Battlefield 4 Beta on Next-Gen Consoles a ‘Problem We Cannot Solve’, Says DICE

Matt Cuttle of FTW sits down with DICE executive producer Patrick Bach to talk Battlefield 4 and the upcoming beta set to launch publicly on October 4 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Of course, there are a number of ways to gain early access, beginning on October 1, which Bach explains in the video. He also give some insight as to the awkward situation regarding next-generation consoles, saying that the best case scenario would have been to allow gamers to test the Battlefield 4 on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well. Alas, it’s a problem that the studio simply ‘cannot solve’.

Check out the video below!

On what platform will you be playing the Battlefield 4 beta and on what day do you have access?

  • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

“We want to give something extra to the people that we find more ‘Premium’” I like :D

    • Jamie Marques

Hopefully premium is gonna have a tonne of exclusive content….:D

    • Just saying

I have a bad feeling that BF4 premium will be the same as BF3′s but I can’t help but buying it. I love the game :)

    • Craig Barlettani

they’re not gonna give a competitive advantage to premium players.. it will most likely be a lot of cosmetic stuff

    • guitargladiator94

isn’t he just referring to the 3 days of early beat access???

  • BroJ

This is not really a big deal for me. The core experience like weapons, gadgets and vehicles will be the same on all platforms which is what a beta is for anyway. And of course testing the net-code. But if anybody can figure it out it’s DICE. I am sure there will be a day one patch on all platforms anyway.

For your question on what platform for beta. Xbox 360 for the beta, then when game releases I am renting it on PS3, then transferring my stats to PS4 when I get my system.

    • Kyle Jackson

Woah bro, that totally awesome, and deep comment just blew my mind bro.

  • zacflame

I have early beta keys for PS3.
I’m going back and forth between that and GTA online.

    • BroJ

Did they send the keys out already?

      • zacflame

Not really keys, if you’re signed in as the same account you have MoH or premium, you’re in.

        • BroJ

          Ok cool.

        • BroJ

          Ok cool.

        • Just saying

you mean the Oct. 1st access or did you get unexplained early access?

    • Izzy Bozz

Do you know the download size of the beta file?

      • zacflame

        Don’t know.
All I know is that I might have to delete inFamous and Shadow of the Colossus.
Poor Bioshock didn’t make it through my GTAV installation.

        • Work hard Twerk harder

Dat 9GB goodness, totally worth it.
Little off topic but I’ll be enjoying the last DLC for BO2 (yey PS3 comes last) coming this thursday then GTA Online with it, hopefully we both enjoy the upcoming stuff!
BTW, I am a little late I assume, but is there any way I could get me a BF4 beta key now for PS3 since I’m thinking of trying out BF again next gen?

          • CoDforever

A cod fan that plays every game. IS THIS FAKE !???

            • Work hard Twerk harder

I’m the last of my kind, well mannered, enjoys varied games and likes slow walks on the beach :D

      • SamRock

The Alpha was about 4.3 GB. So if they are giving us the same map again..one can expect approx same size this time around too.

  • CoDforever

Dont you think having a beta on current gen console for cod fans to play is gonna give them a bad imppression of the game

    • BroJ

What? BF fans could give a shit less about COD fans. I welcome COD fans on BF as they are easy game and points.

You can usually spot them in the open shooting a tank with a SMG or running in circles with people signalling they need ammo or health at them.

      • CoDforever

No one cares what you think on this matter EA’s goal is basically to reduce cod sales

        • FpsGamer221

Oh, btw not hating the cod game itself. I’m done with the series but play what you enjoy and I do the same. In the end we are all gamers

        • Eni

          You fucking piece of shit.
Your name is CODforever which means you are most likely a CoD fanboy or you are just crazy.
If you like CoD so fucking much, get out of Battlefield posts posting shit like this when really no one gives a shit.
Sorry mate but I have seen you too much in these Battlefield news posts saying negative stuff and I see you also in the CoD Ghosts news saying Ghosts is the best and shit like that.
Most of these people here (including me) will get Battlefield 4 and enjoy it. Period.
          Have a good day.

      • Markdg23

You can spot me in your face putting boot to ass every game mode, every match and I have less than 2 Days played on BF3 because I primarily play CoD. Don’t get started with your superiority argument because it’s invalid. See YOU in the beta, don’t hide because I’ll find you!

        • Just saying

I’m not hating on CoD players but every CoD player that I started a similar argument with ended up beaten hardcore. BF is way more skill based than CoD. In CoD, you need fast response and that’s what get the kill. No tactics involved. BF on the other hand, needs skilled aiming at all ranges, at least one vehicle experience, knowing of the map very well to have an edge of sudden back or side attacks on bases to capture. The list can go on all day. BF is an all out war bro not an infantry based game alone.

