BF2042 Update 1.000.036 Released for Discarded Map Rework & More This April 25

DICE has rolled out BF2042 update 1.000.036 on all platforms, and this brings the expected patch 4.2 improvements! Players can expect the Discarded map rework, alongside customization improvements and more! Read on for everything new in the BF2042 April 25 patch notes straight from DICE.

For this patch, DICE has also turned Uniform Soldier Aiming “on” by default. If you’re unfamiliar with it, head on over here for an explanation.

BF2042 Update 1.000.036 Patch Notes:

Here’s an overview of focus areas:

  • Map Rework: Discarded.
  • Collection & Customization Improvements such as the ability to remove Weapon Attachments from Weapons within the Collections Screen.
  • End of Round Improvements such as the showcasing of a new Personal Best statistic.
  • Lis Specialist Mastery Improvement to include Assists into the tracking of Mastery.
  • Uniform Soldier Aiming now “On” by default.

Map Rework: Discarded
The focus of our Discarded rework was to make the infantry gameplay more enjoyable and accessible. New flags have been added, and others have been moved closer to the main play areas, alongside several new paths and roads across the map. Global lighting has also received improvements.

Check out our overview below for a selection of areas that we feel are going to become quite entertaining once this rework goes live!

Areas of Improvements

Salvage Yards
What used to be an open field on the northwest side of the map has become the Salvage Yard. The car wrecks not only fit the theme of Discarded, but also add multiple cover opportunities for soldiers to outsmart the heavy vehicles roaming the area. There are several destructible houses on the outskirts of the flag that can serve as vantage points at the expense of being buried in their rubble.

Antenna
Whilst already an existing flag, we have brought this flag point closer to the Flooded Village based in the northern region of the map. With this new location, it now provides an improved link between the north area of the map (the green area) with the south (the beach). We reinforced the thought of military occupation by adding various military assets and we have improved the layout by populating the combat space with a few extra structures. You can also climb up the antenna, and parachute or Wingsuit from here down to the Colossus or to the Village.

Dismantled Hull
A destroyed convoy and rows of military cover now strengthen the frontlines of this flag.

The smoke from the convoy should conceal approaching players from snipers that may be waiting on the upper floors of the Hull. The core of the flag received a few improvements with military cover as well, allowing for infantry to push in forward less difficulty. Lastly, we closed off part of the side of the hull that faces the Colossus to limit the frequent sniping from the deck of the ship into this flag.

OTHER AREAS OF FOCUS

Collection & Customization Improvements

  • Implemented the ability to remove attachments from weapons within the Customization Screen.
  • Increased legibility of the Plus Menu in-game by only displaying the attachment category that is being changed.
  • Improved how attachments are moved and swapped out in the Customization Menu.
  • Increased the clarity of descriptive information on how suppressors function within the Collection Screen.
  • Fixed layout in the Customization screen so that info is displayed in the same place.
  • Reduced the amount of steps necessary to get into changing attachments.

End of Round Improvements

  • Introduced a new Squad Performance screen statistic called “Personal Best”. If you’ve reached a new record for statistics such as most kills, damage dealt, revives, assists, there is a chance for this stat to display for your efforts in going above and beyond on the battlefield.
  • During the End of Round flow it’s now possible to skip all the way to the main menu without leaving automatic matchmaking.
  • Updated Ribbon progression, increasing legibility of what rank was earned.
  • Improved art & animations across all of End of Round.
  • Round-based Game Modes will now have side switching enabled, and will now have increased visual communication to indicate what happens after the end of match timer ticks down.

Specialist Mastery Improvements

Updated Lis’ Mastery requirement to better fit her intended playstyle:

  • Old – 10 Kills when destroying Vehicles with the G-84 TGM to
  • New – 10 Kills and Assists when destroying Vehicles with the G-84 TGM

Uniform Soldier Aiming
We’re changing the default setting of Uniform Soldier Aiming from Off, to On, for both controller and mouse & keyboard gameplay. This feature is a tool which over time helps your aiming movement to gradually become more consistent during gameplay.

