Rumor – Destiny Website Hints At Potential Beta Via Pre-Order

Those who have been eyeing Bungie’s latest IP, Destiny, releasing for both current and next-generation consoles sometime early next year may get the chance to try it out early, according to the game’s website.

An interesting piece of coding within the website spotted by Reddit member Patefaps, who has discovered the following:

Beta Access for people who Pre-Order from select sellers – line 1778 to 1780 shows this little snippet of code: ” Pre-order Destiny at select retailers and receive admission to the Destiny Beta. Play it first. Become Legend.

Interestingly enough, the above coding only appeared in the Canadian and United Kingdom version of the site, suggesting that the beta may only be available in those two markets, unless it was already removed from the US site. Unfortunately, as of this writing, the coding has also been removed from all websites.

Furthermore, some of the retailers such as Amazon and Gamestop set to carry Destiny when it’s released make no mention of a beta for Destiny.

  • CoDforever

This game will be perfect to play alongside call of duty.

    • CoDforever

Whats with all the downvotes? did i say something wrong ?

      • Joel Santana

Same thing I was wondering. But, I’m guessing it’s due to you mentioning CoD.

        • CoDforever

Lol when you go to a bf article people mention CoD all the time

          • Raymond Featherston

That is irrelevant, I actually quite enjoyed your post, but two “wrongs” for lack of a better word do not make a right. People posting about BF on non-BF articles does not make it any more acceptable for you to do so with CoD.

            • Raymond Featherston

He didn’t say anything about people posting BF stuff 0_o.

          • Raymond Featherston

So because other people do it, it makes it ok for you to do it? Be part of the solution and not the problem lol! That being said I see nothing wrong with that post, but this is a consistent problem here, and not to be rude but especially with you.

        • Raymond Featherston

I didn’t downvote and I actually upvoted is post, but if I had to guess it would be because of his less than awesome reputation around here.

        • Kyle Jackson

          What’s COD?

        • CoDforever

Well it aint my fault they are so butthurt that i enjoy another piece of entertainment. I wasnt going off topic either – I was just saying that I will be a happy gamer and play each game alongside one another.

        • Raymond Featherston

I am just curious, but why were my comments completely removed but both Mr. CoD’s (his were edited but remain) and your’s remain?

          • CoDforever

Yeah same happening to me, did they hire new mods ? This will always be my first stop for gaming news regardless if CoDforever is banned or not

            • Raymond Featherston

It is not exactly the same thing, you were in a way “flaming” a war not on the article per say but on many other ones. Not to be conceited but some of your comments do deserve to be taken out, but on the other hand I do not understand why mine are getting removed when what I have been posting is not flaming anything and says nothing inherently wrong. That is the part I am starting to get frustrated over.

            • CoDforever

But here in particular, i said nothing wrong against Bf or anything .. Doesnt Flame bate mean insulting other readers directly ? Because i for sure dont do that specifically but to ppl in general (Bf fanboys, Cod haters etc)

            • Raymond Featherston

No, it means causing an argument as to what is better (EX: PS vs. Xbox or CoD vs. BF) and as a consequence causing problems pertaining to the friendly atmosphere of a site/thread. Even by mentioning CoD on the majority of articles when they don’t involve it could be interpreted as flaming a war between the subject of the article and CoD. I honestly do not understand why you feel the need to bring it up constantly.

            • http://mp1st.com/ David Veselka

Sorry Raymond. Like I mentioned earlier, we tend to delete entire conversations that stem from something off topic. Nothing wrong with your comments :)

            • Raymond Featherston

Haha, it is ok I just was not sure what was going on. I appreciate your guy’s fantastic work, and keep it up!

            • Sgt. Mofo

Ray – your e-mail doesn’t work so I’ll copy and paste my message:

              Hi Ray (..or Joel?) -

I just wanted to clarify why your comments were deleted. While there was nothing wrong with the contents of your posts per se, they were still off-topic. I moderated CoDForever’s posts, as opposed to deleting them, so they could be shown as an example to others of posts we don’t want. When someone has to start scrolling vertically through several comments that have nothing to do with the article, this can prove to be frustrating for users and even make them not want to bother commenting.

I hope you continue to comment and visit us at MP1st. Just try not to feed the trolls.

