Battlefield 4 – DICE Suggests Sub 50 Player Limit For Rented Servers On PS4 and Xbox One

With the long requested rent-a-server feature now live for Battlefield 4 across all platforms, it seems that the implementation of the feature isn’t going as smoothly as developer DICE had hoped it would.

DICE has issued an update on an occurring issue being investigated in Battlefield 4 where any rented server on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms fails to start due to its 64 player count.

While they are investigating what’s causing the servers to fail when they are set for 64 players, DICE has suggested the following as a workaround for the issue:

“While we investigate, we recommend that server administrators who are experiencing this issue set their servers to 50 players or less. We would like to thank those early adopters of the Rent-a-Server Program for Battlefield 4 for their patience during the last few days as we worked on solving the ongoing issues.”

In addition, those who are currently renting servers for Battlefield 4 on the aforementioned platforms can expect DICE to add a few more days towards your server lease, which will be free of charge for all of your troubles.

Stay tuned to MP1st for more updates regarding Battlefield 4.

  • ODST

    Battlefield having server issues? Blasphemy!

    • El Gringo Diablo

Yeah but now it’s being paid for… I smell blood in the water…

      • dpg70

Yeah, if you jumped on server rental after the mess this game has been you kinda deserve whatever comes. That’s just being a knucklehead.

  • selveste_gud

LOL@BF4, glad I decided to wait and see if it was worth buying, 6 months later it is still a steaming piece of crap….
maybe BF5 will be the game where DICE finally manages to move the game out of the BETA phase?

    • Stereotypical_White_Fella

Hopefully they don’t bother making anymore games for last gen consoles. I feel like them having to make a game as big and complicated as BF4 for 5 different platforms really had a lot to do with why the game is so broken

      • Joel Santana

That and they are working on two other titles.

      • MegaMan3k

I don’t think the last gen versions have anything to do with Battlefield 4 being garbage.

        • Ricardo

How so? I mean having to make BF4 for 5 different platforms and working on Mirrors Edge 2 and at the same time that Star Wars game their making had to have had some relation to the broken BF4 people talk about?

          • MegaMan3k

I believe my statement because BF4s flaws seem to rest with misguided game design and not limited resources.

Maybe it’s my limited knowledge of high level networking, but I don’t see why the last Gen games would have held back the networking in so many areas. Especially since it’s a huge step back even from the 360 version of bf3.

            • Ricardo

Hmmm :l well who knows I just hope by the time I get a PS4 or PC these issues are fixed. It makes me iffy about buying the game if these problems happen often.

            • selveste_gud

some parts of the game where held back by the last gen restrictions, because DICE and EA wanted the games to be as similar as possible, sound design, animation variety and map design had to be limited on next gen in order to accommodate last gen.
but most of the problems stem from EA and overstretching resources, EA pushed DICE to release an unfinished product, this is old news, some don’t believe this, but it is the truth, BF4 should have been delayed ATLEAST a full year, DICE should have been given more control over their product, right now DICE is just trying to do damage control, but fixing issues with a game already released isn’t easy when they are forced to make DLC and move resources to development of new games.
another huge part of all the issues is that EA are the one deciding what server infrastructure the games shall run on, DICE has to to adapt the game to whatever specification EA decides they wanna pay for, and sadly EA decided to use a server system that was outdated about 5 years ago, only now are they realizing and admitting this.

        • LetTehAMDTearzFlow

Wrong. The oldgen consoles definitely held development and features back. The mapsizes had to stay small to accomodate the 360/PS3 memory constraints, and a DICE dev even let it slip that they couldn’t add any more animations after a certain point because they ran out of memory on 360. All platforms suffered because of it.

So yes, last gen very much has hamstrung the more powerful platforms in the name of feature parity.

          • dpg70

Actually, the old consoles (ps3 anyway) works pretty well. Better anyway

          • Krashman Von Stinkputin

Wrong. Probs are in it’s DNA–its engine.
DICE chose to the platforms to develop on. Other devs for DECADES now have developed a game and then successfully re-compiled it for other less capable systems.
My first home system was an Atari 2600 and the PAC-MAN port from the arcade worked just fine.

If DICE had issues they should have done what RESPAWN did –stagger the releases.

7 Months later and they can’t get a version on even ONE platform to a consistent playable state. Gimme a break

  • Connor

This game gets more and more absurd every day. DICE has yet to release an update that doesn’t add more issues. It’s been seven months and we’re still putting up with this garbage.

    • Katana67

While they tend to do a good (if prolonged) job of fixing things, I agree.

I remember way back, on this very site, commenting about how DICE desperately needed one patch/update to go off without a hitch. That never ended up happening.

      • Connor

I don’t expect it to. It’s been over a month since the last (actual) update, they’ve obviously had enough time to test the next patch. There’s no excuses for constantly adding issues.

    • LetTehAMDTearzFlow

You’re like a battered wife. Just sit and complain instead of bailing. DICE isn’t making you put up with anything, that’s your decision.

I uninstalled months ago, smartest move I’ve made. No more rubber banding, getting shot behind walls, crash to desktop, insta-kills, and above all no more dealing with the asshole player base. No more stress.

      • Luke

It really blows, there isn’t anything really out on PS4. Honestly once Watchdogs comes out I’m gonna be all over that, and I (and probably others) will be dropping BF4 for a while.