Our reasoning for having Uniform Soldier Aiming turned Off by default in Battlefield 2042 was because in previous Battlefield titles we expected a slower aim rate in zoom to be a benefit in helping players learn to aim. Instead, we have since observed that for both new and experienced players this variance does not promote good muscle memory build up.

CHANGELOG

General & Gameplay Improvements

  • Doors that were previously controlled by the enemy team will now automatically open upon getting close to them rather than having to hold the interact button.
  • Updated the scoreboard to keep the Objective score in the right-most column for all objective-based game modes, for an easier overview.
  • Sundance Mastery now correctly tracks Assists on destroyed enemy vehicles when using the smart explosives.
  • Correct icon is now present for Irish and Sundance’s gadgets.
  • Dozer’s Ballistic Shield will no longer deflect/ricochet Sundance’s Scatter Grenade.
  • Soldiers will now become spotted on the minimap upon firing or throwing the following items: Smoke Grenade Launcher, SPH Explosive Launcher, Recoilless M5, Javelin and FXM-33.
  • The reload prompt no longer appears while you are knocked down and awaiting a revive.
  • The kill log will now display Ranger as the cause of death if you are killed by one of them upon self destructing.
  • Blasco no longer attempts to hug the ground and her arms should remain in the correct place when switching to her gadget while prone.
  • Improved HUD visibility across a number of different screen settings.
  • The icon above Ranger now pulsates correctly when self destructing.
  • Auto throw grenades and throwing knives option now behaves more consistently.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause players to be seen with the green highlight while reviving when they shouldn’t.
  • The repair tool now displays the overheat UI element correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where teammates couldn’t deal damage to friendly deployable shields.
  • Resolved an issue when landing with the parachute and the user repeatedly pressed the melee button it would sometimes cause an unintended animation.
  • The affected zone of Blasco’s X6-Infiltration Device will no longer display on the minimap whilst far away from the intended zone.
  • The name of Blasco’s specialist trait now appears in the HUD after exiting a vehicle and triggering the effect.
  • Players can no longer hear the Signal Jammer noise while in a downed state.
  • A reload animation is now present in first person view after a player fires the rocket launcher, throws a grenade and swaps back
  • Fixed an issue where weapon overheating behaved differently across different platforms.
  • The EOD Bot was getting a bit too friendly with Boris’ SG-36 Sentry Gun and instead of repairing it, would pick it up. Not figuratively speaking, don’t ask us how that would have looked, an EOD Bot rolling down the hills of Flashpoint with a Sentry Gun on it. Anyway, this will no longer take place and it will repair the turret instead, as intended.
  • Resolved an issue that allowed MCOM’s to be stuck in a state which prevented it from exploding upon using the EOD Bot on it.
  • Fixed an issue where you couldn’t pick up C5 or Claymore placed near or inside bushes.
  • If you throw a grenade while holding the Repair Tool, you can no longer see and hear the Repair Tool becoming active for a brief moment.
  • Fixed an issue which would cause multiple grenades to be thrown in a quicker succession than expected if Quick Throw grenades were enabled.
  • Updated Boris’ SG-36 Sentry Gun description to now mention targeting vehicles.

Battlefield Portal

  • Adding a CAV-Brawler to Battlefield Portal will no longer restrict you from saving the experience.
  • Improved consistency of the Vault Weapon attachments.
  • Corrected Recoil Modifiers across Bad Company 2 weapons.
  • MTAR-21’s fire modes can be changed within Battlefield 3 experiences.
  • Correct stats now display within the Collection screen for the RPK.
  • You can now switch between fire modes on the AEK-971.
  • Two consecutive bullets are fired when firing intermittently on auto with the AN-94.
  • You can now switch between fire modes on the AN-94.
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in multiple Battlefield Portal weapons showing incorrect fire modes shown on the Collection Screen.

