The Division to Have “Little or no Interruption” Between PvP, Co-Op, and Solo Play

In The Division, developer Ubisoft Massive hopes to create an open, living, breathing world that integrates seamlessly into the game’s solo play, co-operative play, and competitive play with “with very little or no interruption.”

It might sound a little ambitious, but with the studio’s powerful new Snowdrop engine, they aim to create a true next-gen experience on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

“The game is built around seamless online integration,” Massive recently said in a Q&A. “Going from playing alone, to playing in a group, to playing PvP will all be handled with very little or no interruption.”

Much like the scenario depicted in the game’s initial reveal trailer, players will be able to shift from one experience to the other with no hassle.

“In the game you will be able to team up with a group of friends in co-op and jump in and jump out at any time,” Massive says. “In certain areas, you can also seamlessly engage in PvP and experience dangerous, suspenseful scenarios; but you will be able to play as a group without being exposed to PvP.”

Players will also be able to explore a gigantic landscape in The Division that Massive believes “is going to be the largest and most detailed New York City ever seen in a video game and we want the player to feel like they are actually exploring the city with all its landmarks, street names and atmosphere.”

With the Snowdrop engine, showcased at last year’s VGX Awards, Massive wants to “create a universe offering a wide variety of features, such as a reactive living-world system with complex AI, procedural destruction and dynamic global illumination,” the studio said.

“We are also able to integrate more objects than ever before in the environment in order to create a devastated New York City that looks both realistic and frightening.”

Still, no solid release date is set for The Division, but keep your sights on MP1st for more on the game.
