inFamous: Second Son Will Not Feature Multiplayer

Last June, we reported on the possibility that inFamous: Second Son may indeed feature some sort of a multiplayer feature.

While details were sketchy at the time, it was speculated that it would happen, considering that the last instalment before Second Son did indeed try to push for online interaction. Sadly, (or luckily depending on your preferences), inFamous: Second Son will not feature any sort player vs. player or co-op for that matter.

As confirmed by Brand Development Director, Ken Schramm, in an interview by UDM, while the main protagonist will indeed meet various NPC’s throughout the campaign, the game will not feature multiplayer and will remain a single-player game.

No news on whether the user generated content feature that allowed players to create their own missions and share it with others will be making it into the game. inFamous: Second Son releases on March 21st for PS4.

So, what are your guys’ thoughts? Are you glad it’s staying a single-player game or were you hoping to be able to bash one another head on with all sorts of crazy powers?

Thanks, DualShockers

On one hand, Sony would do well to not cannibalize their Killzone playerbase. But on the other hand, I think Infamous could be really interesting with some asynchronous multiplayer or even a good arcade shooter multiplayer “shooter.”

Basically, I think this is disappointing news.

On the bright side, this leaves them more time to deliver a better single player.

    • Mike

it would be generic, play it once boring.. and you know it.

    • dieger

“Sony would do well to not cannibalize their Killzone playerbase” how would that happen? Infamous is a third person action adventure game while killzone:SF is a FPS corridor shooter

  • Mitch

Damn, I was really interested to see what they could do with a super powers multiplayer :’(. Especially with Second Son, where you have multiple powers. Or a coop, or even just free-roaming with friends would have been epic.
    Damn, I need a new trailer…

    • dieger

      Why won’t devs give us co-op in open world D;

  • Michael G

they want to stay with the single-player aspect of the game. i’ll take that that.

  • Firm Like Mutton

Ironically, I’m stoked by this news. Infamous is one franchise that should stick to providing a top notch single player experience. Perhaps further down the track exploring a co-op mode could be interesting, but I’m far more interested in the first entry on PS4 being made of win.

    • dieger

co-op survival mode? with 4 power characters vs the mutants from Infamous 2?

      • Mitch

Even something simple as MW3′s survival would be cool.

      • Firm Like Mutton

        I can cosign on that!

  • Work Hard, Twerk Harder

Sorta off topic, but has a release date been told for watch dogs on PS4? Tempted to get that instead of Infamous (if it’s anything like infamous 2 then I’ll most likely go for Watch Dogs, just my opinion).

    • MegaMan3k

If I recall, they said Q1 for their fiscal year which I think is April through June.

      • Work Hard, Twerk Harder

Would mean that it’s not long after this then…
Guess I’ll check gameplay from both sides and decide probably a month after Watch Dogs is out.
        Thanks for the info anyway

multiplayer would turn out like bioshock 2′s multiplayer… some games should never ever use it..

    • dieger

In all honesty Bioshock 2′s MP was actually really well thought out and had a nice spice to it

      • James Mulhall

It was really well thought out? ;-; wat

The mp literally had no thought towards it if you ask me.

        • dieger

guess you were part of the hate/dislike group i personally liked it everyone forgot about it though :/

  • zacflame

I am just waiting for a good superpower mp game, and I doubt any other IP would deliver with this.

    • jj16802

      Injustice: Gods Among Us?

      • zacflame

        You know what I mean.

  • KiLLaMaNiLLa

A lot of great games were ruined due to devs forced to add a multiplayer like Bioshock 2,Spec Ops:The Line,Tomb Raider etc… Honestly a lot of games should never have a multiplayer if it wouldn’t fit right. But i do think every game should be co-op since basically every gamer plays with friends. Co-op should be mandatory.

    • Alkaporty

I agree about co-op, I don’t get why so few games have campaign co-op. But these games aren’t ruined, they just miss an opportunity to make these single player experience even better.

Spec Ops: The Line kinda sucked bad tbh lol
