The Witcher Remake Announced by CD Projekt RED

While we still don’t have a release date for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s current-gen (PS5, Xbox Series) release, CD Projekt RED decided to drop a bomb today, as it announced The Witcher Remake is in development!

Announced on the game’s official website, The Witcher Remake will be built using Unreal Engine 5, and is the “Canis Majoris” project announced early this month alongside other Witcher games.

Here’s part of the announcement straight from CDPR:

“The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD PROJEKT RED. “Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”

The remake is being developed by Polish studio Fool’s Theory, where veteran Witcher series staff are involved. No platforms or release window has been given yet, as CDPR asks for patience from fans as it “will be a while” until they start talking about the project in detail.

Released back in 2007, The Witcher kickstarted the franchise and established CDPR as a heavyweight studio back then. While more news around it won’t be out for quite some time, color us excited! Chances are, this will grace the current-gen platforms and PC, and we can’t wait to hear more.