Weapons

  • Fixed an issue that would occur to reloads when placing a gadget then entering and exiting a vehicle.
  • Fixed an issue where equipping the RPK-74M while repeatedly pressing the melee function with the bipod attachment equipped would cause a broken animation.
  • The Gewehr 43 will no longer have its bolt open within the Collection screen.
  • Tracers are no longer present on Subsonic ammo when equipped on the MP28.
  • The Type 88 LMG and SVD will now be held correctly within the left hand on the Main Screen and Collection Screen.
  • The Super 500 will now display a Prompt Reload option when running low on ammo.
  • Fixed damage sounds not playing when taking hits from Super 500.
Super 500’s crosshair is now an acceptable size while using a flechette shell.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the Prompt Reload option to keep appearing despite being disabled in the options menu.
  • The correct RoF is now present for GOL Sniper Magnum in Collection Tab.

Weapon Attachments

  • MTAR-21 Suppressor no longer deals more damage than Default Suppressors.
  • The Extended Barrel now affects the Rate of Fire when customized on PP-29.
  • The K30 magazines will now display the correct Rate of Fire within the collection screen.
  • The ADR Bipod weapon attachment no longer breaks the melee animation.
  • RM68’s Canted Sight no longer clips through the camera when firing in ADS with Shan 2.5X scope.
  • The M11 x6 Scope is no longer partially obscured while aiming down sights.

Vehicles

  • Increased damage of heavy projectiles towards Transport Vehicles (Including MPAT Shell, TOW Missile etc)
  • Radar Missiles now ignore targets that are Below Radar
  • Mi-240 Super Hind takes 20% more damage from all projectiles
  • MV-38 Condor takes 10% more damage from all projectiles
  • Fixed an issue that would cause the audio to intermittently cut out while repairing the MV-38 Condor.
  • The EMKV90-TOR no longer shakes as it sits on rugged terrain in siege mode.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause the wrong LOD model to display on the MAV at certain distances.
  • The MAV’s 50mm cannon will now visibly show recoil.
  • The HUD no longer flickers while attempting to drive a vehicle in an elevator on Exposure.
  • The Fire Countermeasure reactive hint will no longer be displayed while being hacked or under the influence of an EMP.
  • VFX now displays correctly when Javelin projectiles are intercepted by APS.
  • Blue markers are now displayed in HUD for projectiles intercepted by APS.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the missiles of the EBAA Wildcat to not hit enemy helicopters.
  • Fixed an issue where EBAA Wildcat AA missiles sometimes fail to hit helicopters
  • Stealth helicopters that have been hit with the Tracer Dart can now be locked onto, even in Stealth mode.
  • The 40mm Incendiary Grenade Launcher Visual Effects on the CAV-Brawler now matches the affected area.
  • The lid on the CAV-Brawler open seat no longer closes while Lis is controlling her guided missile.
  • Added Cyber Warfare Protection to the CAV-Brawler

Sega of America Unionizes as “AEGIS,” a Multi-Department Video Game Union

Sega of America’s office in Irvine, California has just unionized, with the organization filing for a union election with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Under the name Allied Employees Guild Improving Sega (AEGIS), the union consists of 144 employees across multiple departments, including marketing, product development, QA, localization, and live service.

An official Twitter account for the union has also been created, where the organization released a statement on its recent founding:

In an interview with The Verge, Sega employee and temp localization editor Emma Geiger revealed that the union had been in the works for over a year, with the organization of the group starting out by “making friends.”

[Organizing] started out with making friends actually. You’d have a couple people on your team that you’d hang out with after work. And then you’d see somebody in the office who was maybe not on your team, but worked in the same space, and you’d reach out. That sort of bridges a little bit of a gap.”

Another employee, Torie Winkler, who works as a senior community manager, also mentions that regular discussions among co-workers led to talks about unionization.

“Through talking about games with people in the localization department or QA was really how I started to learn about the unionization process. And even as we’ve been having discussions throughout this process, it’s really helped to forge connections with people that I wouldn’t have had an opportunity to talk to just in my day to day working environment.”

Sega has yet to officially comment on the formation of AEGIS.

Cliff Bleszinski Wants Nexon CEO to Revive LawBreakers IP

Cliff Bleszinski, veteran developer (Gears of War) and designer of now-offline arena shooter LawBreakers, has made recent statements on Twitter regarding the game. Bleszinski revealed that the game’s IP is currently in the hands of Nexon, LawBreakers’ original publisher. He also tweeted at the studio’s CEO, Owen Mahoney, requesting him to “slide into [his] DMs” to talk about a “resurrection” for it.