        • Kreten

Well even COD is better, it actually works well and doesn’t have issues

          • LetTehAMDTearzFlow

            Trololol

          • Azza

Call of duty ghost had a free multiplayer demo weekend. I decided to download it and play it. To be honest I had worse connection issues than battlefield 4. It felt like I was playing a beta… Gave me a bad impression of the game…

      • Connor

I keep this game because I still play with friends, but that’s not the point. I shouldn’t be forced to uninstall a game because some incompetent devs can’t fix their game seven months later.

      • James Mulhall

Except you paid for the game, you have the right to complain if they feel they got ripped off.

    • Hates bad writers.

Putting up with? Here’s an idea, play a game that isn’t shit! Crazy I know, but it works.

      • Connor

Again, why should I be forced to delete a game I paid money for because of incompetent developers?

  • Ricardo

    I still haven’t gotten the game..because I don’t have a PS4 or a gaming PC yet. ._.

    • LetTehAMDTearzFlow

Thank you for providing that important information

  • TriguyRN

    Yay, rent-a-server :)
But of course, something does not work like everything added to the game.

  • Jonah Thrillz

EA needs to stop fucking around and admit they released BF4 before it was truly ready. Settle this piece of crap and give every owner of BF4 free access to Premium as a token of good faith. Delay BF5 until DICE believes it is really ready for release.

    • Oblivion_Lost667

And what do those that had premium get? Honestly, it’d have to be a joint admission, because EA’s not the only one at fault here.

      • Kreten

Ea is the only one at fault here, what does every single EA game have in common? Servers that suck and take forever to be fixed. So anyone buying EA game shouldn’t complain as they know that they are buying a game with crappy servers

        • thatoneguy

Look at what happened to the Need for Speed franchise. Used to be fairly decent, now after EA taking part of it, has been thrown to the dirt. The Skate franchise, gone. EA only cares about one thing, $$$$$.

Once they milk their little prodigal game, they throw it to the side and move on the next big money title. Why do you think that they were voted Worst Company in the World for 2 years in a row, and only got beaten by a couple percent last year by Warner Bros.

          • Oblivion_Lost667

They got voted worst company because people are ignorant and join the bandwagon. If you honestly thing they’re the worst company in the world, or even in the US, then that’s sad. There are plenty of worse companies in the world, between things like companies abusing animals for furs and war profiteering, there are plenty that are worse.

        • Oblivion_Lost667

It’s delusional to think it’s only EA, devs have a say in their game and whether it gets released, EA isn’t stupid either, it’s purely a bad business decision to release a game so early (BF4 in particular), that it still isn’t fixed 6+ months down the road.

    • dpg70

I think we’re beyond that. At what point do we realize that they are not and never have been competent developers? They have a fantastic idea that they half-ass implement.

  • Marcin Kubica

Fair enough they released the rented servers earlier, it’s already much funnier to setup clan matches than trying to do so on public servers. And fair enough they’ll add some free days for the inconveniences. Hope they’ll go back to the drawing board and review the feedback of all outstanding issues similarly.

  • Mus1ckFPS

I havent even been able to change the maps around on my server that i bought for a week its almost up now, GG DICE all i wanted was a pistol only server & thats ruined

    • OWCY

      Pistol only server! Admin dick

Maybe we can’t use 64 players because the server can’t handle the workload of a single match. Then upgrade your servers, like you said you would.

Even though your game is bugy as hell, a lot have people still bought it. That doesn’t give you an excuse to just sit back and relax. The problems are there, so fix them.

    • LetTehAMDTearzFlow

Look, its “yelling at the TV” guy

      • xHDx

Do you have anything constructive to share? No? Must be a troll then.

  • http://IGXGaming.com/ IGXGaming

Well…maybe I won’t make a camper free zone after all.

    • Kreten

Why would anyone pay extra for a server where they should get one thats working with just buying a game?

  • Hates bad writers.

I don’t feel bad for anyone stupid enough to purchase a server. You know the game doesn’t work, don’t be mad when this does. I’m still ashamed that “gamers” still play this turd. It’s a clearly broken game but they still make time. And people wonder why DICE puts less effort into their games, they know you’re dumb enough to buy it.

Enjoy your server, folks, I hope it works at least once a day for you. Try not to kick too many people whooping your ass.

    • thatoneguy

I don’t know about anyone else but that 12 hours that rent-a-server worked on X1 was probably the most fun I had with this game. It was nice to finally play long matches (even though it was just constant 24/7 metro/locker) but it was nice to play like 45 minute domination games and just get all of the attachments for a gun.

      • Hates bad writers.

So you like playing mindless repetitive drivel? Can’t say I give two shits about what you have to say. You don’t have standards, what’s the point in talking with you? If doing the exact same thing, spawn trapping a team, or being spawn trapped (as you most likely kick people until you win), on the same boring, poorly designed maps, what fun is to be had? You’re literally just telling everyone that you’re a simpleton, nothing to be proud of.

thank god,ive skipped on this game, learned my lesson from BF3 and the BF4 beta

Won’t let me rent a server on X1. When I try to select a server region, it won’t let me chose and if I press accept, the game crashes. IM TRYING TO GIVE YOU MY MONEY DICE!
