Atomic Heart Update 1.006 Fires Out This May 15 (Update)

Atomic Heart update 1.006 has been released on all platforms (current-gen and last-gen) this May 16 by Mundfish. This is an unannounced title update, so don’t expect any new content given the studio has already teased the DLC as being in development.

Atomic Heart Update 1.006 Patch Notes:

Update: Mundfish has released the official patch notes for what the studio calls patch 1.6.0.0:

Patch 1.6.0.0 for Atomic Heart is rolled out and now available on PC and consoles. See the list of changes for this update below:

  • Improved dialogues (adjusted length, place/time of activation, overall amount)
  • Improved view when aiming with a modified FOV setting (hands no longer cover the scope)
  • Fixed some rare issues with saves of the game
  • Improved game stability

The official patch notes haven’t been released by the studio just yet. However, here are some of the known issues that was mentioned in the patch released last month.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SOLVING SOME ISSUES

  • We cannot guarantee or support the game if the Atomic Heart game client has been modified by any third-party software. If this happens, you should uninstall this software and reinstall the game.
  • If you encounter issues on Steam, first check the integrity of the game files as described here. This may solve the issues.
  • Updating the driver to the latest version may improve performance (NVIDIA only).

The problem with unlocking achievements has already been solved, but in some very rare cases, the following issues may occur:

  • There may be some delay in unlocking achievements on a platform that requires an Internet connection for this process;

For those whose achievements were achieved entirely on savegames before or during the Day 1 patch, there may be some issues, which can be solved as follows:

  • In case the achievements were not unlocked, even though their progress was achieved, it will be necessary to re-execute all the conditions by starting a new game.

  • In the rare case where all achievements have been obtained, but the “The Motherland Does Not Forget its Heroes” achievement has not been unlocked for achieving them all, the problem can be solved simply by starting a new game. Data will be recalculated at the launch of the new game, which will entail unlocking the achievement.

The studio has also asked fans which they’re more excited for, Photo Mode or New Game+

Once the official patch notes are out, we’ll update the article.

Layers of Fear Release Date Set for June 15

After giving the game a vague June 2023 release window in February, Bloober Team and Anshar Studios have finally revealed that the Layers of Fear release date is set for June 15. The game’s playable Steam demo, announced last week, is available now.

Bloober Team and Anshar Studios’ Layers of Fear title reimagines the 2016 and 2019 including their respective DLCs as a graphically-updated, seamless experience. The new Layers of Fear also features an original DLC chapter titled “The Final Note,” which provides an alternate retelling of the original game’s story through the eyes of the Painter’s Wife. Additionally, an original Lighthouse chapter following a new “Writer” character bridges the storylines of the two original games.

From the developers:

The series, which has left a mark on narrative-driven first-person psychological horror games, returns to tell its final spine-chilling story in Layers of Fear.. The series’ crowning work is the definitive way to experience the critically acclaimed franchise as it features Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2, as well as all DLCs (including the new ‘The Final Note’ DLC that will give you a new perspective on the Layers of Fear storyline) and the never-before-told story of The Writer, which will tie everything together. Built on Unreal Engine 5, Layers of Fear supports Ray Tracing, HDR and 4K resolution to make the stunning visuals, and your nightmarish experience, as immersive and realistic as possible.

Layers of Fear will release June 15, 2023, on PC (through Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The playable Steam demo as well as an official commentary walkthrough from the developers can be found here.

Microsoft-Activision Deal Approved in the EU

The European Commission has now cleared the Microsoft-Activision deal in the EU region, providing Microsoft a much-needed win after its troubles in the UK and Redfall’s poorly-received launch. Having found that the deal was unlikely to harm console gaming competition in the region but could pose a risk to cloud gaming competition, the Commission believes that Microsoft’s proposed remedies for the matter are satisfactory, and has cleared the acquisition dependent on the Redmond corporation’s full compliance with its commitments.

Following a lengthy, turbulent review process in the UK, the nation’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) blocked the Microsoft-Activision deal on the basis of unresolved cloud gaming concerns. In the EU, however, Microsoft seems to have successfully addressed regulators’ concerns in the market. Like the CMA, the European Commission ultimately found that the deal did not pose any significant harm to console gaming competition in the EU, believing that Microsoft simply did not have the incentive to withhold Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard IPs from PlayStation and other competitors, and could not harm competition even if it chose to do so owing to lesser demand for Activision’s games in the region.

Instead, the Commission found that the deal posed a much greater potential danger to cloud gaming competition in the region, as bringing Activision Blizzard IPs to cloud gaming services would significantly promote growth for the fledgling medium, but could also harm rival services were Microsoft to make Call of Duty and the like exclusive to Xbox Game Pass. Additionally, Microsoft could also choose to harm Windows’ competitors by worsening the playability of Activision games through the cloud on rival operating systems.

