According to emails sent to some users who’ve already been through registration, the Closed Alpha begins on July 2, but participants will be able to pre-load the client on July 1. Registration closes on June 30 and users will be selected at random.

Here are the system requirements for the Closed Alpha only:

I don’t think the sign up process is working. I click the Confirm your application button and it throws me to a SORRY BUT YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE STAR WARS™ CLOSED ALPHA error page

    • ccv83b

it;s probably becouse you are not from north america as is says on conditions BTW ps4 is a main platform and closed technical tests is on pc…. dont; understand….

      • Primey_

nope tried it with a US vpn and on my american origin account.

      • Just saying

I was thinking about the same thing because I thought there would be an alpha test like BFH but who knows? Maybe PS4 will get a later alpha testing build or early beta access?!

      • BL4QKB0X

Because it’s DICE that’s why. DICE won’t put console version development ahead of PC regardless of whatever exclusive deal Sony and EA have.

        • ccv83b

ok, but stop this pc fetish by dice, they will for sure sell 100000x more units on consoles and it should be theirs no1 attention and goal -> to deliver the best product on the platforms = ps4/x1 which makes salaries for them. i’m also pc player but geez these guys are old enough to understand the difference between romantic artist and responsible craftsman :)))))

          • BL4QKB0X

I don’t have a PC fetish, its the truth. Regardless of sales just because Sony has a DLC deal with EA doesn’t mean they’re going to divert their resources specifically to PS4. Actually if I’m not mistaken, they have a console team within the main studio to work on console but ultimately it’s far more simple to do these things on PC when you can becsuse youbdont have to wait forever for Sony to say yay or nay. And because it’s on Origin, its all right there available for them.

          • NuttyTheSquirrel

You know that you can make a game for PC and for consoles and have both version be good, right?

DICE has always been one of the best PC developers (that I know of). Triple-A developers, I should had. They are one of the only devs who I know of that really support their PC versions well.

Sure, they will sell a lot more on consoles, but if you’re a developer who only cares about where you’ll be selling more, you shouldn’t be a game developer. Yes, at the end of the day, they’re there to make money. But you can make money and make good products for everyone. That’s how most companies make their money.

” it should be theirs no1 attention and goal -> to deliver the best product on the platforms = ps4/x1″

Thinking like this is what makes the gaming industry so shitty.

I don’t care if your game only sells 5000 copies on PC while it sells 3 million on consoles. Those 5000 players should have the same experience as the console players, because they are paying you the exact same amount for the game.

            • ccv83b

i can agree with your words generally, and of course the quality of the product should be the same on all platforms, what i’m thinking about is rather the responsibility aspect of the situation. in game industry in most cases you can’t afford the sufficient time or people to check the game as you wanted, you must have a priority list. best example is the last batman game and the rocksteady studio. I assume that no1 in this case were consoles and pc port was becouse of that outsourced…with known effect :))). but after all for consoles players the situation is fine, as it for rocksteady studio and the work they’ve done. Deliver low quality product for the consoles market is much more devastating in consequenses than for a pc market with relatively small sales.

final word: everyone deserves equal quality but sony/microsoft should be more flexible for such a ideas like alphas, betas, closed betas etc. the first step by x1 was made with announced preview program.

            • NuttyTheSquirrel

Exactly. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

I think that what happen to Batman was more of a communication problem. But it is still their fault. They themselves should be doing the port, first of all… And only having 10 people to work on the most complicated version of the game isn’t enough people. Specially if they need heavy testing for that version.

“DICE has always been one of the best PC developers (that I know of). Triple-A developers, I should had. They are one of the only devs who I know of that really support their PC versions well.”
Are you drunk m8? Dice? The same Dice that launched BF4? The same Dice that couldn’t fix Bf4 and had to pass it on to another studio to sort out for them? Yeah that was really good support, truly one of the best developers and they sure know how to make an awesome campaign too, lol.

            • NuttyTheSquirrel

… Since the very start they have stated that they wouldn’t be able to support BF4 for the 1,5 to 2 years that each BF game usually lives. Fixing something in a game isn’t hard. Hard is knowing what is causing that bug. They had and still have more than 3 games on their plate. Mirror’s Edge, BF whatever, Battlefront and “unannounced projects”.

BF4 was broken on every platform, but the PC support was there. I don’t know what you’re trying to imply. Since there’s observable proof that they always had amazing PC support. As I said, better than most Triple A devs.

Let’s see the list of triple A devs:

Ubisoft – the only devs there that had good PC support are the ones that make Trackmania. So we can exclude like 6 dev teams.

Rockstar – The Max Payne 3 dev team. I original is kinda shitty, but I won’t include them here since I don’t know if they helped in GTA V or not.

Activision – Sledgehammer and Treyarch have mediocre support, IW support on PC is almost non-existent.

Bandai – I don’t know much about Bandai games, but the ones I’ve played from them never had good PC support. Specially FromSoftware (makers of Dark Souls). FromSoftware is without a doubt on the bottom of the list, they Dark Souls games on PC are garbage.

Konami – Their shitty PC ports continue to impress me. MGS Ground Zeroes is the only one I can think of that is a really good PC port.

