Battlefield: Hardline ‘Will Work’ At Launch, Says Visceral Games Creative Director

Since its inception, Battlefield: Hardline has been seen as the underdog of Battlefield games by many, having to prove itself to the thousands of fans who have come to love the arcade war-emulating franchise.

Developer Visceral Games has made massive strides to deliver the Battlefield game that fans want with Hardline. But, considering the series’ troubled launches over the past two titles, the question on everyone’s mind is, ‘will it work on launch?’

Creative Director at Visceral Game Ian Milham answered the question in an interview with Gamer Revolution.

“What you’re basically asking is, ‘Is your game going to work?’ and the answer is yes, it’s gonna work,” he said, adding that Hardline has been in development for quite some time and things are going well.

“We actually started on this more than a year before Battlefield 4 came out. We’ve been working with the DICE guys for a long time; some of our engineering work is actually in Battlefield 4 and things they’ve been doing since then. It’s in pretty great shape now and all that work is gonna come into what we’re doing.”

“We already had one very successful beta, we’re going to have another beta on every platform we ship on. We take shipping a working game pretty seriously. So, yes, the game will work.”

Visceral Games is setting the bar high for Battlefield: Hardline. Do you think the cops and robbers spin-off will live up to the promises made? Let us know in the comments below! For more Battlefield: Hardline news, keep your sights on MP1st

That’s good … Working is one of my favorite optional features in games, and I’m glad that they chose to include it in this one … This feature ROCKS

It is got the Tracer Dart. Instant buy for me.

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/WildChildTactics WildChildTactics

Well, we’ll see how that goes. We’ve been told that sort of things with previous games and the result was not so good.

    • NuttyTheSquirrel

I never heard DICE say anything like that. Nor Visceral for that matter. And yes, Battlefield 3 had some bugs, just like 1942, BF2, BF2142, BC and BC2. Minor bugs and some “netcode” problem, which is normal, since most testing is make on LAN.

BF3 and BF4 had more “netcode” problems than the others because their hit-registration is client-side.
And BF will NEVER be as good as CS in terms of “netcode”. There are too many things to have in count.

    LOL

The fact that they have to say this is pathetic in itself. Just shows how much Battlefield 4 damaged the title.

    • Just saying

It didn’t just damage, it killed the franchise. It’s been 3 months since I last played BF4 on my PS4 now and when I miss BF action, I just get on my PS3 and play BF3 with its beautiful [email protected] I might just upgrade my PC to play BF3 and feel the real action.

      • Timothy David Medric

So many things killed this game not just the working issue.

      • ShavedApe

Clearly just based on your comment the franchise hasnt been killed at all.

If the franchise was dead you wouldn’t be able to play BF3 on your PS3 and plenty of people are still playing BF4 too.
Did they damage BF4 with its launch issues sure but they definitely didn’t kill it.
If anything what they did with BF4 was shake up EA and make them realize that consumers aren’t going to continue to buy half finished games hence EA’s changes and promises since. Of course no one will really know if anything has changed at all until a few more EA titles are released.

Devs are great at communication before a games released but as soon as it is released the communication subsides significantly especially when there are problems.

        • Just saying

I didn’t say it right but I meant that it killed its future with the lack of trust between gamers and DICE/EA. For me, BF3 had a rocky start but it was acceptable just because I had fun even with the problems it had. For BF4 though, the problems was huge that it even killed the fun factor.

          • Guest

“BF3 had a rocky start but it was acceptable just because I had fun even with the problems it had.” Congrats, this mentality, being naive and having low standards is what let bf4 be ass. This is why games are terrible today because you tolerated shit in earlier titles thus creating a cycle that I’m already seeing happening again with the comments on here.

            • Just saying

I’m a guy living in the real world so I know that anything, whatever it is, will have a problem (unlike you apparently) but some problems can be tolerated, others can’t. Now, if I took this and applied it on BF3 and BF4, I’d say that both had problems but BF3 was playable and DICE kept fixing some issues but in the end it had the “fun” factor that I want which made me keep playing beyond lvl 100. BF4, on the other hand, was a complete shit and you couldn’t even play it at launch, not to mention the other balance issues and it didn’t have the “fun” factor I seek which made me only reach lvl 13 before leaving it. Anyways though, I think you’re so into games that you lost your mind bro!! I don’t give a shit about how the game professionally plays or any “pro” stuff you all talking about here. I buy the game then if I had fun, I’ll keep buying the new title in the franchise and if they fucked up with one of them then I move on to other franchise. It’s that simple to me. I don’t go to forums to complain, I don’t go to Twitter to complain or any sort of these stuff. I’m seeking the “fun” factor and that it for me.

            • Guest

Omg 2 casual for me, in your other post you just praised dice for a patch to try to fix the game after 11 months, no I’m not into games that much at all anymore, I play once every 2 weeks, to once a month and go longer, pros… Pros play at the highest level and actually understand the game and are good, I’m sorry that being knowledgeable is terrible, you are right by living in the real world, you’re part of the casual crowd that is gaming today( which isn’t bad at all)

    • NuttyTheSquirrel

Well, Battlefield 4 damaged itself, but most of the damage made was from players. I can still see people moaning “FIX THE GAME” when the game has already been more than fixed since June.

Not only that, but the CTE’s updates have been either additions to the game, or improvements.