              - Tom G

People are clicking on this article to read and comment about Destiny. Name calling and switching focus to other topics (how many downvotes someone has, what constitutes flame baiting, etc.) isn’t allowed. If you’re going to bring another game into the conversation, somehow make it relate to Destiny.

            • CoDforever

I was on topic still, i said how destiny would be perfect

            • Sgt. Mofo

…which is why your first comment didn’t get moderated. It was the only one discussing Destiny. All the others made no mention of it. If you want to continue this discussion, make use of e-mail instead.

      • CoDforever alone

You showing up on any article pretty much guarantees you a down vote.

    • CoDforever alone

You and Call of Duty. LOL. Tiny little COD minds cannot handle games of this depth. Why would you bring COD on a destiny article. Really?

      • swipe_06

Look who’s talking. You got a pavlovian reflex for the words “Call Of Duty”. Just mentioning it sends you to a downvote spree.

  • That guy you might know

I don’t know why, but I just lost interest in this game.
At first my hype was 10/10, now its 2/10.

Maybe it was the lack of news and info released, maybe its just most shooters in general now. I’ll pick this up maybe, later along the next-gen release.

    • Joel Santana

I’m with you on the whole losing interest, but like you said. It’s due to lack of news.

I know it won’t be out for a few months, but this is an new IP and it’s best that they keep people informed since Destiny is brand new and a lot of people probably haven’t heard of it.

      • That guy you might know

I like the concept behind it, and it may be the closest thing to Halo without an Xbox.

But Bungie is too quiet about it, give us a bit of news, but don’t leave us hanging D:

      • CoDforever alone

You do know this is Bungie we are talking about here. They are not going to mess this up. They pretty much wrote the book on addictive FPS action and they will do the same with this mutiplayer/co-op experience.

        • Joel Santana

You must’ve forgotten about Halo: ODST and Halo: Reach. ;)

          • CoDforeveralone

Halo: ODST was not that great but it was descent and Reach I thought was one of the best Halo games far surpassing Halo 4 in my opinion. What you do not realize is they milked the franchise to death and still milking it I might add. This is there new franchise with all the people who worked on the original Halo games so there chances of failing is rather slim.

            • softgrip

:) Thank you for reminding me this cartoon exists.

              Awesome Reach! (NSFW)

            • That guy you might know

              This video makes me happy.
              Forever

              Makes no sense?
              Why should it.

          • Katana67

I’ve been seeing a lot of this retconning lately of whether Reach was good or not. If you don’t think it was a good game, you’re of course entitled to that assessment/opinion. But there is no consensus.

I really don’t get where this trend of condemning Reach stems from. At the time, it was reviewed with emphatic positivity. Likewise, it was relatively bug free and had a great multiplayer (Cry more about Armor Lock people, all MP games have stupid things). The story was layered, emotive, and in keeping with Halo’s true military S.F. roots that have since been outright abandoned in Halo 4.

Reach was certainly an appropriate send off for Bungie, and it was nice to have a truly devoted story not devoted to Master Chief. I thought ODST got way too much flak for what it was. I enjoyed it quite a bit, I guess not that many people really enjoy the military S.F. that the entire franchise was founded upon. ODST certainly wasn’t as epic as Halo 3, but then again it wasn’t meant to be. Both were partially meant to flesh out the universe of Halo, mainly in an effort to not be so Chief-centric.

I think something that can be agreed upon by both parties, is that Bungie’s games are great. Some might not be as great as the others, but they are all, in themselves great.

    • SufferingMoon5

Yeah, the hype is definitely down especially with a June release date. I still think it will be great especially on next-gen.

      • That guy you might know

        I’m fine with June
I think I won’t be taking any classes, so it gives me enough time to play it without any disturbances.

    • Katana67

I love how we’ve now equated “hype”, whatever that means, with “interest”.

I would love a definition, from anyone, of “hype” and how it is good or bad. People keep talking about “hype” as if it’s some sort of quantifiable entity. Or as if developers are at fault for hyping or not hyping their product.

Moreover, who cares? I lost immediate interest in DayZ SA because of the impending Fall clusterf*** of video games, yet I’m not here saying it as if it’s a bad thing. Do I want it? Yes. Will I be purchasing it? Of course. Do I care how it ends up? Absolutely. Do I think it will be a wonderful game? You bet.

It doesn’t mean the developers are at fault, or that the product will be anything less than it will be. So why attach this vague, unquantifiable aspect to something when you know damn well that if it is indeed a decent product, you’ll buy it anyway.