Where the Commission diverges from the CMA is in its reception of Microsoft’s proposed remedies for the matter. The regulator found that Microsoft’s 10-year offer to provide a free license to EEA consumers to play any Activision Blizzard games they own through any cloud streaming service of their choice (in the case of BYOG services) and a corresponding free license to such providers to allow EEA consumers to stream Activision games through their services fully deals with its reservations. In fact, the Commission states that such an arrangement would “represent a significant improvement for cloud game streaming compared to the current situation,” given that Activision Blizzard and its games currently have no presence in the cloud gaming market.

Microsoft and Activision are currently preparing to appeal the CMA’s decision in the UK, while verdicts on the acquisition in the US and China are still awaited. Stay tuned here at MP1st for all upcoming news and announcements about the Microsoft-Activision deal.

Report: Resident Evil 4 Remake Uses 4 DRMs

Though temporarily successful in halting piracy, Digital Rights Management (DRM) tech is seen largely by the gaming community as counterintuitive and harmful to the quality and performance of any title it is utilized in. An analysis of the recently-released Resident Evil 4 remake has reportedly revealed that it uses four different DRM solutions, which quite likely put a significant dent in the game’s performance.

In recent years, developers’ usage of increasingly powerful DRM programs to safeguard their games against piracy has been the source of much controversy, with gamers routinely pointing out the difference in performance numbers between the official titles and pirated releases with DRM either disabled or removed altogether. While we at MP1st largely abstain from reporting on developments in the piracy scene, we feel that such information about the negative effects of DRM and other anti-piracy measures on games is valuable to fans and their investment in quality video games.

A prominent video game cracker within the scene has managed to crack the Resident Evil 4 remake, and has reportedly found that besides Denuvo V18, the title also uses Denuvo SecureDLC V2, an in-house Anti-Tamper solution, and VMProtect. Said cracker’s release does not remove these programs, however, instead choosing to simply bypass them while keeping them running in the background. As such, the cracked release might not exhibit a significant difference in performance as compared to the official version, but the usage of four layers of DRM is still worrying, leading one to wonder what the title’s actual performance may be when such software, known to hamper the in-game experience, is absent.

If you’re still on the fence about the Resident Evil 4 remake, our review of the game in which we found it “the gold standard when it comes to remakes” should make that decision much easier for you. For those already exploring the reimagined Valdelobos, check out our selection of Resident Evil 4 remake guides that should make your quest to rescue Baby Eagle much easier.

DICE: Battlefield 2042 Squad Kick & Ban Options Not Going to Be Implemented Since It Doesn’t Promote “Healthy PTFO Behavior”

While DICE has already given us a preview of the Battlefield 2042 squad management and squad order changes and additions incoming in Season 5, don’t expect a way to kick and ban players from joining squads to be implemented soon — or ever.

This has seemingly been confirmed by Battlefield Community Manager Tom Stratford who comments that the studio isn’t implementing it since it’s not “healthy PTFO (Play the Fucking Objective) behavior.”

I know it has since already been covered. But to confirm, there will be no kick/ban option. Instead, there is a reservation system that allows friends to join your squad for a short period if you create one to ensure you can play together. I understand some folks want kick/ban, but for Battlefield 2042 we feel it does not promote healthy PTFO behavior if you just kick or ban folks from your squad instead of (trying to) help each other out. In cases where folks are simply not cooperating, then you can still make use of the reservation system to make a new squad.

With that said, the aforementioned frame is a UI elemental that’s available in Battlefield Portal, but due to a bug it briefly showed up in the video. 1/60th of second, to be exact, and that’s why we missed it originally. Sorry for that, it was unintentional and not helpful for you, or the message we were trying to send at that time.

For reference, the video mentioned by Stratford is this one:

As you can see from Stratford’s reply, the BF2042 squad kick and ban feature can be implemented if DICE wants to, but it doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards anytime soon.

While DICE might have a point, it also makes sense to include this feature in the game rather than have a group of friends all leave a squad, start a new one, and then have each one join (all in-game) just to play together in a full squad is just a whole lot more convoluted, no?

Do you think implementing a kick/ban feature for squads in the game will encourage bad behavior? Or is it OK given that players are just being kicked from squads and not from actual matches?

Thanks, MegaPekka12!

Rainbow Six Siege Y8S2 Operation Dread Factor Releases May 30, New Content, Consulate Rework Gameplay Revealed

Ubisoft is set to deliver Rainbow Six Siege’s latest major content drop with Year 8 Season 2! Called Operation Dread Factor, the Rainbow Six Siege Y8S2 release date is set for May 30 on all platforms.

