Death Stranding File Size Revealed, Online Is Optional

The Death Stranding file size has been revealed thanks to an official package shot. Discovered on the official pre-order page for Death Stranding Limited Edition console on BestBuy.com (Courtesy of users on Discord), according to the packaging description on the bottom of the image below, the Death Stranding file size will require a minimum of 55GB. We honestly aren’t surprised by this seeing that titles have been getting bigger and bigger throughout the generation, but at least the good news is that we won’t be needing to install two separate discs like players had to do with Red Dead Redemption 2 due to size.

The nice thing from the description is that it also reiterates that the title online play is completely optional, despite the game’s director, Hideo Kojima stressing the importance of it through how connections influence the world and such. He has stated in the past that the online is optional, and it was also confirmed last month that it wouldn’t be tied behind a paywall either as PlayStation Plus won’t be required, should you choose to take part in online play.

Death Stranding is set for release this coming November 8, exclusively for the PlayStation 4. Be on the lookout for our extensive coverage when the game launches, along with a soon-to-be-released launch trailer that Kojima has been teasing for some time now.

Dumb article says modest and compares it to RDR2… take away that and MMOs on the console, its STARTING size is big and not modest at all. That is the size before any future patches…. and duh online is optional due to the fact that it is not a always online game, which means people with no internet can play, which would make it optional…the quality of this site is terrible.

Did we say modest? (Not saying that defensively, just wondering if that was used elsewhere as I don’t manage the social linkings) I know the tweet said manageable, which it is all things considering the size of other games (red was mentioned cause of the size, and the Install being more for the SP). Plus its stated as the Minimum requirement, not that the game will remain that size. Of course patches will come afterwards, but if you go out and buy the disc in the future the file size is always going to be the same pre-patch. Nothing against RDR either, but it obvious set a high requirement for Single-player install size so it will be referenced a lot. We know games like Destiny (well over 100GB), Call of Duty, and other need bigger downloads but those are mostly online focused games.

The online requirement statement is more so geared towards people who have been asking recently (discord, reddit, ect) if the online is mandatory, since Kojima been very open about making connections and the importance of it. We covered it before, it’s just a pad on statement at this point. Wouldn’t feel right to publish an article with just one line of information when we can cover more in it.
