Raiden Returns in Mortal Kombat X, Check Out His Godly Fighting Skills

NeverRealm Studios unveils ‘who’s next’ to join the Mortal Kombat X roster, launching later next year.

Closing off the Injustice: Gods Among Us finals at the Evolution Fighting Championship 2014, Mortal Kombat co-creator and franchise director Ed Boon took the stage to unveil Raiden as the latest roster addition to the upcoming fighter.

Check out Raiden’s godly fighting skills in action above. As with all characters, he’ll have three different variations called Thunder God, Displacer, and Storm Lord.

UPDATE: In a video interview with IGN, Boon described Raiden’s three different fighting styles. Raiden’s Thunder God style allows him to finish off combos with “crazy electricity blasts.” His Displacer style focuses primarily on teleporting abilities. Lastly, the Storm Lord variation gives Raiden the ability to drop “bombs” in the arena and connect them with damaging electricity.

If you’ve been following Ed Boon’s Twitter recently, then you would’ve seen the new character reveal coming a mile away. We weren’t certain exactly who it was going to be, but we had a few likely guesses.

Mortal Kombat X will release for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platform sometime in the year 2015.

YES! MK is not MK without him

  • theplantain

this shxt looks insane!! being a longtime fan, i’ll definitely get MKX, play it for some time then trade it when i start getting my behind handed to me online

  • MegaMan3k

I’m so terrible at all fighting games but this looks cool and I’ll buy it anyway because why not yknow why not

    • theplantain

same here buddy, i’ve just always liked the MK universe

    • Mitch

Same here. MK9 was my first Fighting game, and I bought it because I played the demo like a buttonsmasher :p

    • thatoneguy

Just takes practice. IMO MK is one of the easier games to master compared to like tekken, street fighter, and killer instinct. A lot less buttons in combos.

      • Enochrewt

Yeah, I love MK but it definitely is the most forgiving out of all the fighters as fars as execution. Links are few and far between, and the input buffer is huge. Even some of the flashy teleport combos in this video are probably three buitton string, teleport, two button string, teleport, special move. If that was MK9 that would most likely all be bufferable with very little timing involved.

That said WOW teleport cancelable strings with lighting traps that connect? Sign me up, I need a new main as both of my MK9 mains are not in this game.

  • NiftyGam3r

Had to change my pants twice before the video was over. About damn time they made all his attacks thunder based… He is a thunder god after all

    • Yevgenij Pekurovskyy

Yes, more attacks overall. In mk9 you have to rely only on his teleport and “superman” move

      • Raymond Featherston

I wouldn’t say you had to rely on the superman move, my best combos with him doesn’t utilize it at all and they deal 29 to 49%.

        • Yevgenij Pekurovskyy

i do it only when people spam projectiles (ex version of it)

  • Rob Machado

    That fatality tho!

  • Jacob Hannah

    Looks legit.

  • ChatWraithUpsilon

Anyone else think this game’s x-ray attacks are too extreme…?

I feel like they’re just fatalities themselves. They should all be bone-breakers or otherwise crippling moves….not Sword-through-the-neck-into-spine-sever.

    • Joel Santana

Tbh, they’re supposed to be extreme. Hell, Baraka’s X-Ray from MK9 is pretty much a fatality.

      • ChatWraithUpsilon

true, but most are bone-breakers only

      • VEX_VEHIX

        So true.

They were are pretty sweet though. Can’t wait to see all of the moves in MKX.

    • VEX_VEHIX

      I agree, but still cool.

How did Raiden survive the stick through neck/spine snap? Lol

  • Zacflame

I was worried for a while, but I’m glad the “Yamiyakaveeee” sound returns during the “Superman dive”.

I like this game a lot. It’s very extreme! Remind me of this game: http://owlgames24.com/grand-prix/

  • Josh

Good to see Raiden but to be honest, not to keen on his xray move. Really like his variations and the fatality but the xray just didn’t suit me well lol

  • Brandon Griffin

At 2:14 in the video I’m pretty sure raiden would be dead

    • VEX_VEHIX

Lol. Too extreme for a regular move tbh.

  • thebulky1cometh

Haven’t played a MK since maybe the original PlayStation, but this looks pretty badass.