EA – Many of their games have good PC support. The Dead Space franchise is a little meh, and the last NFS game (NFS Rivals) is capped at 30fps, but overall their PC versions are pretty solid.

I can’t really think of many more Triple-A publishers. Valve maybe. Valve’s PC games are almost perfect, but they could have a bit more graphical options. Then again their Source engine is really old and doesn’t support many more graphical improvements.

So what do we have? Around 25 Triple-A devs, most the them have mediocre PC versions. Then you have Kojima Productions, DICE, Bioware, Valve, Rockstar Studios (MP3 team), and Nadeo (Trackmania team).

I would say the list goes: Rockstar Studios (MP3 team), Valve, DICE, Kojima Productions, Nadeo and Bioware.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot about CD Projekt RED. CDPK is between DICE and Kojima Productions.

            • DanDustEmOff

After BF3 and 4 they have slipped way down the rankings IMHO, if they have bitten off more than they can chew then that still doesn’t excuse the abortion that was BF4. That game made even a heavily modded Minecraft launcher look good, let alone vanilla Minecraft.

Bethesda, Avalanche, Epic, Cryteck, Blizzard, Irrational, ID software, Mojang and even Respawn and the developers you mentioned > DICE. Don’t get me wrong I really do like the look of Battlefront and if they manage to produce a well performing game that isn’t broken at launch then they will gain some places.

Battlefront is on my list of must have games this year along with Just Cause 3, Doom and Fallout 4. But I am not getting it day 1, I plan on waiting to see how the game runs before spending another penny on a DICE game.

            • NuttyTheSquirrel

Again, I’m not talking about the game itself. I’m talking about their PC support. BF3 and BF4 were broken on both consoles and PC.

And Bethesda isn’t a good PC developer, BTH. Their games are almost always shitty on PC. They don’t give you the options that are a must on PC, and most of the times you have to get mods to fix stuff. They are a good developer overall, but their PC versions aren’t that great.

BF4 launch has shit, but the game ran well on most systems, although some people were complaining about their performance on Siege. Now the game runs incredibly. The way the game looks + the performance that it has is incredible. And all the options were there for PC. That’s what I’m talking about. I’m not denying that is was shit, I’m just saying that DICE’s support on the PC version is better than most devs.

          They did with bf3

      • oofy

Maybe they have a working alpha on PC? Or, even with consoles being the lead, maybe since the architecture is so similar that it is easier for them on PC?

      • NuttyTheSquirrel

Main platform isn’t PS4. They never said it was. It is being marketed with alongside the PS4. But it isn’t its main platform.
And it’s a close alpha. Every closed alpha that I’ve known happened on PC. You can launch updates for the PC version everyday if you want to. But you can’t do that on a console. That’s one of the reasons.

    • Dy

Many people on Reddit claimed that they got same message 1 hour before your post, so it may be the room was already full at that time.

    • TRUTHBRINGER

      It’s working. No peasants allowed.

      • Primey_

It isn’t working you idiot. There is no sign up process. You’re either flagged for access or not. I never knew someone who plays on PC is a peasant.

        Stupid cunt.

        • DAN

          Apparently it’s north America only.

          • Primey_

            That is incorrect.

  • Tyler Dominick

Was sent an invite earlier today! So stoked for this!

I guess all of the applicant spaces have been filled because it seems everyone is getting this:

        ikr, gib dis nou

        • NuttyTheSquirrel

At least we will (most likely) get leaked footage. But I want to play it so bad.

          • xHDx

I have faith in it design wise. However, not but wise. I don’t have good feelings about that.

    • Derpslayer

Nope, not “everyone”, only johnny come latelies.

Can’t wait to start playing on Tuesday.

      • xHDx

This article was only published yesterday. Not my fault xD

        • TRUTHBRINGER

Means you aren’t a real BF player, since people that play Battlefield games saw it right away on Battlelog.

          • xHDx

I don’t use Battlelog, and I unsubscribed because they spam Mail all of the time. Plus, Battlefield has nothing to do with Battlefront. I got bored of Hardline and BF4 a long time ago mate.

    • Leon

Are you in North America? If not then no luck.

      • xHDx

my friend tried from NA and it didn’t work. He got the same webpage.

        • Leon

I see. I’ve got it to but I am in Europe.

  • TheGamerBeast

    i got an invite today

    • NuttyTheSquirrel

      I HATE YOU! :'(

      #༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つGiveALPHA

  • Mr Frags

Should be on all platforms IMO.

    • Derpslayer

      This isn’t a demo, kid.

And Microsoft/Sony taking weeks to validate a game isn’t exactly conducive to alpha software that may need rapid same-day updates like only PC platform can provide.

      • Mr Frags

I wasn’t asking for a demo. We know that these rapid updates are possible on Xbox One because it now supports the CTE (for Preview members), so that’s not a problem.

Point is, the Alpha should be on all platforms to test how the game runs on more than just PC.

  • DAN

Sweet, def going to check this out. THANKS !
    Seems to be full :(

With Dice’s history of their past 2 games, an “alpha ” this close to release scares me