      • Luis Filipe Silva

wut…are you serious?bf4 been ok since june lel dude the game is still broken as fk ..and more me for example last time i played was 1 and half month ago i was crashing every 2…round it wasn from my pc since i can easily run the game on ultra at 70 fps…but i still lower visuals to play at 120+ fps…damage …hit registration etc..is still broken as fk even on cte is still bad not as vanilla but still isnt in the best conditions.
for someone who plays just 1 or 2 times a week hey can say its ok but someone like me and many other dat play for long periods of time the game is still crap and will remain crap even after the cte patches.. better but still not dat gud
i hope hardline can let us forget this silly game called bf4… at least i enjoyed the beta … and seeing the guy from visceral saying dat theyre enginers are helping dice just makes me lol to them…

my bf4 has been perfect forever

Bookmark this one. It will be interesting to see how their definition of “works” changes.

  • Darkthunder

    “Will work at launch”

That’s such a LOL comment. I wouldn’t spend a single dollar on a game that doesn’t work at launch (which is also why I never bought BF4).

    • ckpinkham

Works just great now! But I’d advise holding out for a Premium Edition at this point… otherwise it’s like throwing $40 into a wood chipper.

      • MeisseN

Nah holding out for Humble Bundle edition… lel

      • Seth

That is a case by case statement. For me, it still does not work. I had it on PS4 for 3 weeks and it froze 5 times, requiring a reboot of the PS4 everytime. My location also meant that I was constantly getting into matches with players from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and who knows where else. Maybe I should move to these areas on Earth where players are not affected by the extremely diverse ping ratio on EA servers. I had the same experience both wireless and wired directly to the modem. My speeds are average for my area, 20Mbps down 2Mbps up.

        • ckpinkham

Dude, your speeds are better than mine. I don’t know what the issue is… because I average like a 1.7mbps download and less than 1mbps upload… does your PS4 freeze on other games? Perhaps it’s your console? Or maybe you should delete and re-install it, because it could have been an issue during the download/install? But it’s fixed for most players at least.

  • ItsG_Baby

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Campaign looks good to me. I enjoy the stealth-action games, like Splinter Cell Blacklist where you can go in guns blazing if you want, but also have stealth. Sadly though, the multiplayer from the beta was very lackluster. Hopefully in the 2nd beta we get larger maps and modes to see if the grappling hook and zip line are really worth anything, and see if the cops and robbers thing actually feels different from soldiers since they tweaked things. Otherwise, I’ll wait until it’s $10-15 and buy it just for the campaign.

    • xHDx

I agree. It felt empty. There should be larger maps or something to improve the experience.

      • ckpinkham

Keep in mind, there was what, one map and two modes for the beta? And it was specifically the new modes, which are supposed to be more like TDM in the map size at least… and it will probably still have conquest and perhaps rush with larger maps. Not as worried about the map size in the full game… just want to experience it in the next beta (or a free demo), before I’d be willing to spend any money on an “iffy-at-best” (imo) multiplayer. But if it feels better, and has a bigger map to play on, or hell, just a different one that’s more fun… then I may change my mind. We’ll see.

  • Just saying

So, DICE destroyed the franchise twice in a row then when it came to fixing the game, Danger Close aka DICE LA is fixing BF4 and Visceral Games is trying to fix BF name. Impressive, I must say.

  • xHDx

It’s sad that the devs have put themselves in a position, where they have to announce if the games are actually going to work before release. Personally, I don’t think it will.
The beta was ok,but was full of bugs left right and center. It’s the same with some other games which claim they’re going to be better. E.g Call of Duty. This year and the last, I’m not falling for it. It’s disgusting.

    • NuttyTheSquirrel

      I don’t think it will?

I played around 15 hours of the BETA and didn’t experience any (major) bug. I don’t remember if I saw any bug at all.
Not only that but do you really think that they would release a broken Battlefield again? It would be like shooting Battlefield in the head.

The BETA was also around 9 months away from release (rumours say that it will launch in March).

      • xHDx

I saw way to many bugs in the beta. Hell, I couldn’t even launch the game on PC half of the time. Not sure about console. It was riddled with bugs on PC.

I played around 20 hours of this game in total and I can treasure you that there were bugs.

    Notice how he’s not saying:

” Our full multiplayer suite will be operational ”

    He says: “It’ll work”

Playing it safe! lol .. this means only the disc will boot

  • http://www.dorqs.com/ Pace

Wow, they shouldn’t have been quoted on that. Basically tells me that a feature or an advantage of hardline’s multiplayer is that it will work. Well not shit it should work it, that’s what is always expected with games we buy.

  • yoav123

no RUSH mode? forget about it.

  • Guest

Well it should work, bf3 and bf4 had terrible launches and are terrible games also. BF is ass IMO now

two years later it will be fixed like bf3 least for me

    • roland0811

As far as I’ve seen BF3 still isn’t fixed. It felt like to me that it was just a cluster fuck that they rushed out to shadow it with BF4 and messed up even more with that one. DICE are just plugging holes in a sinking boat at this point.

  • Jan

For me Bf4 is messed up. BF3 was legit and i enjoied to play it and i hope Hardline can hold this level of BF3 or go a step forward and do it better. I see BF4 as one huge mistake that they shouldnt do again.

“Arcade war-emulating franchise”….FINALLY, someone who realizes Battlefield for what it is. It cracks me up when people call it a “tactical shooter”….GTFO.
