There Will Be Over 50 Red Dead Redemption 2 Weapons Available, Here’s How Customization Works

red dead 2 leaked gameplay

In a new blog post update by Rockstar Games, the studio has blown the door wide open when it comes to the Red Dead Redemption 2 weapons! Rockstar has revealed that there will be over 50 “unique usable weapons” in the game!

Not only that, but weapons can be customized, and there will even be different kinds of ammunition as well. In RDR2, the more a gun is used, the better it will perform, but there’s also weapon degradation which means you’ll need to constantly be mindful of the weapons you favor and have them well kept.

Shown below with their official game descriptions are the Cattleman Revolver, Volcanic Pistolc, Springfield Rifle, Sawed-Off Shotgun, and the Litchfield Repeater.

Over on the weapon customization side, players will be able to visually upgrade their weapons with new metals, woods, varnishes, and even engravings! There are, of course, performance upgrades too! New barrels, grips, sights and scopes will be in the game, and what’s more, you can even design an entirely unique weapon that “looks and handles” exactly the way the player wants it to! Each weapon in Red Dead Redemption 2 has performance variances in terms of damage, range, fire rate, accuracy, and reload speed, so it’s up to you which one you prioritize more.

Rockstar has also listed the ammo types for weapons, which can be purchased or crafted. There’s the Split Point, High Velocity and Explosive ammo types, which will come in handy depending on the situation.

For visual weapon customization, metals and engravings will be customizable per component. Players will be able to select different colors and engravings for the trigger guard, barrel, frame and more! You’ll even be able to choose from a variety of inlay metals for the engravings on each part.

It’s not just pistols and weapons, even holsters can be upgraded too! Upgraded and reinforced holsters will help against weapon degradation, while off-hand holsters will give players the ability to dual wield — which you can see in the image below.

Finally, Rockstar Games also explains the Dead Eye gameplay system in Red Dead Redemption 2, and how it’s now better than before.

Dead Eye

Dead Eye is a powerful weapon of its own, temporarily slowing down time during combat so you can pick off your enemies with more precision.

The new Dead Eye system gradually expands and becomes more sophisticated over the course of the game, from automatically selecting targets in your crosshairs, to allowing you to manually place shots on multiple targets, to being able to shoot at will in slow motion, and ultimately to pinpointing the weak spots on your enemies for even deadlier accuracy. The system grows with you and your experience and can often provide the critical edge in a life or death situation.
