Weapon of Choice – Battlefield 3 Weapon Customization

Today, on EA’s Battlefield Blog, DICE went into further detail regarding weapon customization. And let us tell you… it has us here at MP1st very excited.

The multiplayer weapon list has been released a few days ago and no new weapons have been confirmed since then. However DICE assured us that Battlefield 3 will “have well over 50 weapons”. And if over 50 weapons is not enough for you, DICE wants you to keep in mind that “each weapon in itself can be tailored to wildly differing play styles and combat roles.”

Each weapon has exactly three slots open for customization. First; there are your optics or sights, second; there is your exchangeable barrel, and third; there are your numerous under-barrel options. Optics will range from a quick acquisition holographic scope to a 4X magnification combat scope. Your barrel can be swapped out for a heavy barrel (most likely decreasing rate of fire but increasing damage) or can have a suppressor attached to it (most likely decreasing power at range, but masking your gunshots from the enemy). The under barrel attachments will range from a recoil steadying bipod or forgrip, underslung grenade launchers or shotguns, to flashlights or laser sights. “While the class and model of your weapon will determine a number of basic values (like muzzle speed, energy, and fire rate), you can always modify it to tweak it towards anything from long range to close quarters combat.” The best part about all of this is that you can change your load outs in-game, on the fly, anytime.

DICE also confirmed that “weapon accessory unlocks are received on a per weapon basis.” This means that if you want a completely blinged out SCAR-H, you’ll have to put some time and effort into using it.

Below are two examples of the same weapon, but customized to meet different situational needs.
