Marvel’s Wolverine Narrative Director “Yearning” Relationship Comment About Sabertooth and Wolverine Has Gamers Buzzing, Insomniac Clarifies Its Platonic
With Marvel’s Wolverine set to release next week, reviews of the game have surfaced already. While it might not be faring as well as Sony might have liked, the game is still getting a lot of attention.
There’s one review that seems to have caught the eyes of many, and it’s not even about the score, but rather, what sort of relationship Wolverine and Sabertooth have.
It’s gotten a bit out of hand that Insomniac had to comment about it just to clear things up.
Marvel’s Wolverine Devs Clarify No Homosexual Relationship Between Logan and Sabertooth
In The Washington Post’s review of Marvel’s Wolverine, Narrative Director Walt Williams talked a bit about Wolverine’s love-hate relationship with Sabertooth and commented, “Logan feels that yearning and he gets scared and pulls away. Sabretooth feels that yearning and it makes him hurt and want to lash out to exert that hurt outward,” Williams said. “Hate and love are so hand in hand … you hurt me so I’m going to hurt you, and we’re still going to be linked because now the pain is shared.”
This comment has caught the attention of gamers online, with some, understandably, connecting this as Wolverine having a homosexual relationship with Sabertooth in the game.
Over on X (formerly Twitter), Insomniac Games Director of Community and Marketing James Stevenson clarified that “It’s a brother / best friend thing.”
Hopefully, that should put things to rest. Insomniac Games wasn’t trying to change the characters’ history, nor were they trying to make the game “woke” or anything.
In related news, Marvel’s Wolverine is now the lowest-rated AAA single-player first-party PlayStation-developed game since Days Gone in 2019.
Marvel’s Wolverine will be released on September 15 exclusively on the PS5.
