McCoy confirmed this little factoid in a new interview with Eurogamer regarding the studio’s latest game, Apex Legends. To put it plain as day, McCoy mentions that the world thinks Respawn is making Titanfall 3, and they’re not, since Apex Legends is what they were developing instead.

“There are some people who think there are too many battle royale games or it’s a fad, the world thinks we’re making Titanfall 3 and we’re not – this is what we’re making.

“We’re doing a free to play game, with essentially loot boxes, after we were bought by EA, and it’s not Titanfall 3. It’s the perfect recipe for a marketing plan to go awry, so why have that – let’s just ship the game and let players play.” – Drew McCoy, Lead Producer Respawn Entertainment

I can’t deny that I’m sad at this latest bit of news. Titanfall 2 was/is possibly one of the best single-player and multiplayer games of the generation, and it’s sad to know that we won’t see a sequel anytime soon. Let’s hope Apex Legends is good enough to make those longing pains go away.

Apex Legends is now out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and is free-to-play.
