Blizzard Entertainment has added support to Starcraft 2 this week for the authenticator by-pass feature. Players playing World of Warcraft may already be familiar with this optional feature which has been around for a while now.

To anyone who is unfamiliar with what an authenticator does, it is a physical device (or mobile phone application) that creates a unique one time code that is required to log in to your Battle.net account. The By-Pass system works by skipping the authentication code normally required if you using an authenticator, but only if you are logging in from the same location. Note this feature is now enabled by default but can be disabled in the Battle.net account management page, opting out of the service will mean an authentication code is required at all times from all locations.

It is great to see Blizzard Entertainment expanding this feature to Starcraft 2 and will hopefully assist in giving players more reasons to try out the service which is a great extra layer of security for precious accounts.
