Halo: Infinite Confirmed to Have Microtransactions, Follow Games-as-a-Service Model

Possibly to no one’s surprise, it’s now confirmed that Halo: Infinite will have microtransactions baked in. This was revealed by a recent job ad for an Online Experience Design Director that 343 Industries has posted.

According to the job’s ad description, the Online Experience Design Director role will need to do the following:

The OE Design Director will be part of the core team that defines and drives the design vision of the game while being a source of inspiration and leadership for the entire team. The ideal candidate possesses boundless imagination, a deep understanding of the game development process, the ability to ideate, combined with the skills to communicate and direct the design efforts of the team. The ideal candidate must have a great passion for games with social features, a desire to build a strong community, as well as a deep understanding of various business models found in both mobile and AAA games.

You will oversee and provide vision for multiple facets of design and its implementation. This includes: Progression in- and out-of-game; microtransactions and integration of our business plan throughout the game; and, finally, social and engagement features that encourage players to return again and again with their friends.

Another not-so-surprising news? Halo: Infinite will be built as a “games-as-a-service” title, or what some refer to as “live services” games. In the “Responsibilities” part of the job ad, it states, “Be able to adapt to the changing business and community needs that come along with being a live service.”

Of course, given Halo 5 had microtransactions as well, so Infinite following the franchise’s footsteps, and the industry trend, isn’t really that surprising.

We’re still in the dark regarding Halo: Infinite info, but we do know it’s confirmed to be Halo 6, even if there’s no official number in the title.