When did the advertisement/hype/developer message become more important, or even spoken of in the same breath, as a decent end product?

      • That guy you might know

Well, I’d said I’d pick it up. Calm down.
For me Hype = “Holy crap, this game looks amazing, I plan on getting it”
Interest = “That looks nice, I’ll check out some gameplay and see if it’s something I’d like”

I saw the announcement, loved it, and wanted to get it. I haven’t heard much about it and my attention was slowly taken away from it with other games I was equally as interested in. The lack of info on the game wasn’t helping much. So it decided just to get it later on.

I’m not too interested in stacking my PS4 list with FPS games anyway, so waiting until later is in my best interest.

I want to know about a game before I just blindly buy it, enough detailed info will get me interested. Too much kinda gives the game away, and leaves the surprise.

        • Katana67

It’s just baffling, to me, why anyone would let the “hype” of a game sway their interest. Or for that matter, adversely affect the way you see the game to any minor degree.

I just don’t understand the need to constantly be fed information about a game, much less a game which (mind you) we’ve heard a lot about already. It’s not like we’ve heard nothing about Destiny, we know a great deal about the game.

And it wasn’t necessarily an indictment of your views in particular, just how people throw around the vague term of “hype” as if it’s something that actually matters.

          • That guy you might know

Hype is more of a personal thing to me, its not usually affected by what others say about a game. Just me showing my excitement the best way I can without overusing “My body is ready”. Which it was

The information is just a basis to know what I’m playing, I don’t mind getting a game knowing nothing about it. But with a game like this, I would like to know what they plan on doing with it, like competitive game modes, mechanics, etc.
If there’s something there I would very much be happy to see happen in the game, it would raise my hopes for said game.

Well my apologies about that, staying up late does that to ya.

      • CoDforever alone

Exactly, if i see something that looks good or interests me more than likely I am going to try it or buy it. There is games that get major hype and end up failing miserably AKA. Aliens Coloniel Marines. But I would bet $100 somebody enjoyed that game. It is all what you enjoy. It is when you start bashing other games and bringing other games in articles that have no business being there. Like bringing COd in a Destiny article or Bf article. They are all different and millions of people enjoy all of them for some reason. Who cares?

        • CoDforeveralone

Also before the PC fanboys start saying Next gen cannot do between high and Ultra settings. here is the video of DICE saying that. So all the articles and people saying it is medium settings is full of shit. That was old ass code and DICE will optimize all the way till release.

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNDq6N6eZ0k

          • Katana67

I don’t really like to endorse the whole PC vs. Console thing, as I own both and enjoy both for different reasons. However, whenever I play BF3 on PC (which is rare, as I play it on console mostly) I can -never- find a full room. There’s only a few servers with people in them (on Hardcore). Am I missing something?

            • disqus_Iy2nAhqKeV

I have the same problems. I can never find a good hardcore server. I play it because it is more realistic. Then you got people that say it is easy mode so why is everybody not playing it then. I think because BF has got a lot more noobs in it then people realize and I am not just talking about low level players. I have seen level 100,s who are worst than low level players. Guess they got to level 100 by boosting or hoarding Metro and Medic class which DICE needs to fix because boosting is cheating in my book.

Let me burst your bubble, but bunny hopping your way to victory in normal mode is not skill. I see it daily and even I am guilty of it, but I only do it when I am being sniped at.

            • Katana67

I don’t play it because it solely because it’s more realistic, necessarily, as “realism” really is sort of a non-issue in BF. However, yes, Hardcore is more responsive. It still has a long way to go as far as I’m concerned and I hope they’ve improved it a bit in BF4.

I agree, there are a LOT of level 100′s with far, far, far less time played than me with far worse stats. It’s baffling as to how people get 100 so quickly, and I’m only like an 87 or something. The majority of them suck, but then the majority of (insert game here) players suck, which is why I think things like Recon get a lot of flak. It’s not that they’re ineffective, or somesuch, but that it’s harder to do well… and there are a lot of people who just simply aren’t good… thus the effect is compounded when a bad player is sniping and has nothing to do with the act of sniping itself.

Bunny hopping is annoying, and needs to be mitigated. Similarly to how they’re putting in a lag from when one starts to sprint to when you’re at full sprint. Jumps should either diminish in height, or you should have some sort of limit on how many jumps you can do in succession.
