Details Emerge on PC-Exclusive Legacy of Kain: Nosgoth, May Come to Other Platforms

Nosgoth’s existence was revealed accidentally last month, but there were few details regarding the first multiplayer entry in the Legacy of Kain series. Thanks to a new Q&A session with community manager George Kellion, we know more specifics on what Legacy of Kain: Nosgoth is and isn’t.

Considering the setting, Nosgoth seemed to be a shoe-in for the MOBA or MMO genre. Turns out that is not the case for Nosgoth as Kellion clarified:

Nosgoth is not an MMO. It’s a competitive online multiplayer experience (…with a bit of a twist). Nosgoth will not be an MMORPG and Nosgoth doesn’t look or play anything like DoTA2 or LoL.

While Nosgoth is unlike any other competitive online multiplayer game that I’ve played or am familiar with, the closest comparison is probably Unreal Championship 2. Not sure if Nosgoth is all that similar, but I suppose it’s closer to that than a traditional LoK game, an MMO or a MOBA.

Nosgoth is a third-person game; there’s no first-person camera available.

Kellion also stated that Nosgoth is currently intended for PC only and not for the mobile market, but it could expand to other platforms in the future. An interesting post over on NeoGAF by Mama Robotnik not only contains plenty of artwork for the cancelled single-player entry Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun, but also speculates how the multiplayer only Nosgoth came about. Dead Sun was intended to be a PS4 launch title and was set to include a multiplayer component. With Dead Sun cancelled, it seems the multiplayer component was pulled from the ashes and made into Nosgoth. Considering the series strong attachment to Sony consoles, it seems likely Nosgoth could eventually be released for the system it was being built for.

Kellion was quick to point out that Nosgoth was revealed a bit earlier than intended. Those looking for screenshots and videos, much less a definitive release date, will have to wait.

Q: Is there any specific date (or season) that you are all planning on revealing Nosgoth?”

A: Yes, but I can’t reveal what it is yet. We announced the game early and gave details on its context, but I’m afraid there’s gonna be a bit of a gap between now and the time we release screenshots etc.

Right now, we’re all heads-down and nose to the grindstone in the preparation phase, getting all the various materials in place etc, and we want to make sure that the game feels right before speaking about it more plainly and openly.”

Kellion seemed to place a particular emphasis on the variety of weapons that will be included in the game. While no bullets will be present, expect to see swords, crossbows, and flamethrowers.