Days ago, Bleszinski originally tweeted out that Nexon owned rights to LawBreakers, with his request to Mahoney also found in the same tweet:

Interestingly enough, while Bleszinski seems to want to revive LawBreakers, he isn’t as keen on running it himself. In a reply thread to the original tweet, Bleszinski revealed that he was “kinda over the whole making games thing for a while,” and that he would rather help out on the potential revival as a consultant.

While LawBreakers was well-received by critics and reviewers during the game’s release, the shooter failed to sustain a large enough player base to continue live services, with the game’s PC player count dropping below 500 less than one month after its launch. LawBreakers’ game servers shut down one year later in September 2018, with one of the game’s developers claiming that arena-style shooters were not “widely accepted” when the game came out.

XDefiant Killcam Being Worked on, Devs Asking About Killstreak Feedback and Have a “Fun” Idea for Nuke

Those playing the XDefiant closed beta will no doubt notice the game’s similarities with other fast-paced first-person shooters. However, there is one feature that’s become a staple of online multiplayer games that aren’t in the beta just yet, and that’s killcams! If you wanted XDefiant to feature killcams, you’re in for some good news, as Ubisoft just confirmed it’s in the works!

This was mentioned by XDefiant Executive Producer Mark Rubin over on Twitter when asked by a player whether there are any plans for killcams:

Rubin’s killcam comment was started when he asked about the idea of having a mode featuring killstreaks. For reference, XDefiant has no killstreak or scorestreak mechanic, but chaining kills together does let you obtain your abilities and ultra much faster.

Note that Rubin confirmed that this is not coming to regular game modes for XDefiant, nor is this a confirmation that killstreaks are coming at all, but it’s just the dev team throwing out ideas and whether this is something the player base would embrace.

Another mechanic that might be familiar to players is the “nuke” streak that is usually given to a player that manages to pull of a 30-kill weapon streak (in Call of Duty, this means no streak kills count, and only weapons and equipment). While there is no nuke in XDefiant, Rubin states that he has a “fun” idea for a nuke though it will take some time to implement.

With XDefiant still in closed beta, chances are these changes and new features won’t be available until the final release or in another beta phase. With over one million players already joining the closed beta for the upcoming free-to-play shooter, Ubisoft might be on the cusp of a hit. Go check out our interview with the dev team regarding XDefiant right here.

Have you played XDefiant? Would you want a killstreak or scorestreak mechanic into the game? Or should Ubisoft San Francisco leave that to Call of Duty?

Diablo 4 Character Customization Tools Outlined; Builds, Cosmetics, and More

A new Diablo 4 dev insight blog has just been released, and this time it delves into the game’s customization options for players to try out. Diablo 4’s character customization extends beyond just your skills, with cosmetics and gear to fully flesh out an in-game identity.

Here’s a summed-up list of all the features you can use to make your character different and unique in Diablo 4:

CHARACTER BUILD

Skill Tree: The Skill Tree provides you with a variety of playstyles for each class through Skills, Passive Skills, Enhancements, and Key Passives as your character levels up and hones their abilities.

Skill Tree Nodes: Each Class has access to Basic, Core, and Ultimate Skills, as well as Key Passives and Skill types unique to that Class, such as Companion, Brawling, Subterfuge, and many more.

Basic Skills: These are the first Skills a player can access; they unlock at Level 2. Outside of character creation, this is one of the earliest decisions a player will make.

Core Skills: The older, stronger sibling of Basic Skills—they are unlocked at Level 4. Core Skills deal significantly more damage, require an amount of a Class’s resource to cast, and will often be the bread and butter of your character’s offensive combos.

Ultimate Skills: These Skills incur a cooldown after being used but you’ll be extremely grateful for having them in your arsenal.

Key Passives: Unlocked at Level 32, Key Passives dramatically affect how your other Skills operate, tweaking your playstyle towards a unified goal as you unlock them.