Not only are we getting a new operator in Fenrir, but there’s also a Consulate map rework, new improvements and more. Thanks to Ubisoft, MP1st was invited to check out and play Operation Dread Factor ahead of its roll out. Check out gameplay footage of the Consulate map rework alongside info on what’s incoming in R6 Siege Y8S2!

Rainbow Six Siege Y8S2 Operation Dread Factor New Content:

Release Date: May 30

New Operator: Fenrir (Gameplay and overview of the new operator here)

Consulate Map Rework – The map rework for Consulate completely rebuilds the experience for players, transforming all floors and sites to make it more balanced, complex, and rewarding to play. The changes to Attacker spawns aim to reduce frustration and increase safety, so there are less vulnerable locations outdoors and Attackers can more easily make it from the spawn location to the building. The reworked Consulate map brings variety with each match, inspiring players to develop new tactics to master their approach.

Check out gameplay we captured straight from the preview event featuring the Consulate map rework:

Shooting Range Improvements – Aiming Lane being introduced in Y8S2. This new lane allows you to master any weapon with customized training including several target types, movement speeds, distances and more. Another thing incoming in the title update is a breakable wall that lets players test the destruction damage of different weapons.

New Permanent Playlist – In Y8S2, a new permanent playlist will let players hop into Arcade modes for quick matches. Returning game modes include: Headshots Only, Snipers Only, Golden Gun and Deathmatch. Players can also expect a new game Free for All game mode to be added as well.

New Gadget “Observation Blocker” – Dropping in Y8S2 Operation Dread Factor is the Observation Blocker. This intel denial gadget projects a digital barrier blocking the line of sight of opponent drones and Observation Tools so they cannot spot Operators and devices on the other side. This barrier is only visible from a drone or an Observation Tool and will not be visible to Operators.

Balancing Updates – This season introduces the first part of balancing for Grim and aims to improve his gadget, the Kawan Hive Launcher: letting his Hives release their swarm charge faster and increasing the chance of it catching a nearby Defender. The swarms are now bigger and stay for a longer duration, but they track a Defender for less time after they step out of the swarm

New Controller Layouts – In Y8S2, new controller layouts with alternate inputs for shooting, crouching, and leaning will be added to help make the game more accessible to everyone.

Free Camera in Match Replay – This will allow players to use a free camera while watching replays, and will let players view recorded view and create content from any angle.

Don’t forget, Rainbow Six Siege Y8S2 Operation Dread Factor launches this May 30! Once the patch is live, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Country – Sweden

Rating Speed (2), Health (2), Difficulty (3)

Loadout – MP7 or a SASG-12, BAILIFF 410 (secondary)

Gadget F-NATT Dread Mine – This shadowy gadget releases a Fear Effect gas that temporarily limits a person’s field of view. As a result, strategic placement of the device will disrupt an attack, allow players towatch entry points, and cover their flank temporarily.

Crusader Kings 3: Royal Court for Consoles Features Breakdown

In just a few days Crusader King 3: Royal Court will be arriving on consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) on May 17. For those interested in what the DLC offers, you can check out the Crusader Kings 3: Royal Court for consoles features breakdown video.

Crusader Kings 3: Royal Court for Consoles Features:

The premium expansion will include the Throne Room, Grandeur, an Inventory system and more. Check out the video for an in-depth look at the new content and features incoming.

Here’s a rundown of Royal Court (via Steam):

In Crusader Kings: Royal Court, you can commission great works of art from inspired craftspeople. Impress your rivals with the grandeur of your court, or awe them with your noble house’s heirlooms and relics. An enhanced Culture system lets you guide your people to novel cultural understandings as they merge or splinter off, embrace their heritage, learn languages, or acquire new traditions.

A Royal Court on display

  • As King or Emperor, watch as your personal throne room comes to life with the vast range of drama and intrigue of your court. Step into a fully 3D realized space, available in one of four major cultural visual styles, and fill it with regalia and majesty.
  • Harsh or benevolent, pass judgment on those seeking arbitration. Hold court and watch as your courtiers scheme and vie for your attention.
  • Match yourself against your greatest rival with your court’s grandeur. Or fail to impress them and suffer the sad diplomatic consequences of bad taste.

A true treasure

  • Show off your exquisitely crafted relics, or focus on your noble house’s history with your family heirlooms. A whole range of new artifacts can be admired in the series’ return of the inventory system.
  • Talented craftspeople, from jewelers to weavers, can be employed on special projects, adding even more unique items to your domain.
  • Commission special great works of art or win artifacts in battle. Be careful, as they can just as easily be lost in a botched duel or rival’s scheme.

