Armored Core 6 Won’t Feature Co-Op in Campaign, Will Be a Soft Reboot for Story

Armored Core 6 Multiplayer

Armored Core 6 will be somewhat different from its predecessors. An interview with FromSoft president Hidetaka Miyazaki and Sekiro designer Masaru Yamamura confirmed that, among other things, Armored Core 6 co-op won’t be the main feature, at least throughout the story.

The IGN interview covered a lot of things regarding Armored Core as well as its ties to previous FromSoft titles such as Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Among them, Masaru Yamamura was asked if the game would feature multiplayer or co-op elements, to which he responded that, in the story, it wouldn’t be available. Here’s the full statement translated via DeepL:

We are thinking mainly of a competitive multiplayer mode. As in past titles in the series, players will be able to show off their own aircraft and have fun competing against each other.

On the other hand, in the story mode, which is the main part of the game, we have chosen not to include cooperative play because we want to emphasize the dynamic action, the free-running of your aircraft, and the active changes you can make during missions. We are focusing on the intense experience that can only be realized in single-player mode.

Speaking of the game’s story, Yamamura also confirmed that Armored Core 6 will be a sort of reboot for the series lore-wise. “The story is completely new. There is no direct connection to past “ARMORED CORE” games, but a new, independent story and setting,” he states.

And for those who are used to parrying in previous FromSoft games, it looks like that won’t be a feature in Armored Core 6. Yamamura clarified, “We have not implemented it. There is a guarding mechanism similar to that, but the main thing is just to keep attacking, and the right attack at the right time will break the enemy’s stance.”

With FromSoft also confirming that the game won’t be a Soulsborne, Armored Core 6 is shaping up to be an interesting deviation from the company’s usual titles.

Armored Core 6 is slated for a 2023 release, and it’ll be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