          • CoDforever

No tactics involved in CoD? Have you ever heard of competitive cod ? (something bf doesnt support lol). I wanna see you go up against any pro cod team and gett merked LOL and then say there is no skill involved. 4v4, each player has a role to fulfill, An Anchor, A slayer, A OBJ player and a support player. And dont even get me started on how much positioning and thinking is required in Search and Destroy ALONE

            • Just saying

As I said earlier, CoD is a who shoots first game. No other way to look at it. I didn’t mention competitive gameplay if you mean Clan Battles. BF3 has CB and it’s the dido notion of team play not like CoD. It’s way much tactics dependent unlike who got the better inet connection and aiming first. BF is deeply based on skill, you can’t say I’m a fast responsive guy who shoots first and wins all gunfights. In BF you can be the first one to open fire but fail to keep on target on long distance while the has better grip on his weapon so he shoots after but get perfect hit on you. That’s what I like, an always skilled-team based game not a who got the faster inet leading to shooting first.

            • FpsGamer221

Woah, chill out with that so called SnD “tactics” on cod. SnD on cod is a dumbed down piss easy version of demolition/bomb mode from counter strike. Play bomb mode on cs go then see what game really uses tactics. Cod’s competitive SnD is boring as hell to watch compared to the real eSport bomb mode game which is CSGO

            • James Mulhall

              Ew, CS:GO.

            • FpsGamer221

Lol. You called it ew and you got a down vote and it wasn’t from me. Lol shows how wrong you are

            • BroJ

I have went against clans in BF with randoms and owned there ass. Clans at least on BF are the worst admin abusers. When they are getting butt hurt by randoms chances of you staying in the game is next to impossible. One of the many reasons i cannot stand Rent A server.

          • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

You’d be surprised. I’d argue that there is actually a lot of skill involved in playing Call of Duty at a real competitive level. I’ve seen it first hand (COD Championship, MLG Anaheim). It’s quite skill-based, albeit it might be more individual than team-oriented. Like you said, however, Battlefield has all these factors that make for extremely tactical gameplay, something other shooters lack, making it a very team-oriented game.

Battlefield has the makings of competitive play, but it just needs that support, which DICE and EA seem to be giving it this fall, hopefully.

            • CoDforever

Battlefield can support comp. but the problem is, the game is simply boring to watch. No one really wants to watch 30 minute game play of people taking minutes to find one an other. The other thing is, as i said before, the gamemodes are kinda lame to WATCH. Hardpoint in Black ops 2 was really fun to play and watch from a spectators mode. Even if im completely wrong of what i said above, the game will most likely be played on pc for competitive. Nothing wrong with that, but sadly thats a small fraction of the entire Battlefield player population. Im not sure about this but, i hear the PC version of BF3 sold a little more than 1.5million units. Ofcourse, “playing” bf3 competitively is a whole different story, it’ll be fun :)

            • QwietStorm

              Oh Christ..

            • Just saying

I don’t know if you mean competitive as in championships or normal clan battles? For me, once you tried playing with your clan in clan battle, you can’t play alone. Just the way we make our tactics for each possible situation that we could face on the battlefield makes me love this game more than any other FPS out there. It has so much to consider before going into clan battles. Who will take the Air and how? Who will take the tanks to give cover while infantry secure bases? Who will be a full time transport heli driver to give us alternative spawning? It’s just awesome to organize this and win in the end. Gives you the feeling of all out war slogan :)

            • Craig Barlettani

              nerd alert

            • Just saying

Just because I enjoy the game, you say nerd alert. CoD fans these days.

            • Craig Barlettani

I actually like both games… I’m not a fanboy like you that sticks to one game

            • Just saying

Lol so you say that I’m a nerd because you thought I play BF3 only! I’m really sad to tell you that I have played black ops and MW3 and not only just solo playing, I played for clans so I pretty much experienced CoD but I didn’t sense a change from those two in BO2!

            • mechcell

Daniel Matros was talking about it at TGS @ 6:03

              http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8l08c_gPPM

            • Ryan Schulze

Great video. For those that don’t want to sit through the TGS tour, skip ahead to the 6 minute mark and interview is in English.

          • Cycovision

And this is why I hate the Battlefield community. It hardly takes any skill, any tactics and hardly any teamwork to play BF. Not saying CoD does, but the only difference between the two is spacial and time scales. One is slower paced on larger maps and one is faster paced on smaller map.
The community also can’t handle a lot of things so you get a lot of No this or no that servers.

            • dpg70

You give players in other shooters the ability to limit weapons or ban players and you can bet your ass they’ll be just as bad, if not worse.

        • BroJ

I do not play team deathmatch so I probably will not see you. But if you are in Conquest enjoy watching a death screen.

