Players were caught off-guard by the recent announcement of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The game seems to take a darker approach to the series while offering a reboot to the franchise itself. The developers at Infinity Ward have also stated that this game will take on a realistic and a more “morally gray world.”

In order to make the game more realistic, Infinity Ward has decided to take things to a new level by employing a “new purpose-built engine.” According to Polygon, the game studio invested in photogrammetry technology, scanning in physical objects to make the game look more realistic than ever before. This only reflects Infinity Ward’s purpose to make a much more appealing installment for single-player enthusiasts.

The new engine will also support features like ray-traced shadows, reflections, and audio; spectral rendering for night vision and thermal goggles; dynamic global illumination and reflections; and volumetric lighting. Additionally, motion blur on and muzzle flare, reloading while aiming down sights, and all-new audio tech will “illustrate how powerful these weapons feel,” according to animation director Mark Grigsby.

Infinity Ward has also stated that the game will not have any sort of Season Pass. Instead, there’s a focus on delivering free maps over the life of the game. Furthermore, the game will also support cross-play. Additionally, players will also be able to experience “an all-new cooperative play mode, featuring a collection of strategic co-op missions accessible to all skill levels that only Call of Duty can deliver.” However, there won’t be any sort of Zombies mode.

In other news, it has been confirmed that the game’s multiplayer will support up to 20 players at the same time. Not only that, but different editions have also been listed for physical and digital release. What else could Infinity Ward have in store for Call of Duty fans? Only time will tell.