Paragon Boards: Unlocking upon reaching level 50, Paragon Boards are an Endgame character growth system designed to empower your wanderer.

COSMETICS AND CHARACTER CREATION

Character Creation: Sanctuary is a diverse world with a variety of unique cultures. The Character Creator in Diablo IV echoes this sentiment with over 8 trillion appearance combinations.

Transmogs: Salvage loot in your inventory to unlock transmog options, allowing armor to have the visual design and color palate you prefer.

Mounts: Unlocked after completing the Main Questline with one character, Mounts have an assortment of customization options available to them, such as different types of Mounts, Armor, and Trophies.

GEAR

Legendary Items: These powerful items possess the ability to enhance or change your Skills and lend other helpful bonuses to your character.

No Legendary left behind: If you happen to leave a Legendary Item on the ground or are disconnected before you can acquire it, don’t fret—they can be accessed through a special storage tab in your Stash.

Unique Items: Unlike Legendary Items, these rarefied pieces of Gear should be coveted. The bonuses they provide cannot be transferred from one item to another through extraction.

Skill Rank Bonuses: Most item types have a chance to contain a bonus that provides players with an increase to certain Skills while the item is equipped.

Extracting Legendary Bonuses: Have a Legendary Item with a bonus you adore but the other stats are too weak? Extracting allows you to take the Legendary bonus from one item and apply it to other items, enabling you to tailor your items to your specific build and have your favorite bonuses on hand.

Crafting: In Diablo IV, we’re trying to emphasize item modification. We want players to find items in the world and consider the potential they hold. Players can reroll bonuses, increase the power of items, exchange Legendary bonuses, and add gem sockets to items.

You can read the full blog here. Blizzard has also released a video talking about character customization, which you can find below:

Diablo 4 will be having a second beta test called the “Server Slam” from May 12 to 14. You can read all the details regarding this beta weekend here.

Ubisoft: The Division 2 Support Originally Planned to End in 2020; Game Was More Successful Than Anticipated

Two years after its release, it seemed like Ubisoft was throwing in the towel when it came to The Division 2, as players got seasonal re-runs rather than new content. Well, it seems that was exactly what was planned originally, as Ubisoft intended for The Division 2 support to end in 2020.

Speaking to MP1st, The Division 2 Creative Director Yannick Banchereau mentioned that the original plan was for The Division 2 support to end in 2020. However, it wasn’t because it was a bad game, but rather, the studio was busy with its in-development Star Wars game and there simply wasn’t enough cooks in the kitchen back then.

It seems the game (The Division 2) was more successful than what Ubisoft expected from it after the release of its major expansion Warlords of New York that it became feasible for Massive to resume development of it alongside Ubisoft Bucharest which seems to be the main studio handling content for The Division 2.

MP1st: Interestingly enough, a lot of people (ourselves included), thought that The Division 2 wouldn’t be getting any more major content drops esp. after the studio planned for Title Update 12 to be the last major update, and then started re-releasing season reruns in 2021. Then the State of Game devstreams ending as well, and add in how Massive is now doing a big Star Wars game, can you explain what happened and how we’re pivoting now to a full Year 5 support?

Banchereau : It’s crazy when you think about it, huh? That’s the beauty of it. It’s been quite a real rollercoaster because Yes, the plan was after Update 12, at the end of 2020, the plan was to stop supporting the game. Because as the question mentions, we started working on the Star Wars game, we have the Avatar game. Everybody’s very busy at Massive and the idea was that we just need the people on those projects.

It wasn’t because The Division 2 was bad just we need the people on the other projects. You know what happened is the game remained successful and probably more successful than we had anticipated after the release of Warlords of New York, and the different seasons. So that allowed us to kind of resume the conversation internally of maybe we should keep going.

Really, everybody wanted to, but the main challenge was that we need people. The people we had on the project have moved on to our projects and we can’t just recall them and say, “come back to The Division.” That was the main challenge for us, was finding a team and we did that in Ubisoft Bucharest.

Since then it’s been a great collaboration between Massive (and) Ubisoft Bucharest. What we’re seeing in Year 5 now, it is the real result of it. The time we took to Ubisoft Bucharest for them to learn the engine, learn the game, us learning to work together in a way where we are flexing our muscles of running a live game.

