According to reports, recently laid off contractors stationed at EA’s Ghost Games studio were offered positions at Visceral Games to aid with production on a new police-themed Battlefield game, code-named Havana.

Ghost Games, formerly known as EA Gothenburg, were responsible for last year’s Need for Speed: Rivals and are said to be working on another Need for Speed game as they now lead the franchise.

“Ghost is now leading Need for Speed and there will certainly be some announcements about how that will evolve and work in the near future,” Marcus Nilsson, executive producer on the game, told Polygon. “Criterion is doing something else, but that doesn’t mean they can’t help us on this.”

Last we heard of Criterion Games, the studio was rumored to be working on a brand new Battlefield spin off to release during EA’s 2015 financial year, which would likely translate to a release this Fall.

“We spoke with management on Thursday afternoon, and although they have not yet announced a version of Battlefield for FY15, they confirmed that our understanding is spot on and that if a version of Battlefield were to be released in FY15, it would be developed by a studio other than DICE,” Wedbush Morgan analyst Pachter said.

According to Polygon’s sources, that spin off could be a police-themed Battlefield game in development at Visceral Games, due out this year.
