Nightdive Studio Open to Doing HeXen and Heretic Revivals

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, says he’s “All In” for Activision Studios, wanting to revive old IPs, such as HeXen and Heretic. Though Nightdive, an independent studio that has garnered a reputation for its excellent remakes and remasters of classic games, has thrown its hat into the mix, expressing that it would be interested in working on the previously mentioned franchises.

Taking to X, Lead Engine Developer at Nightdive Studios and head developer of the Kex projects Samuel Villarreal reached out to Phil, saying that the studio has the experience and is more than up for the task of working on both HeXen and Heretic.

Nightdive does seem to be a perfect candidate to work on the two games. As noted, they have the experience as they have worked on several re-releases over the last year. Nightdive recently released a System Shock remake and is now gearing up to re-release Turok 3, which bolsters 4K resolution, 120FPS support, trophies, updated environment, character, weapon models, and much more this November.

If Hexon or Heretic were to get some sort of current-gen port, we’d love to see all the features that Nightdive has brought to their previous remasters. Of course, we’d be even more open to a remake and even a new entry or reboot to the series, though bringing back the original could serve as a perfect way to introduce players.

This all hinges on Xbox, though even if Nightdive doesn’t get the project, it does seem that, given all the teases, we will see HeXen at some point return
