PlayStation 4 Tops Hardware Sales in March Despite Titanfall Launch

March was ‘supposed’ to be Titanfall month as Microsoft hoped to see a significant boost in Xbox One sales with the launch of Respawn Entertainment’s highly anticipated shooter.

While it certainly helped Microsoft move more units, Titanfall’s launch was seemingly no match for Sony and the draw of the PlayStation 4.

According to NPD, hardware sales soared 78% in the month of March, totalling $395 million, lead for the third month in a row by Sony’s PlayStation 4.

“PS4 and Xbox One continue to see success with cumulative sales of the two consoles through the first five months currently totaling more than double that of their predecessors, the PS3 and Xbox 360,” noted NPD analyst Liam Callahan.

Sony announced yesterday that the company had sold 7 million units globally to-date.

Thanks, GamesIndustry.