We learned a lot with Year 4, which was our first real year of content after we started, we resumed production. And I think Year 5 is where you’re going to see the real results of, now we have a full team, but is experienced but knows how to build things in The Division 2.

This is the full year — the real full year — of content that we’re going to be doing on The Division 2. It’s really exciting to see where we are today, compared to what could have been.

With Ubisoft announcing The Division 2 Year 5 roadmap, it seems players have a lot to look forward to this year. Add in The Division Heartland and The Division Resurgence to the mix, and it seems the franchise is thriving more than ever.

Speaking of things to look forward to, the Resident Evil apparel event is returning tomorrow! Read up on that here.

Stay tuned to our full interview hitting the site soon.

Dead Island 2 Sales Exceed 1M Copies in Just Three Days; More Than 11M Hours Played and More Stats Revealed

Dead Island 2 has recently been released, and it looks like all the years in development have paid off. Dead Island 2’s sales have reached over 1 million copies in just three days, according to a recent announcement from Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios.

Alongside the major sales milestone, the studios have also revealed some interesting statistics regarding the game’s cumulative playtime, total player death count, and more. Here’s the full list straight from the press release:

  • More than 1 million – copies of Dead Island 2 sold in first weekend
  • 11 million – total hours played
  • 28 million – total number of player deaths (over twice the population of Los Angeles)
  • 45 million – zombies sliced in half
  • 756 million – zombie limbs hacked off
  • 1.1 billion – total number of zombies slayed

While the game’s reception has been a bit polarizing among players, we gave it an 8/10 score in our review. Here’s a snippet:

With a consistent and crunchy limb damage system, some great sightseeing to catch, and more secret side-quests than you can shake your damaging electrocutor pike at, Dead Island 2 is absolutely worth the ride, despite its flaws – that zombie sticking out of the kitchen sink? That’s not part of the terror ride, you can be certain about that.

Dead Island 2 is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you’ve recently picked up a copy yourself, check out the game’s recommended settings here.

Latest Resident Evil 4 Remake Patch Plugs Scope & RPG Exploits for Speedrunners, Players Downpatching for It and Here’s How

Earlier today, Capcom released a new Resident Evil 4 remake patch on all platforms. While it was released to fix a few bugs, it seems it also plugged some well-known exploits speedrunners have been using as well.

Chief among the fixes include “An issue causing players to warp through walls when using the scope in certain areas has been fixed.,” which you can see in action here. While Capcom didn’t list it in the notes, community members have confirmed that the infinite RPG ammo exploit has also been patched out with the latest title update. Both news are definitely not welcome to speedrunners who just want to finish the game as quick as possible (rules be damned!).

Well, RE4 remake players aren’t taking this one sitting down, as some have resorted to “downpatching” their game version in order for the exploits to still work. By downpatching, this means reverting the game to an older state/version where the exploits still work.

Curious how to do it yourself? We have a handy tutorial available below thanks via the Resident Evil 4 remake speedrunning community.

Before doing downpatching, note that MP1st does not recommend modding your game haphazardly, and take no responsibility if decided to do it.

How to Downpatch Resident Evil 4 Remake After Patch 1.05:

As you can see in this image, the red dot is the .exe (for WW_2 released 24/04/23) and the blue dot is the .pak’s which are the updates.

– To downpatch, copy the .exe and the latest .pak (so in this case 002.pak) and place them in a folder somewhere in case you want to go back to the later version.
-Download the .exe’s from here

Then, inside the games install folder delete re4.exe and the latest .pak (002 in this case) and replace the .exe with .exe from the patch before the current one (so in this case WW_1) and rename it to re4

– your install folder should now look like this:

and only have 000.pak and 001.pak (this is how to downpatch specifically to the patch before door clips were fixed)

If you’re really trying your best to beat Resident Evil 4 remake as quick as possible, then you might have no choice other than to downpatch it. Either that or beat it the regular way, though it will be a lot slower.

Have you found other fixes in the patch not released by Capcom? Leave a comment below and let us know.
