Compatible PS5 Monitors That Can Support 120fps – Updated August 2022 Edition

PS5 Monitors

In the market for a new gaming monitor that supports 120fps (frames-per-second) and works on the latest next-gen console, the PS5? Well this piece of helpful info for compatible PS5 monitors might be what you’re looking for, as it compiles a list of currently supported monitors for Sony’s next-gen console.

Reddit user Frosting_Mundane has collaborated (after first list deleted) a list of currently confirmed monitors that support 120FPS/HZ mode in supported games. Down below you’ll find the current full list (will be updated over time) of supported monitors. As a PSA, for those wondering the monitor DOES NOT need HDMI 2.1 support to be able to run titles at 120FPS. If your monitor does not have 2.1 HDMI support but can output 120fps and up, then the system should still be able to accept performance mode, though only at 1080P. You may also have to turn off freesync or adaptive sync via monitor settings. If you want to run games at native/dynamic 4K with 120fps enabled, then you will need to have a monitor with 2.1 HDMI support.

Also, if you are someone who is looking at this list because you own a Xbox Series X or S, these monitors should work with the console though require verification. Since the system has an option for force 120fps over HDMI, most monitors should work regardless. The PS5 in it’s current state seems to be having some compatibility issues with certain monitors.

Current list of games on PS5 that support 120fps and/or 120Hz August 2022

  • Apex Legends
  • Borderlands 3 – Supports 120 FPS in ‘Performance Mode’
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (our analysis of 120fps mode) – Supports 120 FPS at 1080p – Note, the option may be grayed out even after enabling performance mode. As long as it says “enabled” you will be fine. Unlike Destiny, which can be forced on or off, Cold War automatically toggles the option.
  • Call of Duty: Vanguard
  • Call of Duty: Warzone – Requires HDMI 2.1 as 120FPS comes via backwards compatibility. No native PS5 version is available.
  • Cyber Shadow
  • Destiny 2 – Supports 120FPS at 1080p in Crucible matches
  • Devil May Cry V: Special Edition – Supports 120FPS at 1080p
  • Dirt 5 – Supports 120 FPS at 1080p
  • Doom Eternal
  • F1 2021
  • F1 2022
  • Fortnite – Supports 120fps with native PS5 port
  • Ghostrunner
  • Ghostwire Tokyo – Can hit up to 120fps in High Frame-Rate mode, though not recommended until VRR support comes to PS5.
  • Jumanji: The Video Game
  • Knockout City
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered – Supports 120Hz and VRR for boosted FPS
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – Supports 120Hz and VRR for boosted FPS
  • Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom – Supports 120fps at native 4K with HDMI 2.1 support
  • Nioh Collection – Both Nioh 1, Nioh 2 and DLC for both games supports 120 FPS at 1080p
  • OlliOllie World
  • Quake
  • Rainbow Six Siege – Supports 120 FPS at 1080p, 4K with HDMI 2.1 support
  • Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart – Supports 120Hz displays with boosted FPS
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake
  • Resident Evil 3 Remake
  • Resident Evil 7
  • Rocket League
  • Rogue Company Supports 120FPS at a dynamic 4K resolution (HDMI 2.1 support, 1080P otherwise) with the native PS5 port
  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2
  • The Touryst
  • Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
  • WRC 9 – Supports 120 FPS in ‘Performance Mode’

What to do prior to testing out 120fps

Per Reddit user, tropicalthunder922, if you are having troubles with getting 120fps to work with one of the monitors on this list, be sure that the following settings are enabled/disabled and the game you are playing supports said fps.

  • Did you put your PS5 into performance mode?
  • Did you use the HDMI cable, that came with the PS5?
  • Did you start a game, that supports 120hz, like Fortnite or COD Black Ops (option grayed out but says enabled)?
  • Did you try disable/enable Freesync/Adaptive Sync

Current list of confirmed monitors that support 120fps on PS5.

Useful link: MSI has published a guide on how to enable 120FPS on both PS5 and Xbox Series X on their supported FHD monitors that you can read here: MSI 120fps PS5 monitor support

This list will be updated overtime as more monitors are tested. List last updated on 04/23/2022.

NOTE: This list is compiled from users who have tested and verified the monitors below. Unfortunately we cannot confirm whether they work or not ourselves as the list is quiet large and we simply do not have the resources to do so. If there is a monitor you are interested here, PLEASE DO ADDITIONAL RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING.

There also seems to be an issue with some monitors supporting 144hz due to how the PS5 works, sometimes the handshake between the monitor and console will fail, resulting in just 60fps support. Sony will need to release a console update in order to force 120fps like the Series X and S does.

UPDATE: With the latest PS5 update (August 14) now adding forced 120FPS, this list should be expanded on largely as displays that had issues previously are now being confirmed as working. Please stay-tuned as we compile a new list.

List last updated on 4/23/2022 with confirmation links provided.

Note, all monitors on this list have been reported as working by users. We have added an additional link for confirmation to some monitors, but if it is on the list it has been verified by other users prior.

I have the MSI Optix MAG321CQR curved gaming monitor hooked to my PS5 and it will not get 120 FPS on Fortnite and Call of duty war zone. I have changed the settings to performance mode and using the cable that came with the PS5. Meanwhile I can hook my Xbox series X to the same monitor and get 120 FPS. 🤦‍♀️

So wait a second, you make a big ass list, and then say that the only ones that say “link for confirmation” are the ones that really work, so I bought one that does’t have the link on the side. You’re telling me it was for nothing? I bought AOC 27G2

i can confirm that my >MSI Optix MAG271C < (1920×1080 curved LCD) can output 120hz in Black Ops Cold War ( option is greyed out but locked at 120hz)
add the monitor to the list so PS5 users can have a cheap monitor
also HDMI 1.4

According to reviews this is a 1.4 HDMI
In order to run Warzone in 120FPS HDMI 2.1 is required

i know but many people are running wz on hdmi 1.4 1080p 120hz. And since this monitor supports 120hz on ps5 after the update i was wondering if i should go for the ps5

jameslara

I’ve tried it, it won’t run in 120FPS (least for me) probably because its a PS4 game versus a 5. I think Euro gamer even states it needs 2.1. Because PS5 games only need 2.0 (or less) if you play 120fps at 1080P

those are graded for HDMI 2.0 i believe. Warzone requires HDMI 2.1, despite some ps5 games being able to run 120fps on 2.0. This is due to being a ps4 version
