Saints Row 1 and 2 Remakes Ruled Out by Volition, “No Plans” for It

Saints Row Remake

Volition, the development studio behind the popular Saints Row franchise, has confirmed that it currently has “no plans” to remake or remaster the first and second entries in the series. The announcement comes as the original Saints Row marks its 17th anniversary. The game, initially an Xbox 360 exclusive, gained significant popularity despite being often labeled as a GTA clone. The franchise has since spawned three sequels a spin-off titled “Gat out of Hell,” another offshoot called “Agents of Mayhem,” a remastered third installment, and a recently released reboot simply titled “Saints Row.”

Although the fans have been clamoring for remakes of the original titles, especially since the first game is not available on PC or PlayStation and the second suffers from a problematic PC port, Volition made their stance clear through the Saints Row official Twitter account. The original games are set in the city of Stilwater and are known for their rich storytelling and character development, laying the groundwork for the later, more outlandish entries in the series.

Despite its initial lukewarm reception, marked by a Metacritic score of 61 — we scored it 6 out of 10, but Volition has been committed to addressing player concerns through substantial updates with the most recent one released just last week.

If you want to play the latest Saints Row without shelling any extra dough, you’ll have that chance if you’re on PlayStation platforms, as it just got announced that it’s part of the PlayStation Plus September 2023 free games offering.
