Killzone: Shadow Fall Download Weights In 50GB

If you were planning on buying Killzone: Shadow Fall digitally off the PlayStation Store when it launches this November, you may want to know that it’s gonna take quiet a chunk out of that 500 GB hard-drive on your PlayStation 4, and also a chunk of your bandwidth.

In an Interview with Eurogamer, Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Fergal Gara confirmed that the game will be somewhere around 50 GB, possibly more.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is an uber file – I think it’s cracking on for 50GB. It looks it, too, when you see it.

While the download size of Killzone: Shadow Fall is rather huge, remember, you won’t have to wait that long to play since the PlayStation 4 will allow you to play once a download has reached a certain point. Also, Shadow Fall will have options to let players choose what they want to download and play first. So, if you’re someone looking for some single-player, then you can instantly jump into that, and vice-versa with the multiplayer.

It is, however, not recommended for those with slow download speeds. I suggest you go retail, rather than digital, if that is indeed an issue.

I want the benefits of digital with the convenience of retail. Sadly, only MS pre-180 was offering that.

    • jameslara

You mean the ability to take ur games anywhere? PS4 has that, and not to troll or anything, but the console itself doesn’t even need the always internet connection like the Xbox One did.

You can go to ur firends house, log into ur acocunt and download/play as you go.

      • MegaMan3k

Specifically, I want to buy a disc and install and not need the disc to play.

        • The used games audience didn’t want that.

        • swipe_06

In that case you could re-sell the disc right away.

          • fleabag323

Yes, that is why they had an online check.

        • kash

why not just buy the digital version?

  • Stefan Oprisan

Dammit 50GB thats way too much even for the ps4, 10% is already gone

    • Just saying

Go for the Blu-ray Discs. Simplest/easiest way.

      • jameslara

u still need to install the game, and from my understanding thats the whole 50GB

        • John S

          I doubt it.

        • Just saying

I think we’ll have to install a portion of the game not the whole thing like PS3 but who knows, I may be wrong.

    • QwietStorm

So buy a hard drive. They’re cheap these days, and a large enough size will last you for years.

  • That guy you might know

    Totally worth Disc-based games.

Just need the 500 gb for Download only titles

    • Wrathchildx666x

correct me if i’m wrong but don’t you have to install the games to your HDD with nextgen?

      • George

You can download them or install the discs.

      • That guy you might know

I don’t think for that much
Stuff like game configuration and profiles.

I’m not exactly sure what’s installs to the HDD with a disc copy

        • Wrathchildx666x

it’s the full game that installs according to other news sites, so unless digital is cheaper i’d rather have a physical copy just to put on the shelf

      • jameslara

regardless of downloading or not, 50GB is gonna be used up for both retail and digital from my understanding.

It’s just the fact that you have to downlaod it, rather than install it right away

      • Ryan Schulze

Even if you have to install it from disc, maybe a year or two later, you decide you don’t want it taking up space, then you uninstall it, but you still have it ready to go if you want to install later, even if you’re without an internet connection.

      • QwietStorm

Shuhei Yoshida said you have the option to do full installs if you want.

  • CoDforever

    Hahahahahahahahahaha

  • Ryan Schulze

At least the hard drive is upgradable.

  • MC-ARNIE

People moaning because we’re getting huge data filled games that we’ve always wanted? ……. My internet connection where I live is bad at best, so I still go the disc route anyway, i’m getting a PS4 next year after i get my son’s birthday and xmas out of the way, 500gb is more than enough for me, and even if it ends up not being it’s a simple upgrade. 🙂

    • Warren Lucas

make the ps4 his “gift” for xmas and his birthday

      • Just saying

If I remember right, his son is 5 years old so he won’t appreciate such a gift now.

    • CoDforever

GTA V for your 7 year old sons present ? why not.

      • dieger

manhunt 2 for his 2 year old daughter?

      • John S

COD would be more of his age group. Don’t you agree sir?

  • swipe_06

Some might get the wrong message, but imagine going over to your friend, and say “oh, I got this cool game I want to show you, lemme log in with my account, and we can download it” and then bam: 50Gigs on your friends retro 1mbps connection.
We are sooo not ready for the future.

    • MC-ARNIE

I can pretty much relate to this.

      • swipe_06

Remember the ps4 video where the guy plays knack while KZ downloads? He downloads the Multiplayer while he finishes off the boss. makes me feel i’m a peasant (in relation to network speed)

        • Just saying

you’re the first one in a week to make me laugh lol. I didn’t notice that when I first watched it but yea that’s fast. I have a 4Mb/s Internet here but my friend in the US has 100 Mb/s so I would say some of us aren’t ready for the future not all 🙂

        • dieger

MP portion is probably small remember UC3? it had a 40GB singleplayer if i remember or was it 20gb?

          • CoDforever

            Really wtf ?

            • dieger

yeah because the single player has better graphics, more cutscene(which are big), and scripted events

          • swipe_06

It was probably a 5MB stand in file on the video, just to show how downloading, notification works. It was just a bit funny, how blazing fast the game came down.

    • SangheiliSpecOp

But with all of the time spent downloading the game, you can at least prepare for the future 😀

      cwatididthar?

      • oofy

With my download speeds, by the time I’m done downloading games of these size, it WILL be the future.

        • RECKLESSgoat

          100mbps only 🙁

          • oofy

I need to write a letter to the Google execs that moves them to tears so that they bring Google Fiber to my area. Oh, to dream…

            • RECKLESSgoat

              hahaha, good luck man xD

    • John S

Agree %100. Digital only future is a stupid idea made up by no common sense book nerds who has know idea how real people want there stuff, or has any idea that the America internet structure is pure garbage. I live 5 miles out of a big city and I still do not get unlimited broadband. This is 50GB for one game. I do not even think I will see this in my life time. Sure you can do digital only on PC but for home consoles it will never happen.

Also what about all these internet companies putting caps on internet. What are they gonna do when they see somebody using 50GB of internet in a hour( that is a rough estimate). Slow your connection down or throttle it.

I also live 5 miles from a Gamestop so I think I can manage to go pick up a game. Besides a gamer has got to get sunshine sometime.LOL

  • M8NTIS

This should be of no surprise, many PS3 exclusives were nearly hitting the limit of a Blu-Ray disc.
Killzone 3, God of War III, Uncharted 3 (48.2GB), Gran Tourismo 5, God of War Ascension were all just under 50GB.
It was only because of xbox’s problem of being on DVD that many games stayed under 7GB for consoles.
This is also why I will be swapping out my PS4s 500GB drive for a 1TB on day one.

    I’m done with discs.

  • QwietStorm

60mb connection, 1TB SSHD. Life is good. Or at least, good enough.

    • oofy

In that regards, I wish I had your life.

      • QwietStorm

lol let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

        • oofy

Just your internet speeds. lol. You can keep the rest.

          • QwietStorm

            Sorry it’s a package deal.

            • oofy

As long as you’re not on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list, I’ll trade you mine.

            • QwietStorm

              How did you… *signing off..

  • Joseph

With a 60GB Monthly download cap, I highly doubt I’ll be buying ANY next-gen game from the cloud…..

  • Brandon Griffin