          • Markdg23

I Play all game modes I don’t discriminate and act like I’m too superior for any game modes and you will get beasted on son

      • Work hard Twerk harder

If i remember correctly though the BF3 beta on consoles made a huge impact on preorder sales (i can’t remember the exact stats no more since it was awhile back now) which would’ve been them CoD guys most likely. Basically all i’m saying is the public betas aren’t that effective, especially if preorder sales drop significantly, and that’s where in my opinion EA make a mistake (I’m a CoD fan but I don’t think that changes the facts)

        • brojjj

Yeah just because of the non BF metro map.

      • SamRock

Dont forget – Trying to revive dead enemies.

        • BroJ

          So true.

      • dpg70

He’s right. We really don’t care. Stay. Go. It makes no difference to us.

    • QwietStorm

      Don’t you ever stop?

  • you’re an idiot

Their pronunciation of Beta really pisses me off for some reason

    • Work hard Twerk harder

It’s BAY-TAH. It’s more annoying when people say mull-tie player instead of mull-tee player

      • SamRock

Words are pronounced differently in different countries. You guys cant just get “annoyed” because it doesnt sound like yours.

        • zakrocz

          So true!!!

        • Hol_Up

but technically it is “Baytah”. Alpha, BETA (BAYTAH). Not Alpha, BEETA.

        • Work hard Twerk harder

Not only different countries, more annoying when someone in the UK watches too much American TV and pronounce words different, or even change words (like trash, hate that word).
But yeah i’m just speaking out loud, same with the other guy so we don’t mean to be making a fuss :P

      • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

In Canada, we say mul-tee-player. Is it mostly mul-tie-player down in the states?

        • Gannon

Definitely. I’ve only heard it as mul-tie-player here in the states

        • SamRock

Yeah.. even in my country and I am sure around its the same:

          Mul-tee Player
          Mul-tee Media
          Mul-tee ple
          Mul-tee Race

        • Work hard Twerk harder

Well I’m from the UK and I hear mul-tee the majority of the time, could just be some hipsters trying to pronounce words different or like you said, the states say it. Ee-ther way (or is it eye-ther!?) it can be annoying at times.

        • oofy

          mul-tih-player?

        • Mad Patriot

Yes, in the states, we pronounce it Mul-tie-player, but really, who cares….different dialects

      • Hisashi Uga

Come to Japan. It’s quite jaw-dropping. To me, mull-tie and mull-tee just sound same….lol Bee-Tah and Bay-Tah sound differently though.

        • http://www.facebook.com/datkidfromawendaw Clay Johnson

I guess no one here has ever heard of accents and everyone speaks English the same when speaking in English.

    • dpg70

It pisses me off when they call it a beta instead of a demo.

  • Jaxon

It says 12 comments but i can only see yours.

  • hm

    Jeez, DICE, it’s pronounced BAY-tah not BEE-tah.

    • WarBroh

Here’s my advice, 1) don’t sweat the small shit.

      • oofy

        shite?

    • B_Boss

He’s European you bigot lol…You’d think you people understood differing cultures, languages, accents and the like in 2013….

      • Mr. Thuggins

I think it takes a little bit more to be a bigot than to complain about the pronunciation of a word lol.

        • B_Boss

Hence my “lol” afterward just a ‘jab’. It also depends on what you believe I meant by the term. I was responding to the particular meaning:

“Though a meaning of the term is: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices”

But honestly it would be foolish for me to assume hm is a racist of some sort based on his comment lol. Now way.

  • BroJ
  • dee breezy

I’m not getting this? Doesnt the consoles come out after bf4? What is he talking about?

    • BroJ

No the Next gen versions of BF4 comes out 2 days before the consoles comes out. Nov 12 for PS4 and Nov 19 or 20th for Xbox one.

      • dee breezy

oh so you’re telling me i was right all along

  • roland0811

    Sooooo……they AREN’T going to finish BF3? Allllllllllrighty then……

    • http://www.facebook.com/datkidfromawendaw Clay Johnson

      What are you talking about?

      • roland0811

Fix the numerous day one glitches (still glitching in, out and all through Metro among other maps, still getting shot around corners, still running into bullet sponges, still being glitched out of the mortar or thrown down the road when vaulting over something and dying, etc). Put some decent DLC out (one good map per DLC isn’t good enough). Fix the glitches in the mediocre DLC they did release. Finally balance the game. Fix the mortar (SEVERELY underpowered and with a pathetic 315m range….DICE are incompetent when it comes to indirect fire weapons) and claymore (love watching 3 people run right in front of my claymore with no effect). Tanks still sliding around like they’re on ice, jets still “hovering” when they want (not talking about the F35), Stingers still hitting helicopters to no effect….I could go on all day.

    • B_Boss

      Please define “finish” in context.

  • Dark Descent

Are they ever going to do something great with the veteran levels?