Culture and the people

  • A greatly overhauled Culture system lies ready at your fingertips. Major new Cultural Traditions allow you to significantly change the way you play, from choosing the right benefits due to your realm’s terrain to giving your military new bonuses. Determine your heritage through Cultural Pillars or have your subjects learn new languages.
  • Create a truly dynamic melting pot through the new Hybridisation feature, mixing and matching the defining traits of your people into a unique cultural fusion. Become a great Bedouin conqueror who merges with freshly subjugated people or follow the adventurous Norse ruler who came to adopt the local Sri Lankan ways.
  • Witness your realm’s culture evolve with the new Divergence feature, with the hands of time subtly transform a single cultural strand into smaller sub-cultures. Shape it as you see fit, or sow the seeds of change, and watch as one monolithic culture grows into a collection of many different people.

Crusader Kings 3: Royal Court will be out on May 17 on consoles.

Square Enix to Bolster Development of “HD Games” Through MMO and Mobile Title Revenue

Square Enix has released a statement on its plans concerning game development moving forward. The Japanese firm states that it aims to stabilize earnings in order to support the development of “HD games.”

The statement comes from Square Enix’s recent fiscal year financial report. Here’s the full quote:

To date, the Group has primarily worked to stabilize earnings by expanding recurring subscription income from massively multiplayer online games (MMOs), games for smart devices/PC browsers, the Amusement segment, and the Publication segment. Going forward it will further bolster these efforts while also expanding them to other businesses. Establishing a stable base of recurring earnings will enable continued investment in content with a focus on the development of HD games.

For reference, “HD games” is what Square Enix calls its highest-budget titles, with recent games including Forspoken and the upcoming Final Fantasy 16, to name a few. The company currently has 18 major mobile/browser games and two MMO titles in Final Fantasy 14 and Dragon Quest 10, and while the MMOs didn’t receive any expansion packs this year, “a variety of operational initiatives” were implemented to retain users. Other revenue sources, such as amusement and publications, will also support the development and publishing of HD games.

With the added support of MMO and mobile game revenue, Square Enix aims to “create a pipeline enabling regular launches of regular titles” and “focus resources on titles carefully selected for global appeal,” according to a recent results briefing.

Elden Ring Sales Reach 20.5 Million Units Sold; Bandai Namco Expecting Rebound in Sales This Year

Elden Ring, the popular open-world soulslike RPG from FromSoftware, has sold over 20.5 million copies, according to report by Bandai Namco. The Elden Ring sales figure was revealed in the publisher’s most recent fiscal year financial report.

Here’s the full quote taken from the presentation of the report, translated via DeepL:

In the digital business, unit sales of repeat titles for home video games totaled 34.73 million units in FY2022, compared to 30.94 million units in FY2021. As for “ELDEN RING,” cumulative worldwide unit sales totaled 20.5 million units. New worldwide titles got off to a slightly slow start, but several new small- and medium-sized titles enjoyed stable sales.

It’s also worth noting that the company expects rebound sales for Elden Ring, likely due to the upcoming DLC in Shadow of the Erdtree.

We expect a rebound in repeat sales of “ELDEN RING,” which made a large contribution in the previous year. As for new titles, we expect to launch more major titles for both home video games and PC games, including a new “ARMORED CORE” title and a new “NARUTO” title.

Elden Ring actually reached 20 million copies sold back in February, with the official Elden Ring Twitter account making the announcement. For reference, the 20.5 million figure came from the fiscal year report ending on March 31, 2023.

With Shadow of the Erdtree launching sometime this year, Elden Ring’s sales may experience the sales boost that Bandai Namco is predicting.

The Division 2 Title Update 18 PTS Phase 2 Patch Notes Revealed

Just a few weeks ago, Ubisoft Massive revealed the PTS (Private Test Server) patch notes for The Division 2’s Year 5 Season 1 (also known as Title Update 18). Today, we have the second part of that with The Division 2 Title Update 18 PTS Phase 2 patch notes.

Same as with other PTS patch notes, while there is no guarantee that everything listed below will be implemented into the retail version of the game once Title Update 18 releases in June. However, if past PTS changes are anything to go by, the majority, these should be close to what the final patch notes should be.

The Division 2 Title Update 18 PTS Phase 2 Patch Notes:

DESCENT

Many of you dove straight into Descent to explore the new 1-to-4 player PvE mode and were quick to share your thoughts. We wanted to acknowledge some of the key changes:

    • XP awarded to players that have reached level 40 and moved on to the SHD level progression path
    • Seasonal XP to help level 40 players progress though the Seasonal Rewards track

Rewards are based on the maximum Descent loops reached and comprise of sealed caches that will be sent to the player’s inventory upon completing the Descent run and returning to their main character. Please note that the LEVEL mentions refer to the main game character outside Descent:
